Ok so we admit it were Disney World freaks! We can only afford one vacation and year, and Disney has been it for us for the last three years. (one of which was our honeymoon) Well this year the annual pass has allowed us to go twice.

However I actually haven’t shared my enjoyment with my friends, and some family members b/c all they do is make fun of us. (And one of those "friends" was the one who got me to love Disney) I wish i could say it was people who haven’t gone, but they have all been. They just don’t have the fever i guess. I admit its funny, the things they say, like "NO WE DONT WANT TO SEE YOU DAMN PIN COLLECTION AGAIN"... but Im at the point where im keeping my vacation a secret.

Alas i think I need new life long friends. Or at least the ability to come on here and vent. lol

Im sure there are many of you who feel the same way.

Yeah, but all the people I hear it from (friends/family) are all those that have never been. Either don't want to go, can't afford to go, or in some cases are "waiting" for their youngest to be "old enough" (no amount of explaining that there is plenty for a 4+ yr old child to do there- it's not like Six Flags!!!!) yet keep having more babies- so I don't count on them ever going. LOL

So... all of them HAVEN'T been. I haven't yet met someone who has been but doesn't understand the urge to go again. LOL

We haven't ONLY gone to Disney World for years though... we go other places too and do other things. But we go to Disney World by far more "often" than any other place. LOL

My friends and family laugh at me when I talk about Disney. There are a few that get it, but most don't. One friend inparticular made a statement about the fact that I stayed there for 10 days last year. She said "how can you stay there that long, dosen't it get boring."

Need I say more.

Some people just don't get it, and sometimes my wife is like, no more Disney. Then I tell her the other options and how much each vacation will cost and how much more you get for your money with Disney and then she caves in. I wish she was as passionate as me. I love this place sooo much. It just makes me happy thinking about it and when I'm there, I truly live in the moment.

I'm lucky in that my parents love Disney a lot, and all three members of my immediate sorority family (one in particular) are Disney lovers, so I do have people to talk about it with and enjoy collecting, trip planning, etc. with. But I too have those friends who just don't get it. So sad... they don't know what they're missing! :sad2:

I think all of us are in the same boat. But being DISers has brought out the serious WDW lover in me! We actually have cousins who go to WDW more often than we do - they bought into DVC at OKW when it first opened. BUT, would you believe they have never been all the way around World Showcase? They have never eaten in the resort restaurants. They have never heard of Illuminations cruises, or know how to grab a CRT breakfast PS!
And my DB-I-L lives in Florida. They go to WDW twice a year, but they only go for a long weekend and sometimes they never leave the resort!!! They have no idea what there is to do. I keep telling them about these boards, but they tell me they have no time. Soooo, I will continue to enjoy WDW and all the great things there are to do, and other than you guys, I will keep my excitement to myself!

I totally agree with the OP. My immediate family cannot understand why we do a Disney trip just about every year. They always say that there are other places to vacation, but they don't do anything that really excites me. They have all been to Disney with us so they know all about it, but from there standpoint it is just hot and more rides. Most of them get motion sick which eliminates any thrill rides and due to their work schedules they always go in April or Summer so they get the heat and heavy crowds. They will never love WDW they way we do. My dn does love it however and we have taken her with us and left her non disney parents home. lol. Oh well I hope that some people continue to not be WDW folks as that leaves more room in the parks for me. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm lucky - I have converted my Parents, my DB & DSIL and am now working on my DSS & his wife. Now, alot of my friends don't really get it, but I have made new friends who do, so it all balances out. Even my close friends who never got WDW (and have never been & would never go) have come to the point where they ask, with interest, about our trips. I think they are discovering there is more to it than they originally thought from what DH & I have told them of our experiences.

I find that people who say things like that either A) Have never been to WDW or B) When they did go, they didn't stay on property.

Staying on site makes a difference!

I get the same reaction from my family and friends. Many of them have been to WDW plenty of times. They just don't understand why that's the ONLY place my son and I have vacationed for the last 4 years.

I've finally broke down and decided to do a cruise (NOT DCL :rotfl: ) next Easter.

My sister's family went to WDW with my son and I during Easter 2004. My niece and nephew had a blast. However my sister and BIL just did not get it. Several times during the trip my BIL would stop and ask if I was really plannig to visit WDW again. :rotfl2:

They both enjoyed various parts of the trips, character interaction, parades, fireworks, but WDW will never be high on thier vacation list. As a matter of fact they have the been there done that attitude about Disney. (Oh, we stayed on site).

Since they had another child last month, I MIGHT be able to to talk them into another trip 5 years from now. :p :wizard:

My coworkers all think that I am some sort of nutty Disney addict.....which, I guess that I am. You should have seen the eyes roll the other day when I put the countdown scrolling screensaver on my computer the other day. Gabby and I have not had a real vacation together since 12/03 when were last at WDW. I need this vacation!!!!

I have learned not to let the non-pixie dusted get to me. It helps being a Dis'er. By now, I am sure that I bleed lime green. lol Maggie

My friends and family think it's great that DH and I love WDW but they can't understand why we go every year. This year I get to go three times so I lucked up (which will never happen again) and they think it's nuts.

Put it this way, I know a family that does Mexico every single year and I don't understand why because to me it's boring and they think WDW is too kiddy for them.

It's your choice and you do whatever makes you happy. Let them talk, after while they'll get used to it. We're all glad your Disney freaks like us here!!!!

WDW ROCKS!

I have the same issues with family. My inlaws live in Florida and don't understand why we visit Disney so often. We combine a trip that includes a short visit with them and a trip to Disney. They swear that they will never visit Disney - "too crowded and expensive for an amusement park". :confused3 I just laugh because I really don't want them to go to Disney with us anyway! ;)

On every visit they ask me how much we're paying for the room, tickets, etc... They privately ask my children "Wouldn't you rather go someplace else?" :confused3 My kids are Disney freaks and just say "NO!" (Now that I'm writing this down, it sounds as if they don't want us to visit them - this isn't the case. They honestly just feel that Disney is a big rip-off :rotfl: )

They also have stated that a few of their neighbors that have APs are crazy... :rotfl2: Oh the fun they are missing.

"To each his own..."

Oh, poo poo to them! Someone at work heard me saying we were going in August, and she said, "We went last year. I think I still have a guide around somewhere." And another coworker said, "OMG, she WROTE that book." Then rolled his eyes.

Jealous - they're all just jealous that they're not going!

My family visits every two or three years and I still get the question Why do you go. In my family though they don't ask because we only go every two or three years but my sister's family may go three or four times a year.

I would love to go more but threre are other things to see especially when you are a scouting family. (Philmont in 2006, Jambo 2005)

LOL I can totally relate. My co-workers think I am a little odd for A) Loving Disney as much as I do as an adult, B) Going again this year, even though last year was DH and DS first trip and C) Planning as much as I can.

They assume that I have a Disney themed house or that everything I do is Disney. We can only afford to do one vacation a year, and I want to take advantage of the fact that we live only 8 hours from the parks. My son has the best time there and it's a vacation that seems get us through the year. Some of us can see the magic when others refuse to acknowledge it. Some people are just afraid to let go and be kids themselves....not me. I will be :Pinkbounc to get on the rides soon and can't wait!!

What is the difference between going to Disney all the time and having a cottage on a lake. Some people like the excitement of Disney, others like the quiet of a cottage on a lake. My friends and family just roll their eyes when we tell them we are going to Disney again. I think they are just jealous. :rotfl2: We are on our 6th trip within 2 1/2 years and are taking our second trip this year, without children  , in September. My DBIL who is just as much a Disney freak as us has a wife who thinks there is other vacations besides Disney...is she on drugs :rotfl2: But to each his own. Me, I choose Disney.

I thought it was bad explaining our annual family trips to everyone, but try explaining why you are going alone with your husband for your 15th anniversary :earseek: I am to the point where I just don't tell people where we are going, it's easier than explaining that there is so much that DH and I want to do when we go that we can't do when we have the kids along, like tours and staying for the evening EMH at the MK, etc. Now most of our family has never been to WDW, so I just chalk them up to being ignorant. Most of the people who we know who HAVE been, totally get why we go back.
What drives me nuts almost more than that, are the people we know who do go, and harp on me for staying at a deluxe resort. "Don't you know the value resorts are basically the same thing, how can you waste that kind of money" etc. :rotfl2:

99% of the time, when someone makes a comment about our Disney trip,I ask them what they did on their vacation.Their reply is 'OH ,we rent at the shore.Same house, same beach ,same stories every year. They complain that next year they would like to try something different. But usually, same house, same beach. So I ask 'What's the difference between our trip and yours except thet we have more FUN".

I don't have it as bad, thank goodness. My friends I met on a Florida Marlins message board all consider me the Disney expert of the group. One has even came up to me and asked me for advice on what do to on his trip in July. Just yesterday, I posted a thread about Disney & Pixar talking again and one guy said, "I hate Disney bla bla bla.... they're not making any more good movies..... bla bla bla". I am like, "Ok, yea, some of the movies have been weak lately but don't forget PoTC, they have Chicken Little & Valiant coming out, & especially don't forget Narnia." Whatever.

One thing that really got to me was one time at work, we were having lunch and we were talking about if/when I get married to my bf, where are we going to go on our honeymoon. I said that my dream is to go to DL. I have never been there and I want to go, even if it's just once, just so I can experience it and see the original. One lady was like, "Oh don't even go there. It's not much and it's awful." I was like "Nooo!! It's my dream to go!" Anyways, of course I didn't pay any attention to her. My bf knows what I want to do for our honeymoon if we get married and he doesn't mind one bit.

My dh started a new job last month. The people in the office are mostly Disney freaks who like to plan trips to coincide with their Orlando trade shows! Dh is in heaven! :) Some of the ladies (in another dept.) went to LA for a conference last week and they hit DL. They brought back souvenir candy for everyone, LOL! :rotfl:
