I'm so sad!1 DU agent says can't get AAA rate for AKL.

She stated that AKL only gives AAA rates on SAvanna views. Not standard rooms. I had just made up my mind to split our 10 night stay. I really wanted to go to this resort. Just knew my husband would love it! We're going to Disney from 1/28-2/7. We would have stayed at AKl for 2/2-2/7. All the advice I see on these boards says not to pay rack rates. The same with mousesavers. What do you do? Do you just go ahead and book the room and hope that some discount will come out? Please tell me what to do!!

Standard views are of the parking lot. Although there are lots of viewing areas, I wouldn't want to have my balcony opening onto that side, you can hear the traffic from the interstate and at noght you can see the lights from the various stores, etc. If you can, go ahead and book a pool view. That way you can use the public over looks for the animals and still have a nice view from your room.

I know it is all personal preferance, but I can't imagine staying at AKL and not having a Savannah View. I want to get the most from my experience, and honestly I can barely pry the kids off the balcony from wake up to sleep!

I believe your agent is incorrect. Perhaps they are sold out of rooms for AAA for your dates? I have a AAA rate booked on a standard room at AKL. I got quotes from more than one Agent, and Disney directly and was never told that I couldn't get a AAA rate on a standard room.
If that's what you're really wanting, I'd check with another agent before giving up. Although it might be a good excuse to upgrade to Savannah view!

I booked a standard room with AAA discount in July. I just needed to add 1 night, before moving to another resort, and had been dying to try AKL. There are just so many rooms in each category (standard, waterview, ect...) that Disney sets aside for AAA rates. Once they are booked, that's it.

BTW- We never asked, but ended up being upgraded to a savannah view room. It was lovely!

Okay , sorry she (my TA) clarified it forme. It's not that AKL does not have AAA rates for standard rooms, its that they don't have them for my dates, She is going to keep checking for me though. Although we would love to have a savanna view, its really pushing our budget just to get a standard room. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a free upgrade as we are going in a historically slow month. However I figure we can still enjoy the animals from the view points o the poor folks/public like us!!

Did you go to the AAA website? I just did and punched in your dates and the rate of $174.25 came up for Standard view. I think rack rate is $199.00.

The upgrades are all about Disney Magic! AKL was booked solid when I was there...though the fact that we were only staying one night probably helped!

So glad you cleared this up. My DSIL was planning on staying at AKL in a standard view room hoping for a AAA discount. We had this discount when we stayed standard last year so I'm glad they haven't changed that. We didn't mind our standard view at all. The Lodge sits back too far from the road to hear highway noise and you cannot see lights from the road or traffic unless you are on the very top floor. Even then it's not much with all of the trees in between. I would stay standard before staying somewhere else. This resort is not to be missed. It's gorgeous. There's plenty of places to see animals and they are pretty good at giving complimentary upgrades too. Good luck.

To the OP - good luck! I hope a standard room comes your way on AAA!

We are booked POR Best Rate for a stay right after Thanksgiving. I have been there once before, but DGS (age 6) has not, so I'm looking forward to staying there again. Still, DGS is an animal lover and I became intrigued by idea of staying at AKL. By the time I got my AP pass (July), all the standard rooms were gone at AKL, so we are happily keeping our POR ressie. Still with a glimmer of hope though, I keep checking the AP site to see if any standard rooms have opened up at AKL. No luck.

I doubt anyone could know the answer to this question, since the BR program is still so new, but for the OP and I, I wonder what the chances are of any standard rooms opening up before our 60 days run out. I suppose the only way that would happen is if another BR user cancels their ressie for our dates. And even then, would the room just go into rack rate, I wonder.

With my time running out (the 60 days) it looks like AKL will have to be a 2006 dream. That's ok too. Lazy Man River here we come.

Someone must have sent some PIXIE DUST my way!!! My DU travel agent just got me the AAA rate at AKL for 2/2-2/7. That's 5 nights of paradise coming my way! She got it for the rate of 194.01 including tax per night. That might not be as great as the best rate program that you AP holders have, but for us it's simply awesome!!

Whoever sent the pixie dust last time, can you send me some more for an upgrade? If you are too busy helping others, thats okay too, 'cause you made me BIG wish come true!!
