we decided not to counter on the house we are buying. We made an offer and they countered. DH wanted to counter again, but the monthly difference in payments would have been miniscule so I vetoed his desire for a counter offer.
Well, late yesterday afternoon, the sellers got another bid that was higher than the one we settled at. But, since they had verbally agreed to our contract, they told the other bidder, "No." They hadn't signed our contract and were under no obligation to do so, but felt we were "fair people" and appreciated our pleasantness in the transaction thus far.
I love being right.
