we decided not to counter on the house we are buying. We made an offer and they countered. DH wanted to counter again, but the monthly difference in payments would have been miniscule so I vetoed his desire for a counter offer.

Well, late yesterday afternoon, the sellers got another bid that was higher than the one we settled at. But, since they had verbally agreed to our contract, they told the other bidder, "No." They hadn't signed our contract and were under no obligation to do so, but felt we were "fair people" and appreciated our pleasantness in the transaction thus far.

I love being right. :teeth:

That is great. We close on 10/15 and our house 2 offers came right after ours. One was for a cash offer and the other much higher than the asking price. I am glad we decided to bid what they were asking. Cant wait to own my own toilet!!!!

Congratulations. Its awesome when things work out like that... makes you feel like the house was meant just for you. :)

Congrats again on your new house! A woman's intution is seldom wrong! ;)

You have some great sellers too! Not everyone would walk away from more money!

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the sellers. We've run into some pretty strange people on this house hunt. These people were honorable. Maybe they're DISers? :D :D

I do feel like this house was meant just for us...We saw it three/four weeks ago and fell in love with it. After much soul-searching, we decided it was too much house for us (price-wise). So, we bid on another house. However, since we hadn't sold our house yet, we didn't get that house.

Then, we bid on another house early last week. The sellers there were being asinine, but eventually accepted our bid. During that "eventually" phase, we found out that the house we are buying was reduced in price by more than $15,000, putting it pretty close to our price range. So we withdrew the bid with the asinine sellers and put a bid on the "house of our dreams."

If we had bid on the house three/four weeks ago, we probably wouldn't have gotten because of the contingency for selling our house and we would have bid 3 - 4 thousand more than the price we ended up with.

I don't know what to call the journey that led us to this house, but it's something...

I'm soooo glad you did not let $20.00 a month block your Dream House!

Enjoy
