the other day I emailed Juliana about surprising DF with a Seattle Seahawks cake after or reception dinner...she replied saying no problem and asked specifically what I wanted. I told her and then let her in on the second part of my surprise...

DF is a DIE HARD Seattle Seahawks fan. Joe has always wanted to go to a game but flying to Seattle has been out of the question. Recently, we moved to SC. 2 hours to the north of us are the Carolina Panthers and 2 hours to the South are the Atlanta Falcons...we knew Seattle would be playing these teams in the upcoming season but much to our surprise, we discovered that they would both be away games...meaning Seattle is coming here twice this season!!!! DF had his heart set on going to the Seattle/Atlanta game on Dec 30th. Unfortunately that's only a few days after we get back from our Honeymoon. I told him that there was no way we could afford the tickets and we'd have to try and catch a game next season. He was dissapointed but he didn't argue. Well...I just got a confirmation email stating that we will be receiving 2 tickets on 35 yard line, row 5 of the first section!!!!!!!!! That's right...I went behind his back and ordered the tickets. They are great seats and I'm so excited! I plan to surprise him right after the cake (though I'm not entirely sure how yet) and I hope he takes his Best Man who is also a die hard fan. They will be so surprised! They were expensive as all he$$ but he has done so much for me and there is no way I could thank him enough. I can't wait to give him the tickets...I love my man!!!

that's so great Diane! he'll be so thrilled!!

What a great surprise! I can't wait to hear about his reaction!! :)

I talked to Juliana last night and she told me what she and the bakery came up with. The cake will be a quarter sheet, choc w/amaretto mousse. The bakery asked if I could scan the tickets and send it to them...that's right...they are putting the tickets on the cake!! We'll not the real tickets but you know...exact copies of them on a Seahawks football field. I can't wait to see Joe's face when he realizes that the tickets on the cake are for the same game he wants to go to so badly...haha! Now...I just have to think of a cool way to present the real tickets after that. I'd love to get the CMs involved somehow and make it really grand...any ideas?

Question- will scanning the tickets ruin them? I'm thinking all of the light shining on them and then turning gray which would mean that they would be unusable. I know that my roommate copied old concert tickets (still don't know why:confused3 , maybe to save them?) and later they turned gray. I would just hate for your tickets to be ruined before he could even see the game. Otherwise it sounds like a great suprise.

Maybe instead of scanning the tickets you could take a really good digital picture using the macro setting on your camera?

It's not super common knowledge, I don't think, but most events can produce a duplicate ticket if your tickets get lost, or ruined in the wash, or eaten by a dog...

I don't think scanning them will ruin them, but if anything does happen (tickets are stolen by gnomes), if you have your receipt and/or the credit card you used to make the purchase, you're golden. This is why buying from scalpers is less than ideal... No coverage in an emergency.

If you're really worried about it, just cover the bar code with a post it note. If they're the type of tickets that have bar codes, rather than the "tear off the stub" kind...

Aw that's a lovely surprise, he'll be so pleased.

I did something similar for my DH by contacting his favourite football team, they sent us a wedding congratulations certificate and signed photo.

Oh! And you have to incorporate "having your cake and eating it too" in the presentation of the tickets, somehow!

as the copies of the tickets will be edible fondant, just pull one off of the cake and tell him "oh look, you can even eat the tickets". Then pull the real ones out and say " and isn't it amazing that those tickets look just like these"

Cute idea! Or you could pull off the fondant ticket and say "see if they'll let you into the game with this", then wait a second and say "better yet... try these", then give him the real deal...

Great ideas!!! I am so excited about this. I can't even tell you the wonderful things DF has done for me. Surprising him is virtually impossible...this is going to be one amazing moment!! Thank you all for your input and keep your fingers crossed that it goes off without a hitch (and without ruining the tickets, lol) :goodvibes
