I'm so dissapointed!

Today I went to an assembly at my kids' school. The theme this year is "No Put Downs", and I've been volunteering/teaching lessons each month.

They had a ventriloquist at the assembly who was supposed to reinforce what was learned in a fun way. She talked about how we're all different and that is okay. That it isn't okay to make fun of someone...

Well, aparantly it IS okay to tell fat jokes. One of her characters is a Genie in a bottle who can't come out because he's gained too much weight. He talks about going on a diet and going to "Genie Craig". Now, in any other context I would have been amused by this, but considering the place and the audience I thought it was very innapropriate.

Thanks for listening to my vent. I'm not sure if I'm going to say anything to the school or PTO.

Not the end of the world, certainly, but I do I think I'd be a little upset at that, too. Can you speak with the person or committee who booked the program? They probably weren't aware of every word the performer would be saying but they can give some feedback to the artist about the inappropriateness of the content given the context of the show. Maybe that'll prevent this from happening in front of another group in the future.

Hmm, I'd probably feel the same way considering the theme. I agree, not a big deal under normal circumstances, but inappropriate for this assembly.

I most likely won't say anything to anyone unless it comes up in conversation. I don't think this is a presentation that this performer gives regularly, but rather something she put together for our school. I was just venting and thought that, considering the context, it was innapropriate. Thanks for listening!

Ugh... I'm sure you're not the only one who thought this. I'm sure someone will bring it up if you don't.
