I'm So Disappointed

I ordered 3 12 x 12 scrapbook kits from 2R's (transportation; icons; and one featuring the Magic Kingdom). Just got them, and I feel like it was a total waste of way-too-much money. My big problem with the kits as a whole was the drab, IMHO almost ugly paper. I can't imagine using it or what kinds of pictures I would put on it. The "sticker sheets" consist of about 10 strips (about 8" wide) with such things as "Walt Disney World" written on them. There are character die cuts, but the design work isn't good, and they all have a border around them in off-colors that would make them hard to work with. Some of the individual paper sheets consist of a picture of the castle, the Sorcerer's Hat, etc. I have never been able to figure out how to position pictures on a piece of paper like this without burying the pictures or completely covering up the paper sheet. The only thing I think I would enjoy using is a set of WS flags imposed on a Mickey-head shape. They need to get the imagineers working on scrapbook supplies to create some colorful, well-designed materials in the quality tradition of Disney.

I agree that I was also a bit disappointed when I opened up my kits and found the sheets of paper...I have the Transportation one and I cannot use most of them on my pages...the colors are too funky and I do not like the designs on them at all...However, I was able to use the Monorail and Bus diecuts...The border stickers, I doubt I will ever use...

I definitely agree that they need a wider variety of Scrapbook supplies for Disney...Seems they mostly sell stickers and pencils in the 2R's store...

I hope to find something for our Cruise in December...I would really like to find a Cruise Kit on board, but I know that is very doubtful! ;)

I'm so glad to read your honest opinion of these kits. I've had them on my wish list, intending to call and order them. For once, though, I'm glad I procrastinated. I'd have been disappointed, too, to spend so much and get so little.

I'm continually amazed that a company that's soooo good with visuals has such a hard time with scrapbooking supplies, postcards, and pictoral calendars. You would think they'd have the talent to do better.

I partially agree -
I have used the stuff from the kits though not all together - just as accents, frames, etc.
I love the stuff from Creative Memories but wish there was more!

I agree 100%! I was at 2R's last week just ready to spend, spend, spend. I bought nothing, and walked out and told my DH, "how can a company as big as Disney come up with these things?" Oh well, saved myself some money.

I was looking at the book I did for our last cruise (bought on board 2000) last night and noticed it says "under license from the Walt Disney Co." on the back. I agree let's get some of those creative imagineers on this task.

Deb...you bought a Scrapbook Cruise book onboard?? Now you have me all excited because I was thinking I wouldn't find anything related to the Cruise for Scrapbooking...This is wonderful news! What store did you find it in??

Thanks!

I bought it onboard ship. Remember that was in 2000 so I'm not sure what is available now. Although I seem to remember seeing a thread on the cruise board over the summer (it pointed me to this forum actually) about something being available. You might try a post there.

What I bought was the deep blue being used that year with the 2000 on the front in a rope sort of motif and Mickey, Donald & Goofy on the front. It is the type where you put the pages in sleeves that go over the 3 ring binder sort of set up. Came with an assortment of white and colored stock for the pages.

I usually prefer the post bound (sorry I'm not a strap hinger - those metal edges bother me when I do layouts) but I loved the book so I worked with the rings.

If you do find something like this onboard keep in mind that it is probably European produced and the 12 x 12 isn't a perfect 12 x 12 - I have one page in sideways because I didn't realize that until it was done!

Also my LSS has products by Klever Kuts that are a die cut of the logo.

Thanks so much for the information, Deb!! I think I will bring a piece of cardstock, just in case, to see if they will fit ;) Thanks again, I can't wait to go now...only 10 more days!!! :)

They do come with cardstock in both white and colors that fit. The ricky part is that one direction is just a fraction smaller than the other.

Have a great cruise and let us know what is onboard when you get back! We go in June.

I will definitely let you know...I will even take pictures and post them here when I get home!! How exciting, I can't wait to leave...Only 9 more days to go!! :)

I thought the same thing about the theme packs, the colors were washed out and who can use that kind of paper!

Pammy Jo-I went into 2R's as well fully intending to get my fill of supplies and left with absolutely nothing!! I think DH was surprised! IMHO the stuff is not worth the money they charge-they need to come up with something better.

I plan on using mostly solid backgrounds and bought several postcards that I will incorporate-they look great when you have a hard time to get a good pic of something!

Watch the pages in the scrapbook!
I did 3 pages before I went to put them in the book and realized that I had done them all the wrong way - thank got everthing on the edge was repositionable so I was able to crop the end on the page off and make them fit!

the cruise album I've seen was very similiar to the albums they had in the parks last year, the 'Ears to you' one, and '4 parks one world' - they have a shiny cover, a 3 ring binder, and page protectors that are a very strange size (They are not a European size either, just strange).

I used one for my first disney vacation but last year I decided not to bother, it was just such a hassle trimming the paper ,and I forgot to turn the page the right way quite a few times.
