I just had to pass along the good news to everyone...I'M SINGING AGAIN!!! :teeth:

Now for the story, I graduated from college a year ago with a degree in Voice Performance with an Opera Emphasis. Well, by the end of my senior year I basically didn't care anymore and gave up singing. For the last year I've been doing church gigs here and there and really not giving it much thought... until about 2 months ago. Back in June I heard from a friend who told me all that she had been doing since graduation (which was a lot). One of the things she'll be doing this fall will be performing in the Metropolitan opera's young artist program, a HUGE deal. This is like the big leagues for opera's young artists area. Well, that got to me like I never thought. So, I started singing again and eventually switched voice teachers and the progress was amazing. I haven't been singing like this in a long time. The feeling I get when I sing is... well, a feeling I've forgotten. I love the feeling of the music flowing through my body and out of my mouth....it's one of the reasons I got into performing. Up until now I've not really auditioned for anything outside of school (never really thought I was ready). Well, my new voice teacher is taking a proactive approach to my career. He wants me to polish my voice and all my music and start singing for agents next year. I'm beginning to feel like my career in opera is really going to happen. And if anything, his wife has made her debut at Covent Gargen in London just this year so I might have a performing professional to help me on my career (by writing letter of recomendations and hopefully introducing me to people). Well, keep you fingers crossed for me. I feel energized all over again and I really want this to happen. Hey New England Diser's, if I give a recital would any of you be interested in attending? I'd be forever greatful?! :worship:

That's wonderful! I wish I was in the NE, I'd love to hear you sing! I sing in choral groups for fun and really miss it when I'm not involved in one.

I'm SO EXCITED for you! We have this joy in common. I didn't major in music, but I did more than many music majors in college. I did everything.....chamber singers, choirs, musicals, operas, recitals. After I graduated, I found nothing in the community that was up to my standards. So I wasn't singing for 6 years. Talk about a hole in my soul. Last year, my old voice teacher from school tracked me down and asked me to sing with a local Symphony, so I did. It was like breathing again. I never realized how much I missed it. I met other singers in Atlanta and got plugged into the vocal community here. Since then, I've performed at 6 concerts with 4 different groups. It's like an addiction, I can't say no.....:teeth:

So I completely understand your joy. And the Met? WOO HOO! That is VERY huge! Your new voice teacher sounds awesome! I would love to get back into someone's studio around here, but I have transportation and financial issues right now. Hopefully in the future....:D

This year, my choir is celebrating its 50th year in the community. This coming year we're doing Haydn's St. Nicholas Mass and Poulenc's Gloria. We're also doing some Latin motets by Byrd, Palestrina, and Bruckner, a set of North Country Folksongs arranged by contemporary British composer Philip Wilby, a Christiansen hymn, and a spiritual. Rehearsals start on the 7th and I can't wait!

What are some of the songs you're preparing? Please share your progress. I am definitely interested and ready to cheer you on.....:D

I forgot to ask what part you sing....:D I'm a Soprano.

That is great, BT, I can hear you happiness. Hope thigs go well for you with this new direction. Great!!!!

Hey Olena, I sing tenor. I was just at my old school yesterday using the practice rooms and man, what sounds were comming out of my voice. I couldn't believe it. New life has been breathed into me. Right now I just picked up some old arias (solo songs from operas) to sing. I'm singing and aria from my favorite opera of all time Rodolfo's aria from La Boheme (Puccini) 'Che gelida manina'. I'm also singing Cavaradossi's area from Tosca 'E lucevan le stelle'. I've also sung, and a song from Schubert's 'Am Feierabend' from his Die Schone Mullerin cycle (a beautiful song cycle if you ever get a chance to hear it)
