I'm seeing Barry Manilow tomorrow night

We've seen Barry in concert 3 times over the years, the most recent in 2008 in Vegas. He puts on an awesome show! You'll love it!:)

I haven't been to a Manilow concert in years. I loved it when he ran through a medley of his commercial jingles - such hidden talent! Everyone sang along, too.

He's so entertaining - enjoy your evening!

I've only been to one Manilow concert - my Mother dragged me along and this was my favorite too! I was shocked that I actually enjoyed the show! :rotfl:

Love me some Manilow. He just keeps getting better with age. We saw him in concert about 28 years ago (yeah, this was the day of spangly, flamboyent suits and shag hairstyles--he looke great!) and he reallly put on quite a show. Hope you have a wonderful time!

I am so jealous. I wanted to go but have some things come up and didn't get tickets. The other morning I was driving to meet some up for a class. I was at a light and the radio offered 2 tickets. I messed up the number and they never repeated it.

I have seen him in concert several times and he puts on a great show. Enjoy.

To the OP, have a blast, we saw him in Atlantic City a few years back and it was fun (not as intimate as his Vegas shows but still fun)
Is this your first Barry show?

Farley

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:  Sorry, don't mean to laugh...but...OP and I have been friends for almost 30 years...we met while standing on line for tickets! Obviously, how would you know - but it struck me as funny.

Most people who know me on the DIS, know I loves me some Barry. :lovestruc

Can't wait to see it. :woohoo:

And yes, I'm old, too...not quite 50, but close enough to see it over the horizon. ;)

Hi to Janice! :wave2:

As a proud card-carrying member of The Barry Manilow Official Fan Club - I say "have a great time"! :cool1:

I'm within driving distance but there was no room in the budget for the Atlantic City show. :guilty:

I will be seeing him in Vegas in October - saw him at The LV Hilton a few times, but haven't seen his Paris Las Vegas show yet.

(And I'm not THAT old - only 40!)

Another jealous Fanilow here..he's been my favorite since I saw him in concert when he first started..it was at the Civic Center in Springfield MA..early 70's..he had been on a PBS thing called Soundstage..the first time I ever saw him..they announced the concert and I jumped at tickets..his most famous thing then was the 'commercial jingles'..and Mandy and Could It Be Magic..his backups were Lady Flash..or was it Flashy Ladies?..lol...Debra Byrd, who is a coach on Idol was in it then, anyhow..the arena was practically empty..and we all got to move our seats to right in front of the stage..it was as if he was singing right to all of us..I have been lucky enough to see him several times since then..and managed to snag front row seats every time..wish I could see his Vegas show...maybe someday
Have a great time..yell and whistle really loud for all of us who can't be there!

Add me to the Fanilow list!! LOVE Barry, and he is an absolutely fabulous performer. He puts on a show like nobody else! My infatuation with Barry has a WDW connection - it was the mid or late 70's & we drove from PA to WDW with my grandparents - and "Can't Smile Without You" was the number one song at the time & on the radio non-stop. I became totally obsessed with the song & signed up for piano lessons the week we got home. I was 7 or 8, and took lessons for almost 10 years. I just wanted to play like Barry! My bridesmaids even walked down the aisle to "Could it Be Magic."

I've also seen hime several times. Isn't he singing with the New York Pops tonight? I saw it advertised and thought it would be great. But like someone else said, it's not in the budget.

Yes, the New York Pops will be there. Can't wait to hear his songs with a full orchestra...goose bumps

LOL just read the title and it made me smile.

I'm really not a fan, but DID attend a Manilow concert many many years ago
(we're talking the late 70's) at a local college with a group of friends. He was so young then, and even did a lot of his jingles that he was well-known for at the time.

Enjoy!

I'm actually sitting here listening to his The Essential CD. I only like 4-5 songs out of the 2 discs. okay, I'll be honest, I only bought the stupid thing because I have been in love with one of his songs since I was like 4 or 5 years old!! And to this day it is still my favorite Manillow song. :goodvibes
Even Now :love::love::love::love:

Hope the evening went great for you and that you have no voice left!!

Hi to Janice! :wave2:

CookieGVB............Were you on some message boards that use to talk Manilow and diss the BMIFC website message boards 10 years ago? For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the boards. Your name is familiar. I went to some concerts with Barbara from Marlboro TN.

Here's my Manilow story......his manager kicked me out of the fan club :rotfl:
I had to call him and grovel as Barry finally came my way to Birmingham and I wanted good seats (I did get good seats, center up front).

Anyway, back in the dark ages I wrote music and belonged to BMI, one of the royalty payors. I was given Barry's address of his music company, Townsway Music and sent some lyrics in. I got a letter to submit additional info. (things happened...like pregnancy so things got dropped) A few years later I went to a lecture in Los Angeles where Barry's friend, Eric Borenstein was giving a lecture. Barry showed up and had a nice talk, he was very friendly. Gary offered me a job setting up and selling the merchandise at the concerts. Had 3 kids, dropped the music. I love my kids but I always wonder how my life would have gone.

...........Even now, when I have come so far, I wonder where you are..............

Major Manilow fan, in my early 50's and proud of it.

Have fun!

Somewhere around here I have a photo of me, Barry and an ex-BF backstage after a show (late 80's, in NYC). Boy, up close that man used to wear a lot of blue eyeshadow. :lmao: The show was great, though!

Heehee, I guess it wouldn't be her first show then :) I am always jealous of the older Barry crowd because they got to see him back in his heyday and I missed out on that :(

How wonderful that you are still friends with someone you met while waiting in line for tickets!

To the OP I hope you had a blast at the show!!

I don't want to highjack your thread OP but I have to post my pictures from Platinum, most people could care less and actually look disgusted when I try to show them these pics so I'll share them here! I don't have ANY friends that like Barry, well except my boyfriend...

I look like a ghost :)

I have no idea what i said to him, I'm sure I sounded like a complete moron!

Love the photos - the one with your bf is too cute! He's a keeper, if he's willing to risk humiliation to carry the Barry bag in public.

You and Barry both look pretty relaxed in the pictures. I've seen some shots where the person looks like a deer in headlights, poor thing...

The show last night was great, of course. So much fun, and the orchestra sounded absolutely gorgeous. Now that the bug has bitten again, I'm looking to go out to Vegas. Ah, ain't obsessions grand? :)

Major Manilow fan, in my early 50's and proud of it.

I have posted on the alt.fan newsgroup - for the most part, I read for amusement these days. Can't be bothered to get into slugging match with other people who are supposed to be fans, but don't have too many good things to say. I don't think he's perfect, but not sure I'd be publicly lambasting whatever he does...now to my friends, that's a different story! ;)

I do remember your screen name - not sure whether that's a good thing or not, with the rep of that place. :rotfl:
