my husband just started a new job about 3 months ago and has gone from working physical work to working at a desk job.* he graduated and became and auditor* We struggled for a VERY long time for him to get through school and graduate. And he has never really had *time* on his hands before. ( we have been together 14 years and have a 6 year old dd)

Now that he is done with school, he has a great job and more time. I think he feels LOST. Like there is nothing else to do. The past few weeks he has been complaining about not being active enough at work and like his mind need's more stimulation than JUST work. :confused3 .

I am having a hard time understanding..since well..I LIKE sitting and working, and then coming home and sitting and reading or sitting and watching TV. I don't mind not being super active all the time.

He has alot of things in the works..like going to the gym, finishing his book and getting better with his spanish. But he just can't seem to get motivated. Even though, he says he REALLY wants to do it and he talks about it a lot.

We are the best of friends and I want to help him. But I have having a hard time on this one. It's like one of those things that has to come from with in. But at the same time..I am left feeling like...

Any advice?

Find some activity you can do with the whole family, then you'll all be motivated to do something and when your not in the mood, DH can push you to do it, your child can push you to do it, etc.

Our family does letterboxing together. It is kind of like a scavenger hunt. The only supplies you need are an ink stamper, a ink pad, a pen or pencil and a notebook. You pick out a ink stamp that is representative of you/your family/your child whatever (we chose a patriots/football themed stamp). You find hidden letterboxes all over the country even the world and you stamp you notebook with the stamp found in the box and you stamp the notebook in the box with your personal stamp. You date their notebook and can add a little note as well. There is no reward other than the excitement of actually finding the boxes and some are quite difficult. We chose this because we love to take hikes/walks in the woods and it made us interact more between us (DH&I) and our children. It made our children (6&7) learn to follow steps/directions, count, learn e/w/s/n, look for clues and other skills that you use in everyday life. Visit http://letterboxing.org for more details.

I'm not saying this is for you & your family but find something that you enjoy doing together on a daily or weekly basis. That way when 1 person isn't "in the mood" then the others can give them the push that they need to go and do something.

Thank you, I like that idea. We need something that is continuous.
We do the family game thing every night. but that really dosen't get us up and moving. i am going to check out this letterboxing.
Thanks for the tip.
I like the direction you sent this in. :goodvibes

Is there an activity for father and daughter to do together? Does your daughter play soccer? If so, is there a need for more coaches?

I don't mean to encourage coach potato-ism, but are there any upcoming Fall TV shows that he's looking forward to?

Congratulations to your husband on his new job.

PM me if you have any questions...we've been doing it for about a year now and not just the kids are having fun with it :goodvibes DH & I know this area pretty well as we both were born & raised here and it's amazing how many places letterboxing has taken us that we didn't realize were there in the 1st place ~ little off the path nature sanctuaries and even boxes placed in parks we frequent all the time! I will say the 1st box we went searching for we did not find and it was a little bit of a downer but since then we've found virtually every one! The other thing is you do not have to join or track wear you have been on that website, it just tells you the locations of boxes. We finally joined that website after searching for 6 months and have our own family name/screen name. And if you really get into it you can hide your own box!

I can relate to your husband. I went to college right out of high school, then grad school after that. I graduated and got a really good job. It was better money wise and also because the job I had in college and grad school was a surgical tech on a busy labor and delivery unit. Honestly, sometimes I would go to work and not sit down for 12-14 hours. Now I sit @ a computer all day. It is a HUGE adjustment being out of school and having that big of a change in what you do all day. I have been here for a year and a half and I am still adjusting. Give him time. I didn't understand until I went through it myself but here is a need for and adjustment period.

hope this helps
