I'm sad because my Mommy is moving away.

My parents live 5 miles away (I'm an only child and have always lived nearby). They're selling their house (they'll know for sure if it's sold on Wednesday) and moving to their other house in West Virginia that they inherited from my grandmother. Because my father was born and raised there they won't have to pay any real estate taxes because of some homestead act. They're both retired and they can live so much more cheaply there.

But 5 1/2 hours is far away. I won't be able to go out to lunch with my Mom a couple times a week.

It looks like they'll be moving the middle of July.

6 years ago my parents sold their house and are now full time RVers. I love it for them but hate it for me. Mom & I were laways close. They spend 6 months in FL & 6 months here. Cell phones and Email help make it a 'smaller world' but I still miss her. It is weird but I feel like I don't know her anymore...*sigh*

I have happy childhood memories of going there to visit my grandmother, but I don't want to live there. It's a very tiny town (under 300 families) that used to be a coal-mining town. The mine has been shut down for quite a while now. There is only one road that goes in and out of town. The town is named Carolina and is down the road from Ida May. The owner of the coal mines named the towns after his daughters. Not much to do around there.

Besides, I want to live near WDW!

Thanks, Brenda. It feels even worse since Gene's Mom has died. We were very close and she was close with my Mom, too. Less than a year and a half and I'll have lost my two best buddies.

But at least we can go and visit my parents.

Sorry they'll be moving! But the drive from PA to WVA shouldn't be too bad. You can do it for long weekends! Once I drove from my grandmother's in PA to my sister's in VA. Not bad at all. But when you're used to being 5 miles away, it's a big change.

My Dad was raised in WV too. My grandfather was a coal miner & they lived in teeny tiny towns too. My Dad & 2 of his brothers are going back next month to see all of the places they lived growing up.

I would be upset too. It's really nice that you have such a close relationship with your parents. If you are used to driving down to Florida, then five and half hours won't seem very long. Sorry also to hear about your MIL. I'm very close to mine also and would miss her terribly if we didn't have her anymore.

Thanks, everyone. I know I shouldn't be complaining because at least they're still alive and we can visit, but it's going to be a big change.

Now I'll have no family left to keep me here - we might as well move to Florida.
