I'm really worried about my kitten and don't know what to do.

When we woke up this morning he was limping. Well we brought him downstairs and he went to sleep and wasn't moving much, so I called the Vet. He seems to think that maybe my baby (who before this was running 90 miles per hour and jumping, acting like a kitten) jumped to hard and jammed his front paws. He said that as long as he was eating then he wouldn't worry. Well that was this morning and as right now he has still slept just about all day long and won't walk. I did put his water and food by him and he did eat, and I carried him to his litter box earlier and he used it. I don't know I'm so worried! Part of me wants to call the vet back and see if he can see him and then John says that hes okay and wait and take him in the morning. What do yall think? Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to one of your kittens??

For your peace of mind, I would go ahead and call the vet again. But, from my experience (with the dogs) if they are eating, drinking and going potty it should be okay. But, I am not a vet so please don't take my word for it. Poor baby probably just needs some crate rest for a couple of days. Does he have a favorite treat? In our house it is the cheese test to see if any of the doggies aren't feeling good.

I sure hope your kitty is okay :) If you don't call the vet, I would take him tomorrow just as peace of mind.

Personally Beth, if he is eating and going potty then I would wait and just take him in tomorrow. I am sure he is probably just in pain and sleeping is the easiest thing for him to do. I hope he is back and running around soon :)

Beth,

Better to be safe than sorry. I work for a vet and we always tell people, "you know your pet best". If you feel uncomfortable at all about how he is acting, make an appt for tomorrow.

Please let us know how the little guy is doing.

The fact that he is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom are always good signs, but I'd still bring him in to be seen in the morning if he is still acting lethargic and not walking.

Hope he is okay!

Yes I am definatly taking him in first thing in the morning...I feel like an overprotective mommy again! He is my baby and I wish we had a pet E.R. because I would take him in now!!

How old is your kitten? And what's his name? Just curious.

Many years ago I had a (totally indoor) cat that I would occas. take outside so she could sniff around and eat grass, you know --cat stuff. I always had her in a kitty-harness and leash. One day, at my parents house, she freaked over something and bolted. She ran into a chain-link fence, then turned and bolted the other direction, and ran into the opposite corner of the same fence. I don't remember if I took her to the vet then, as she mostly seemed scared. But a few days later, she was having intermittent weakness in her legs, and almost acted like she was seeing "visions." The vet said she had suffered some mild trauma to her spine and a concussion. She was on anti-inflamatory meds. for a while. She made a full recovery and lived to be 15 yrs. old.

I hope your baby makes a full recovery.

Hi!

My baby is a little over 3 months old and his name is Isis (pronounced Ice-sis). He was born 12-30-02. Here is a picture of him,

The vet does seem to think its trama from maybe jumping off of something which he has done a lot of the past few days. He has been so hyper that its scary to me seeing him laying around. He (along with my other 5 babies) are all indoors as well and are just like my children!! I just sent my DH out to get dinner and I ordered some chicken strips just to see if he will eat them. I have a feeling its going to be a long night or me watching my baby.

He's gorgeous!!!

A neighbor recently got a Maine Coon kitten, and she's pretty hyper. Except that she's a torty, she looks just like Isis.

Best wishes!

Beth, do you have a crate you can use for him? If it is trauma, he'll be like any other kid and not want to take it easy until he's better. If you crate him, then he'll not be able to injure himself more before he's healed.

I'm sure there is nothing to worry about, but I'd call the vet tomorrow anyway. :)

I do have a crate but what worries me is that he isn't trying to move, he is just laying around sleeping all the time. Ugghh I really wish we had a animal E.R.

Poor little guy probably sprained his forepaws muscles.

My beagle did this when he was a puppy. He basically slept for two days and the vet suggested 1/2 tabl baby aspirin (not tylenol). for his pain.

Keep us posted.

herc.

Herc that definatly makes me feel better! I am going to take him in to the vet in the morning just to be on the safe side...Its something seeing them go from 90 miles an hour to dead still...but our bed is high and he could have hurt his paws jumping off.

We do have an animal er, and I've used it more than once.

I wish you did too so you wouldn't have to worry.

It would be nice to have a pet E.R. here....but then again I live in Mississippi:mad: and we have NOTHING here! The vet will meet you if its an emergency but he doesn't seem to think this is, and I'm sure he has seen his amount of kitties with this same thing so I'll trust him.

Do you really trust him, are you going to be able to sleep tonight?

*hugs* I agree, take him in in the morning, and keep an eye on him tonight, but I suspect he'll be just fine. Wouldn't surprise me that he just hurt his paws and is sleeping away the pain, as others have suggested.

Let us know how the visit goes tomorrow morning?

Probably not too well, honestly but I will keep a close eye on him and if ANYTHING happens he will meet me at 3a.m. if he has to. John has forbidden me to get any more animals..LOL! I'm a nervous wreck! I swear Lauri I get more upset over my animals than humans sometimes:)

Humans can talk to you. Our pets just have to trust us and we treasure the trust.
When they are hurting we hurt too. But like the vet, I think it's probably a sprained ankle or two and your kitty is doing what we all should do, stay off it.
