I've been hearing alot lately about the DVC and thinking about joining. Here are my questions so far;

1 How much will it cost me when I first sign up and how many points will I get at sign-up?

2 How much will each additional point cost?

:confused3

Varies. You decide how many points to buy and at which resort being offered. Price per point and annual dues vary per resort. We bought 270 points at BLT last year which can get us 3 weeks a year in a DVC or a cruise every 2. We paid about $22K with $1K annual dues. That should satisfy us for a while.

;) You can go to DVCNews.com and find pricing info. Go to the point charts at top of DVC forums to see the point list. Be sure to check out the resale companies,too-to save money

Review the points charts to see how many points you would need to stay for your typical vacation. From your screenname, I bet you like to attend Star Wars Weekends, which are in May/June.

We purchased via resale 170 point at Boardwalk, $13,600. Close to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

You are buying a real estate interest in a property associated with Disney. The price you pay depends on how many points you buy. Additional points are purchased with a minimum of 25 points.

You can buy DVC two ways. You can go through Disney direct or buy a contract via resale.

Through Disney, they do have a minimum It used to be 160 but was lowered in the late Spring down to 100 for most resorts. In some cases, people were allowed to buy in with just 50 points.

Whether that is still allowed or not, I do not know. If you buy resale, the number of points will be determined by the contract you choose.

The price varies by resort and where you buy. Disney is more expensive than resale but some of the newer resorts are not as easy to come by on the resale market and your options are limited.

What I would do is first try to figure out when you want to travel to Disney, in what type of room, and about how many points that is. Then research the different resort options so you can choose a home resort you are comfortable with.

While you can trade out to all the DVC resorts at the 7 month mark, you want to own a place that you would be okay staying if what you want at the other resorts are not available. Many members book their home resort at 11 months, just to secure a reservation for this very reason.

We own at BLT because that is where we want to stay. We have tried BWV, VWL, and BCV but BLT remains our favorite. We bought through Disney and paid more than we would have had we bought one of the less expensive resorts like SSR or OKW. However, we have no desire to stay at those resorts and felt it was worth spending more to know we will be at our top choice all the time.

Good luck!

:) DH and I purchased 210 points at AKV and with discounts in June 09 each point was $93. We purchased direct form Disney due to no one really financing second motgages last year....for 10 years with a 10.75% preferred interest rate. Which of course is high, but last year the only other interest rate we could find was 8% in our area, and DVC made it so easy, albeit more expensive. There is no penalty for paying the loan of early. There is no report on your credit history if you purchase direct. However there has been some talk about some folks having more trouble with financing through Disney this year. The standard rate is around 13%.

We put 10% of the total cost on our Disney Visa as required for our down payment, then financed the rest. Our monthly note is around $237 with our monthy MF around $80 month. For that cost last Nov we got 2 SV studios at AKV (cash worth about $7000) for 9 nights, and are repeating that this year. So we are already in $14000. DVC has allowed me as a nurse and DH as a fireman to own at a luxury resort, which we have been to each year since 2002.

Of course you can rent points or pay cash or finance a resale. I have been looking at resales for add-on points.

There are links up at the top of this page that will give you lots of info -- one resaler's offerings, point charts, etc.

If you're not familiar with timesharing in general, there's lots of help at http://tugbbs.com/forums/ (which also has a DVC section).
