EDITED TO ADD: before you think summer in disney of course, it's not everywhere that's warm and the a/c can keep up. I live here, they've changed the a/c so it's not as cold anywhere their isn't food involved and some food places are also warmer, not hot but warmer than in the past.

Yesterday was my first afternoon and evening in a park while it was stupid hot and humid.. phone said it was 94 out with 85% humidity and at the end of the night it was saying with heat index it felt like 114.. It really felt like 114...

What has me upset is what disney is doing with the air conditioning at the moment. Anyone that has been there in the last month or so will know that many places that used to be freezing is now warm to hot when you walk in. buses seem warmer, monorail seems warmer.. table service and restrooms seem to be the same as it was but counter service is cool, but not what it used to be... this hasn't only been the really hot days where I nkow a/c struggles to keep up, this started while it was still nice out.

Everyone I looked at yesterday was drenched in sweat, carrying towels many of them they purchased in the park trying to stay dry.. People were wandering into gift shops hoping to cool off for a few moments to find it wasn't cold enough to do that but lingered around as it was better than outside..

The kicker is almost everyone had a bottle of water or powerade in their hands and I know I constantly was drinking something. there's only so many times you can join everyone in the quick service trying to get water when you just need it faster...

I can handle the heat for an afternoon but without gift shops being cool it took me about an hour before I was just a zombie, soaked head to toe and stopped at least 2-3 times at a quick service for about 30-60 minutes with a tray of ice water trying to feel normal...

Now what started to piss me off, is people were buying water like never before. famillies were practically dying in any shade they can find while someone was getting 10 waters and carrying them back...

I'll go as far as saying disney has upped the price of beverages more than any other increase and now lowering the a/c to a almost medical issue temp so you can't cool off as you pass through the gift shop after a ride... This is a money grab don't care about your customers problem. It's florida, it's freaking hot here, this is not safe and your forcing people to spend more on beverages and not thinking about their health..

I hope this makes sense but to be honest, I'm looking at all of disney like AK in the summer now.. I don't really want to be in the parks right now like this.. it's not fun.

Thread is being moved since it has nothing to do with news or rumors.

It's Florida. In July. Not really sure what you expected. A/C can only lower temps about 20 degrees or so.

You cannot compare this to any previous year, this is basically disney turned off the a/c so you can't escape the heat without buying things that are cold or towels...

That's what my family saw during last Novembers weird heat wave. I hoped it was an anomaly....

Sorry but it's been hotter in the buildings when it was 80 out last month... this is not the same.. I iive here, this is not normal and they are keeping the buildings inside.. not a huge deal at 80, but when it's hotter and you can't cool off at all, it's an issue and the crowd was acting different from it.

some places like table service was normal and nice if you were willing to pay for food to cool off. (and they had room).

Oh no. I hope this isn't a trend. Cold buses and shops kept us sane last July.

We were there June 18-25 and I sweat the one bus we road on felt like the heat was on. It was horrible. By the time we got from AKL to MK I thought I would be sick from how hot it was. Most of the busses were cold though although monorail didn't seem cold enough

It could be a function of the high humidity. Most a/c systems are set to work more efficiently at a certain humidity level and below. Once it pass a certain level, the process breaks breaks down. The closer you get to 100% humidity, the worse the cooling process work.

I had to install a whole house dehumidifier to help the my central air (air source heat pump) to work efficiently.

Not at all true!

An efficient AC unit can lower its intake air by about 20° before returning it but that's not comparing the temperature it can cool the room to, to outside temperatures. Of course it depends on insulation and sun exposure etc. but a well-designed AC system should easily be able to hold a room or building to 70° or less on a 100° day!

Ice water is free at CS restaurants. Water from the sink to wet your towel is also free. No need to buy anything.

It seems to be a hit or miss thing. Never in our June trip did we feel like the A/C in doors was inadequate.

Many of Disneys shops don't have doors and I imagine when the real feel is over 100 it can be difficult to combat the heat in an open air environment. It would be smart of them to keep the doors closed but that will never happen.

I actually hated it when we went in the summer and the AC was so cold after being outside in the heat. I have to keep a sweatshirt with me so I wouldn't freeze while eating. If you are covered in sweat, sitting in a 68 restaurant is torture after a few minutes. There is a happy medium between freezing and too hot.

I have to agree. We were there June 20-28 and had several days with temps in the mid 90's and a real feel over 105. While it was hot and humid outside, I can't think of any restaurant, gift shop, resort, or bus that didn't feel adequately cool -- sometimes downright cold.

We were there a few weeks ago and the monorail, aka now the saunarail, this year was dreadfully hot. It's the first we've noticed this in the past ten years.

Disney has been skimping on the AC for years. There are some very old, well documented threads on this very subject.

Could they turn the AC down to save money? Yeah...wouldn't put it past them.

Are they doing it to drive drink sales? No...I'm not quite buying that.

However...take a look at the shot of the weather...
...that is defcon 1 in Orlando...it really doesn't get worse. Maybe it just sucks there right now?

The monorails are dreadfully OLD and should have been replaced 5-10 years ago. So I wouldn't expect a cooling slide to your $700 a night "MK view CL" room anytime soon...or ever again
