DH reallys wants to try these places, but I am not a very adventurous eater. Let me give the short list.. I do not like tomatoes, celery, lettuce, onion, peppers, pineapple, coconut, cucumber, any raw veggies, and I am not a salad fan. I am usually okay with new spices, but have heard they can be strong at Boma... Will I like these places or am I going to leave hungry? Should we just do one of these? And if so, which one do you recommend? I am a little scared of the menus and terrified that I will end up having chicken fingers and mac n' cheese for dinner :scared1:

TIA for your help!!!

I think you would not like Ohana, there is coconut pineapple bread, salad, broccoli and pea pods, veggies in the noodle dish. You might just eat the chicken wings and the other meats.

Why not go to these 2 places for breakfast instead? Boma breakfast is out of this world.

I actually think 'Ohana would be a good choice - it's simply grilled meat, and tons of it. They do have some stuff you wouldn't like but at this place, we didn't eat much of that anyways. We ate TONS of meat and didn't touch the bread, salad, or anything remotely healthy =)

It's a carnivores dream, and I didn't think any of it had any true spices on it.

My advice would be to skip 'Ohana and go to Boma. Boma has all kinds of 'African' foods, but to me, they are mostly normal foods with a small twist to them which is usually not even that noticable. There is also a whole section of mac 'n cheese, pasta and red sauce, fries, etc. (basically the kiddie portion of the buffet). You will not at all be frowned upon if you partake at these sections of the buffet! At Boma if you really don't like the other stuff, there's always something for everybody. Plus, the desserts are wonderful. 'Ohana is pretty limited...you get the few things they bring you and personally, I found most of the meat tough and grizzly...just me! Also, me (picky) and nephew (picky) had a tough time there....

My 2 cents...

No one in my family liked Boma's at all. We love O'hana's and you can't leave hungry. With all of the meats, potatoes, shrimp, chicken wings, green beans, never had broccoli there or the bread for that matter, the kind with coconut:confused3 I have had bread and we have eaten there the past 3 years and there was no coconut, which I too hate. The bread pudding with ice cream is very good as well. Boma just has too much stuff mixed in with the food to figure out what it is. Some really love it but I prefer O'hana's. O'hana's breakfast is good too it is a Lilo and Stitch breakfast and has basically traditional American breakfast foods, fruit, eggs, potatoes meats etc...

It's been a few years since we've been to Ohana's, but I do know they recently got rid of the potatoes, and I remember a lot of pineapple & coconut, so I think you'll be very limited there.

Boma has so many things on the buffet :goodvibes Before my kids became adventurous they always found things to eat. The prime rib, the salmon, roast chicken are very good and they've got the best strawberries I've ever had in my life. My dad also found plenty to eat and he's not adventurous at all :rolleyes1

I also found this. The selection of food is small and the meat is obviously cooked in large portions with a priority on that as opposed to quality. Its not awful or anything, but its just barely adequate. Most would probably not accept it if it wasn't for how it is served. I ended up eating a lot of salads, shrimp and the like. I love meat too, love it. What makes this place is the atmosphere.

Boma is routinely refferred to as one of the best restaurants at WDW. I don't know that can be applied, or is ever, to Ohana.

If you're a picky eater, I'd definitely choose Boma. The buffet has tons of items. None of them are particularly "exotic" or unique. We have many picky eaters in our family. They all found tons of stuff to eat at Boma.

Ohana is a fixed menu. So you don't get much choice. We didn't take the entire family there, because I figured some of them would only eat the meat. I'm sure they would have plowed through tons of meat, but that's not much of a dinner.

Thanks for all the responses. I am leaning toward dropping Ohana, just because it is a fixed menu. My DH may just have to deal with it. We'll try Boma and we're doing Biergarten (again!) so he should be happy with that. What would you recommend to take the place of Ohana? We're doing the DxDP and we're planning on doing that Ohana the night before EMH at MK, after we leave AK.... any ideas? We like the buffets simply for the variety of doos. Thanks!!!!

We were not thrilled with Ohana (didn't hate it, it was just "ho-hum" but LOVED Boma's!

DS and I are somewhat picky and left full and content! :rotfl: DH liked everything he tried there.

It (Boma) was the first on my list of ADR's to make for our upcoming trip! :goodvibes

We did Boma recently for breakfast and it was delicious, I would definitely go back there and would recommend it as well. I have not done O'Hana for some time since they started making all the changes and it got a bad reputation for not great service etc.... So I vote for Boma, lots of choices... and good food.

On our last trip we did both Ohana and Boma. We did Boma for breakfast and dinner and both were absolutely great. Thes selection of food for both dinner and breakfast would satisy just about anybody.
Ohana, which was a set menu, was also very good, and the food was plenty.
I would have to rate Boma a step up on Ohana. We will be returning to both
in August on the DDP.

We've eaten at both and although both are very good, I would have to say go to Boma:goodvibes . It took us awhile to try it because I was afraid it would be too different and we wouldn't like it, but I'm glad we finally went because we loved it!!!! There were some things out of the ordinary, but the nice thing about it was the buffet had such a variety of food, that there was something for everyone:thumbsup2 I don't think you will be disappointed;)

TIA for your help!!!

I am also a picky eater. I do not eat salad nor any of the things you listed except pineapple. I do however, love 'Ohana. I am too scared to try Boma as is DH (and he usually eats anything.) HTH! :)

My DH and I are also picky eaters. Neither of us eat many veggies. We were nervous about trying BOMA. We stayed at AKL in '05. The smell of the roasting meat was so heavenly that we decided to try it out. It was fabulous!!! We have made a point of eating there every trip since. Our 2 picky kids (ages 1 and 3) also liked it a lot on our last visit. I would highly recommend BOMA for dinner.

We tried both these places last September. I thought they were both good. Boma does have a lot to chose from, so I wouldn't worry about leaving hungry. My sister who was with us, is a picky eater and she really liked the food at O'hana's.

I am also very very picky and I enjoyed both Ohana and Boma. I have been to Boma three times and OHana just once on our last trip. At Boma I just try different things and if I don't like it, I give it to DH and get something else. I really enjoy their meat dishes and the desserts. If I am still a little hungry by dessert time I just try a good many desserts. I had never tried humus (sp?) until my first trip to Boma and now I really like it. At Ohana I ate the chicken wings, the potatoes (if they had onions I did not notice and I usually notice), the meat dishes and the dessert.

Just saw where you posted again. I did not like Biergarten at all. Never again.

Sandra

My DH is picky... a steak and potatoes man!

Last year we went to both Ohana and Boma and he liked both of them. There was a good variety of meats at both and the service was excellent!

Some additional info...
We had to wait at Ohana for a seat, but we enjoyed the entertainment ... music, dancing, lei's. My husband and I were pulled of front for anniverary too!

At Boma, the server was awesome. Our drinks were one half gone and we were brought a new one.

I'm a very picky eater too (and I have IBS so I have to just be careful about food in general) and I LOVED Boma. It's fun, it has a great view of the pool, and its just an amazing atmosphere. YOU MUST TRY THE BANANA BREAD PUDDING WITH VANILLA SAUCE for dessert. I'm obsessed with it.

Also they have drinks that glow. Really.

Okay.. I think I am going to bump Ohana.. but what should I replace it with? We are doing the DxDP and these are the places we are doing dinner:

Sat: WCC
Sun: Mama Melrose
Mon: ???????
Tues: LTT
Wed: Boma
Thur: HDDR
Fri: Biergarten

We are planning on doing Chef Mickeys, CP, CRT, Donalds, Coral Reef, Le Cellier, 50's Prime Time, Beaches and Cream, Playhouse Disney Breakfast, Cape May Cafe Breakfast and 2 Counter Services, for other meals.

What do you suggest for my empty space? We will be in AK that day and then heading to MK for the evening. TIA!!!
