I'm part of the Kindle club!!!

Santa brought me one for Christmas, too! :)

Quick Question: Is the screen supposed to have a design on it when it is off? I can't tell if I am turning it off or putting it into sleep mode.

I think that you're putting it to sleep, but I've honestly never turned mine off. If you really want to save power and you've got the 3G model, turn the 3G off from the menu before you flip the switch to put it to sleep. I rarely turn our 3G off and still get quite long lasting battery. But your mileage may vary!

I just ordered one for myself! My boss gave me a $100 AMEX card so I figured I would treat myself. Got free shipping too :)

I just ordered one yesterday with some christmas money (thanks Mom!). I can't WAIT to get it and start playing/reading. I didn't get the 3G version - just the wifi - so I hope I am not disappointed in that. But I have wifi at home so I am hoping it will be enough for me.

Anyone have any suggestions or ways to find out about free books? I can't wait to load it up for my upcoming beach vacation in January :)

I check the amazon free books weekly (sometimes more often). I also use my swagbucks to purchase books. There are books that I want to read that will never be free. I earn about $25/month with swagbucks. That is more than enough each month to buy books.

That's what I do too but I don't know how much I earn per month. I'll have to try and keep track of that. This is the only thing I use my swagbucks for.

I'm finally part of the club too! Mine shipped yesterday - it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow! I'm shopping for books now :cool1:

If you go to the amazon website, there is also a spot on the Kindle store page to the right where it lists Top 100 Bestsellers. It also has a tab for the top 100 free bestsellers.
I love mine and have gotten more free books than I've actually paid for.[/QUOTE]

For free e-books check out sites like..
mobileread.com
smashwords.com
inkmesh.com
project gutenburg for classics.

Lucky you! Which one did you get? I am debating if I want the 3G.

I got the latest generation in wi-fi. I didn't see a point in getting the 3G. I have wi-fi at home and there is free wi-fi in most of the locations I frequent. I am spending the extra money on a good book light and cover.

I am hoping to be part of the Kindle club next month. I asked for one for Valentine's Day. Let'e just hope that my DH was listening.

Amen. I saved the $50 bucks not getting 3G and bought the Amazon Kindle book cover with the light (which works great)

Valerie got her Kindle all set up. Just ordered an Oberon cover (daVinci in Saddle) for her as an extra/delayed Christmas present.

Regarding the earlier question about pricing, two notes: First, as alluded to earlier, pricing is set by the publisher. The retailer (Amazon.com) can't discount Kindle editions, as if they were hardcopies. There is no "clearance" for Kindle editions, because the retailer doesn't buy stock. Second, the price for the Kindle edition drops radically when the paperback edition comes out. Same book, same everything, but lower price. Generally, the Kindle edition for the books I've been looking buy run about $0.50 less than the price of the paperbacks.

Quick question.... On the new lending program do you have to know someone to have them lend it to you or is there somewhere to go to see all of the books that can be borrowed?

The new lending feature is a direct lend from another Kindle owner. As it reads to me, we get to lend each book just once (rather than just to one person at a time), for a limited period of time, but perhaps that's just a problem with the way they worded it.
