So the DDs left around lunchtime to spend the week at the beach with their dad and stepmom. Which means I have the week free!!!

We've already taken our vacation this summer (a week at HH followed by a week at WDW!) so techincally I'm not supposed to go anywhere - although I guess I could call the vet Monday morning, see if they had space to board my pets, and be in the car or on a plane somewhere Monday afternoon.

But, the plan is to stay home and get some house projects accomplished - and to be lazy, read, watch TV, and eat out every night. Todays' big project was to clean off my bathroom vanity and take all of the teenage stuff upstairs to the teenage bathroom, then go to Target and stock up on the kind of shampoo I like, etc. Very satisfying!!!

What else can you think of I might like to do? What would be on your list of you had a week at home alone (and you didn't work or have any other appointments you had to be on time for?)

I just couldn't stay home -- I think I would be checking airfare and be zipping to FL and yes I know its hot and crowded there now.

Florida just doesn't have any appeal right now, since we were at Hilton Head and WDW from June 29 - July 13. I thought about the mountains but I'm just not in the mood.

I do have some plans to visit some friends in another city tomorrow. maybe if I get these chores I'm thinking about finished tonight I will lose this desire to be productive and get up Monday morning and make some travel plans.

Then again, by then I might have sunk into general malaise and be too unmotivated to get anything accomplished...

I think a staycation sounds great, especially without the kids. I'm actually jealous.

I know - it's wonderful! I'm still in the "honeymoon phase" when I think I'll get all of the clutter picked up and put away, all the errands run, all the bills paid, all the paperwork filed. For example, I just went to Target this afternoon and bought a big Rubbermaid storage bin so I could (FINALLY!) put away the Easter decorations that have been sitting on my bar for almost four months now. So that's progress!!! We'll see how long I can keep it up - I've already given up my dream of cleaning out the attic this summer (not going to happen!!) but I still have high hopes for the cool part of the house.

I just ordered takeout from Outback and I'm going to pick it up in a few minutes. :cool1:

You sound downright giddy! This is almost as exciting as getting consecutive nights in DVC accomodations on short notice! :lmao:

I am SO jealous. DH took the kids camping a few years ago, without me :cool1: , and it was great. I did projects, got takeout, played MY music...LOUD...hung out with my best friend...heaven!

Years ago I heard about a study where women and men were asked that question...what would you do with a week off from work and your family. The majority of women said they'd do things like catch up on housework, and the men said they'd do things like go fishing or golfing. Now...what's wrong with that picture?! :headache:

I do have to say tho...about 7 years ago, I took the kids to California to visit my sister, and DH did a lot of housework...spring cleaning type things, like taking down curtains and washing them and putting them back up. :thumbsup2 I think I'll keep him.

:rotfl: Aaah, memories. Those DVC nights were SWEET!

Just trying to decide what to do for the evening - there is NOTHING I want to see on TV, and I'm not in the mood for any of my Netflix movies - I'm thinking I might see about sorting some things in my linen clsoet. That way if I get bored I can stuff it all back in and no one will know it's a mess but me.

Decisions, decisions!

If I were in your shoes, Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream and some chick flicks would be a must-do, one evening!

Have a great week, Liz!

Hmm, it's only 8:30pm - plenty of time to run over to B&J's or Baskin Robbins for a quart of something delicious. On the other hand, a lot of effort, and I did just finish a 9 ounce filet and a baked potato from Outback, along with a grilled shrimp appetizer and a salad.

Still, very tempting.

Damnit, Ethansmom, this is all your fault.:rotfl: I walked into the kitchen, saw a pint of Ben & Jerry's, opened it, and...Aaarrghh!! Almost gone!!! So of course I had to drive to Baskin Robbins (much closer to my house) and now I am sitting in front of the computer with a HUGE bowl of Jamoca Almond Fudge, my favorite!

So I have accomplished SOMETHING tonight, even if it wasn't exactly on my list.

ooohhh....you could go to a matinee one afternoon. Is Sex and the City still playing? Have you seen Mama Mia?

DH and I have a lot of time on our hands right now and plan on seeing the new Batman movie in IMAX one afternoon next week.

I have summers off, since I work at a school, and still haven't made a dent in my summer to-do list. I had hand surgery 2 weeks ago, and I'm healed enough to get back to my "list" with still a month to go.

Yes, SATC is still here. I think one of my days will be a movie day - maybe two back to back, if I'm feeling wild!!!!

If I give up my fantasy of getting the attic cleaned out this summer, I think I may get to most of the rest of my summer "to do" list. Depends on how willing the offspring are to help sort some clutter that is theirs mostly. If nothing else, at least it will get boxed up and moved to shelving in the garage, so they can access it but I won't be tripping over it every time I go upstairs.

I know what you mean about the kids' stuff - no kids at home here anymore, but older DS said today that his wife hasn't see the movie "Braveheart" (how could that be - he asks!) I told him that the VHS of that movie is probaably still in his closet at home (hint-hint!) Our other DS bought a house, and his former closet is full too! I tell them that when we finally move, they'll have a lot to clear out!

I would head to Chapel Hill for a day. I would go to Fearrington House and tour the gardens and have lunch. Then I would swing by A Southern Season. I could get lost in there for days. :cloud9:

I love staycations. I don't do anything constructive such as projects around the house, but I have plenty of ways to be entertained and relaxed just hangin' in the mancave:)

ooohhh I love love love A Southern Season!!! We try to visit when we see my mom in Raleigh, but hasn't happened lately!!!

I typically spend vacation time at home, working on the house and maybe doing a day trip. I find the hype in the news about "staycations" pretty funny.
