I'm on savings roll

I just calculated how much I've save towards our next trip to WDW (Who knows for sure when that will be, but I'm shooting for sometime in 2006). I was pleasantly surprised how much I have saved in what amounts to about a month and a half. Mind you, it's not a staggering amount of money, but DH went back to work in July and we had been struggling all year to pay all of our bills (which are now current, except one that is now one month behind and expected to be paid to date this month and one that is on a payment arrangement). The savings is an accomplishment for me.

$28.05 ING account #1 - funds from my personal checking account. This includes $ earned from ebay, rebates, rewards, etc. I had to remove all but $5 over a month ago when DH first returned to work, so it's been a slow rebuild. I've been taking 1/2 of what I deposit into the checking account and transferring to ING.

$40.12 ING account #2 - in DH's name and linked to our joint checking. Funds in the account come from the "savings" earned by rounding up debits and rounding down deposits. The same scenario as ING #1 in that I had to transfer all but $10 out a month or so ago.

$4.77 PayPal - only a few $ there right now because I've been shopping for Christmas presents on ebay.

$14.29 Checking Account linked to ING #1 has a few $ that is slowly building again. (same story as ING 1 & 2). It was nice to have a few $ lying around for quick access when it was needed while DH was not making the amount of $ we needed to pay all of our debts.

$14 Cash - I started stashing one dollar bills in envelopes. The first one is designated for "gas $". Each envelope has the amount needed for the trip.

? change jar - There's quite bit in there - lots of quarters. I haven't counted so I'm not even sure a guess.

There's also $3 in Disney Dollars. DD traded in a few gold dollars a few years ago for them.

The above totals up to $104.23, plus whatever has accumulated in the change jar. It doesn't seem like much when you look at each account separately, but it sure adds up quickly! I anticipate being able to add more after Christmas and as we get some of our charges and loans paid off.

Great job! I'm always amazed at how well I save for Disney. Too bad Disney tends to get paid before my credit card. BAD ME!

Are you ebaying? I've made well over $800 in one year just randomly selling old stuff I didn't want (a lot of it Disney stuff too!). Also, check out your Dollar Store or Big Lots for items you think would sell well. One local store has something I sell and make 200% profit on. I just wish they kept the supply in!

That is an excellent start! Keep up the good job of saving. You'll have enough for your trip before you know it. :D

Good for you! That's great!!:Pinkbounc I opened up my ING account in June and have $20 transferred into it from my checking account every week. I also put in any rebate check, pinecone check, etc that I receive. It's addicting to watch that amount grow!

Keep up the good work. :bounce:

Have you considered the Disney Visa to use for ordinary expenses? I use mine to purchase groceries and the like - it's been great to use the rewards for 'incidentals' that I normally HATE spending cash on.

Good going with the savings!

Right now we (I) have too much debt on charge cards to be able to acquire the Disney Visa.

I counted and rolled the change collected in our jar tonight. There's $23.05, and it really didn't look like all that much. My total is now $127.28.

If you currently have a bank one credit card of some type you can product trade to a disney visa. It won't get you rewards on your already charged amounts but when you get things paid off you could use it as above poster stated. The key of course is paying it off each month or your reward dollars will cost you interest dollars. We have been doing that since May and earned 65 reward dollars in about 3 billing cycles. I'm excited to have the extra for food if needed and shopping if not!

My kids have a change box and they use if for their vacation spending. They dig around the autos and the house for spare change. It gets them to clean out all sorts of strange places.

Rummage sale great idea! I didn't do as well as the above people but every little bit helps.

Check out books and videos/DVDs from the library. If they don't have what you are looking for they can often get it from other libraries. I've read all the disney guides this way.
