I'm Not As Tink As You Kronk I Am - Final Thoughts on Mustard's January Trip to WDW

We headed out of Typhoon Lagoon just before closing. It had been a great day and I was trying to keep a mellow pace. But I wanted us to make it to Spectro, which meant making it back to the resort and showering/changing, getting food, and driving to the TTC to catch the monorail to MK ...all within a couple of hours!

We made it back to the resort without issue and the DDs jumped in the shower. My parents decided to sit this one out and DW and I decided to wait until we got back for showers.

Sooo, DDs, DW, MiL and I piled into the van and headed out - planning on making a quick stop at a McDonalds just across the freeway (or so said our GPS). We crossed under the highway and there wasn't one where the GPS said there was supposed to be one. But we saw one a bit further down on the other side of the street so no worries, right?

Well I'm starting to sweat the time a bit and traffic is not cooperating, but we finally make it to it, get our food ordered, and start eating as I drive towards MK.

We make it to the TTC In decent time and get a pretty good parking spot, and then headed for the gates. By the time we get through I'm getting a bit paniced about time and MiL's electric wheelchair starts giving out.

We have 15 minutes to go and I grab the handles on the back and start trucking up the ramp with her with DDs and DW right behind us. We make it up in time and get on the monorail, and just as the doors are closing....

...

...YOU GUESSED IT!

It was only my second time to the TTC and I didn't pay attention, soooooo

OFF WE WENT TO EPCOT! :scared1:  :sad1: :sad2:

I was exausted and knew I had pushed us all and then didn't look up at the entrance sign and BAM! I was in a funk :headache: DW had seen the sign to EPCOT and had just assumed I knew where I was going. I had said Magic Kingdom, but it was in the middle of all our haste driving there so I understand her not catching it ...we were just so hurried.

So I was fuming AND felt like a jerk for making everyone rush and then blowing it.

It is amazing how long the ride to EPCOT and back is when you meant to go somewhere else. We eventually made it back with my wife talking me down and me trying to to let my bad mood rub off on the DDs.

We of course had to then go down the EPCOT ramp and up the MK ramp. There was a monorail there which I got myself and MiL to ...but DDs had to go to the bathroom and couldn't wait so we missed it :|

We took the next one and hustled down the ramp and towards the turnstiles. Bag check, ticket swipe, and I can hear the music playing! We make it through the tunnel and come out just as Mickey is rolling around in front of us!

Now one might consider this a triumph, but I knew this was the only night we'd see the parade so I wanted to get some good pictures. Here's where my next big goof comes into play.

I had been very good about charging all batteries each night but had neglected to do so the prior evening ....because we were going to use the waterproof cameras today, right?????

Needless to say I pulled out my dSLR and bing! dead battery. The parade is wheeling on by as I struggle with my camera bag. This is the one time that I lost sight of the real deal ...of making sure the girls were having a good time. No Daddy of the Year award for me.

DW got some help from a kind dad who helped the girls up onto the wall of the tree planter to the right after you go through the archway on the right. I looked up and they were set (I didn't know at the time that DW had to get help from someone else).

So I went back to my camera bag grumbling about the battery. I even played the "grumble at DW" card because that was the one purchase she said "no" to before our trip ...having an extra battery for the camera.

Grumble grumble grumble - are we all enjoying my pity party? :lmao:

I pulled out our video camera, which had been giving us fits lately and not wanting to start up. After 3 tries it finally spun up and was ready to record. I was gathering up my bag and attaching the monopod when MiL waved me up onto the porch of Tony's Town Square Restaraunt.

I caught the parade about half way through an pulled these wee screen grabs from it:

We followed the end of the parade up the street and picked a spot on the sidewalk just up from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for Wishes. We were at the back of the tape so at least nobody could crowd in behind us.

DW braved the line in the ice cream parlor to get the girls some treats while I tried to keep people from standing right in front of my MiL in her wheelchair. The show finally started and I tried the amazing feat of filming with a tired 8yr old on my shoulders.

Here's a few caps from that:

Afterwards we took our time, looking through shops and continuing the search for bells to add to DD11s bell collection as DD8 continued to to amass snow globes for her collection :D

I went out and bought each girl a balloon and was happy to realize that they had been too tired to notice how grumpy I had gotten earlier. We eventually made our way out of the park and back home. DW and I finally got our showers and we all hit the sack. And yes, DW and I had a talk after everyone went to bed and I promised to not let life's little oops'es get to me like that again ;-]

Whew! Another long day with over a week of fun to go! We had MGM or DHS, whichever you prefer, set for tomorrow. Would it be fun in the sun or are there more clouds on the horizon? I promise I won't hold y'all in suspense quite so long this time ...hehehe

I was just about to go to bed, and figured I hit refresh one more(you know we all do that) and saw you had done an update:cool1:

What an update it was

Poor Col Mustard:hug:

I know it was not funny at the time, but hearing you recount your mishap was hilarious:rotfl2:

At least you caught half the parade and got some good shots.

Now the big question, did you remember to charge your batteries for the next day:rotfl2:

Hehehe, you are a sharp one! Thankyee for taking a peek in on me here even if I have been neglecting my DISing for a couple of days

Yes, it will be one of those stories to tell and yes, now I can look back on it and laugh :lmao: And I still did get some decent shots, but I had really been looking forward to getting some premo fireworks shots.

Ahhh well, just gives me more incentive to come back! :cool1: Oh Yes! All batteries went on chargers that night and every night after ;)

I was so happy to see an update!

Sorry about all of your problems, that would be so frustrating getting on the wrong monorail and finding dead batteries. I know it is also frustrating being in a bad mood at WDW too;)

I had a moment like that and I felt so dumb that I was in WDW and moody:laughing:

You still enjoyed yourself though, and next time you will make sure your batteries are charged and check the monorail sign right?

The pics of spectro are actally great. I haven't seen that in a couple of years, it's really beautiful.

Glad the girls were oblivious to your stress:)

I'm looking forward to the next day...:wizard:

now a true diser knows the difference between the MK and Epcot monorail. :rotfl2:
Sorry that happened to you but it is funny. I hate rushing, that is when everything goes wrong.
I know all about dead batteries, I am coming up to that and it changed my entire nights plans.
Great update and pics.

great update mustard! :thumbsup2

that totally sucks that you ended up on the monorail to Epcot. Sounds like something that would happen to me and my DH. I can sympathise with your grumpy mood. I probably would have felt the same way. And oh man, no battery on the camera! That just tops it off. :headache: good thing your DW was there to help calm you down. That was sweet of you to appologize to her later and promise to not react like that again. :thumbsup2

At least you were able to fire up the video cam finally. When there's a will there's a way! :goodvibes

Wow - what a trip! Glad your girls enjoyed Spectro, even with all the drama!

And I must say, your backup video shots worked out a lot better than my camera phone shots of ds facing Darth Vader!!! But, it's the memories that count, not just the pictures - keep reminding yourself that!

We've all had moments like you had, where we're so intent on getting somewhere or doing something that we let ourselves get worked up about it. I know Dh and I have been there more times than I like to admit! ;)

Sounds like you still had a nice end to the day :)

nice stories from the day.

and way to go on motoring over to epcot, i know you just wanted to ride throught the park and see the ball.
:thumbsup2

never let on to your mistakes just let others think yo uplanned it that way, that is the way i live my life, you just have to be quick on the explination as to why you are heading toward detroit michigan and see signs for lake michigan ahead in 20 miles....yep drove the wrong direction across the state of michigan for over an hour.

told DW i was checking out the area for a future trip over there.
:thumbsup2

she bought it for a few minutes.

cant wait till more.

:sad2: Tourists...:lmao: j/k

Everybody has their moments. That stinks you all ended up on the wrong monorail. At least it all turned out ok in the end. Dead batteries stink, too. I don't have rechargeable batteries for my camera and I was changing them daily. Stupid expensive batteries.:headache:

You got some great shots of the parade and of the fireworks. Good to see you got the cameras working.:thumbsup2

Just giving you a bump....what's next:cool1:

Hey All!

I had a crazy week at work with a lot of changes coming down. Home life has been busy with lots of activities and appointments. And both girls had friends spend the night on Friday, so we had a total of 5 girls overnight and then took them all to see Alvin and the Chipmunks yesterday afternoon.

I've spent what little free time I've had going through and editing 1250 pictures that I took on our 4th day :surfweb: I shaved it down to just over 10% with 139 that I will be posting in chunks

I was so happy to see an update!

Yes, all trips have that one moment where things go south. I just have to remember to take it in stride ;) Oh yes! My attention to detail went way up from there - hehehe.

Yes, Spectro was very cool looking ...we hadn't seen it before. Yes, the girls were enjoying it and were on the tired side anyways from the day at TL, so they were pretty oblivious.

I'm looking forward to the next part too. Now if I can only get it finished :lmao:

now a true diser knows the difference between the MK and Epcot monorail. :rotfl2:

Great update and pics.

YES! I certainly do - hehehe. Yes, I can laugh about it now. Just part of the grand adventure. But no matter how much we plan there will always be hiccups to deal with.

Oh, you got hit with the dead battery thing too aye? Well I'm ordering a spare battery for my canon so this won't happen again. Now I'll just forget to bring the spare battery - lol

great update mustard! :thumbsup2

Yup, just a comedy of errors. My DW rocks! Hey, I goof up a lot but I try to recognize when it happens so I at least don't do the same goofs ove and over ;) Yes, I try to have a backup plan - hehehe.

Yes, they had lots of fun. Well at least you had something there to capture the memories too! I had to use my cell phone camera on Friday when I chaperoned DD8 & her class during a tree planting trip. They are low-res but they are something at least :-]

We've all had moments like you had, where we're so intent on getting somewhere or doing something that we let ourselves get worked up about it. I know Dh and I have been there more times than I like to admit! ;)

Hehehe, yeah, getting focused on the goal can make you miss stuff along the way. Just gotta live and learn and look back on it with a smile! Yes, it ended on a good note.

Yup, that was the only time we rode the monorail around there - so I guess I can count it as one more thing we got to do :rotfl2:

LOLOLOL - that is hilarious about driving towards Lake Michigan :D I've done stuff like that too, but quick thinking with a response to DW. Now the big question ...did she buy it?

:sad2: Tourists...:lmao: j/k

Yup, I feel into the n00b tourist trap alright. READ THOSE SIGNS!

Oh yes, stupid expensive batteries! That's why we didn't get the extra battery before the trip - they cost $50 a pop. Yeah, rechargable batteries are a cost saver in the long run, but they just don't seem to last as long.

Hey, where there's a will there's a way, right? We only ended up using the video camera one other time ...and DD8 was operating it, so it's a real piece of cinematograply - hehehe.

Just giving you a bump....what's next:cool1:

Thank you  I shall get caught back up darnit! I looked through my pics and day 4 was the most pics I took during a day during the whole trip, so other updates should go faster :thumbsup2

Well OK then!

I know I took waaayyy too long with this update, but there were many, many pics to go through for this day. I'll have to split the day into several posts because I took 1,200+ pics and it took a lot of choosing just to bring them down to 139 that I wanted to post. And now back to our story!

After a day off my itinerary and the goofs at the end of the day I figured it was best to get back to what I had planned. So it was off to MGM! I contemplated the whole "naming" thing with the change to Disney Hollywood Studios, but if they don't have the time to change the signs or any of the merchandise, then I'm gonna keep referring to it as MGM.

We did not make rope drop, but were still there by 10am :D It was another beautiful day with a high expected around 78 degrees an no rain - whoohoo! I didn't bother taking a picture of the sign at the parking lot entrance because it was pretty lame as entrances go. So we went through the turnstiles and I hung back to catch the fam rolling in

But before we took on the thrill rides I steered us to Beauty and the Beast, which was getting ready to start. Now I took a LOT of pics at the shows we caught, so I'm just going to start rolling with it. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present ...your picture trip through Beauty and the Beast!

It was a great show that everyone enjoyed thoroughly. I am continually impressed with the amount of time and energy Disney puts into their productions.

We were at the top of the stadium when it ended so we were able to head straight out and the fam went up the stand by line for ToT while I took our tickets and got FPs for all of us to ride it again. I caught back up with the group and the moms waited through the line but decided to not ride the ride.

Dis08_161.jpg

Dis08_162.jpg

Dis08_179.jpg

Riding it once was enough for me at that point ...not because of the ride itself, but because I was getting HUUUNNNGGGRRRYYY! The mom's and I decided to head down to the Sunset Ranch Market for lunch and gave the FPs to DW, who rode it 2 more times with the DDs. They called in between their second and 3rd ride and I told them what was on the menus and I picked up their food so they could eat as soon as they got there.

While they were eating I picked up FPs for Rock n Roller Coaster and we were able to ride by the time everyone was done eating. Sorry, no pics from that. The mom's sat it out also, but the DDs, DW, and I had fun on it.

After that we headed up the street and across the central plaza. We had missed Indiana Jones so we kept on past it to Star Tours. Now I'm a BIG Star Wars fan, but skipped this one because I did it at DL and when it comes down to it, it's just another motion sim ride and I'm not much for the way those things bounce me around. So again DW was on ride duty with the DDs, which she was fine with.

there was a 20 minute wait at stand by so I took the moms down to MuppetVision and it was about to start. So we went on in and it was a pretty cute show. I especially liked Statler and Waldorf up in their traditional box heckling the show :D

Dis08_163.jpg

Dis08_164.jpg

Dis08_165.jpg

Afterwards we looked around a bit and DW and the girls had their turn in MuppetVision. We all met up at the exit and headed around the back towards Lights, Motor, Action!, which was going to start within the hour. DW and the moms headed for the line while I waited for the girls to do a bathroom break. When we caught up we saw that they were near the front, which didn't turn out to really mean anything since they just open the gate and let everyone flood in anyways.

We went around back to the elevator and we all got situated at the top of the stands towards the left-hand side. I got a little miffed because there was a section towards the middle of that area that would have fit both mom's chairs and all of us, but the CMs wanted to fill in the end first. I did my little internal mantra to not let things get to me and we settled in to wait for the show. I did pretty good at the trivia and got my camera set up with my monopod and my fastest lens to catch the action.

So without further ado ...my pictorial rendering of the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

Wow, that was a long break!

I've never seen the Beauty and the Beast thingy. But it looks like fun.

Only once on ToT? I'm sure you'll get to it more later!

I can't believe you don't like Star Tours! I guess its not really that exciting. I think I only like it because its in Disney.:confused3 At least you got to be designated babysitter of the moms!:thumbsup2

I never knew those were the names of the guys that heckled the Muppets.

There's something fishy about the pictures at the end.:confused3

Yay!!!

You are rolling right along:cool1:

I am really enjoying all of your pics. I have never seen Beauty and Beast Show and probably won't until Ds is a bit older, so made me feel like I was there.

I love all your little comments, cue the music, etc:lmao:

Keep them coming Col!!!!

Ok, now I see the Lights, Motors, Action pics. Am I on crack or what?:confused3
