I'm Not As Tink As You Kronk I Am - Final Thoughts on Mustard's January Trip to WDW

I'm sure I missed a ton of updates while I was in Orlando. I'm almost afraid to look :rotfl:

Off to attempt to catch up

I think she'll be ok and after hearing big sis talk about World Showcase she's wanting to see more. Yup, must have been the park - hehehe. Thank you on the right-o ;) Luckily I recovered well and was back on my game for AK!

Well that's good. :goodvibes

I just read your update on the beginning of AK. That's cool that you got to see the characters come out at opening. I love that :lovestruc Glad everyone was feeling better too that morning!

Nemo looks amazing!! I must see that show. It's also one of my favorites.:thumbsup2

Now back to catching up

Oh yeah! I hope there's a pic of you in the other updates in your new sweatshirt. I just love those disney sweat shirts! I got a tinkerbell one a couple of years ago and I wear it ALL the time.

Well, I'm all caught up. I'm so jealous that you got to ride EE twice. I still haven't ridden it yet. I WILL ride it this time!! You got some amazing pictures though!

And the animal interaction you had with the animals on the Safari...wow. The baby Rhino is soooo cute :thumbsup2

I love Rainforest Cafe. Good choice! I've never been to the one at AK though. Only DTD. I'm sure they're both the same. And again, great pictures. I love taking pictures of fish too. Especially when they come out as crisp as yours did. WTG! :goodvibes

That parade at AK looks like fun too. Your MIL and DD's really had good character interaction. That's so cool that they all came up and gave out hugs.

I can't wait to "hear" about the next day where the girls each chose a different park to go to. That's so cool that ya'll do that with them! :thumbsup2

Yeah, the characters coming out was a happy suprise for sure! And having everyone feeling better was a real blessing :)

Nemo rules! :cool1:

Hmmm, I'll have to look and see if there's a pic of me in the sweatshirt. The pics of me are pretty few and far between unfortunately. Tis the price one pays for being the photo nut :rotfl: I really enjoy wearing the sweatshirt, not just because it is a nice one, but because it is a great conversation starter. It is amazing how many people have Disney radar out there :wizard:

Yup, EE was a blast and will be on the "must do" list for all future trips! And the safari was really cool, it was a perfect temperature and time of day. Very relaxing despite all those ruts in the road - lol. The baby rhino and the lion were probably the two high points for me :)

Rainforest is just a fun themed place to eat. Some people think its a bit over the top, but I think that's part of its charm :D I'll have to try the one at DTD so I can say I've been to all 3 at the Disney parks ..hehehe.

Tropical fish are just so vivid and fun to capture. The lighting in those tube tanks really help capture them well.

As far as the parade I think it really helped being at the very end ...the characters just seemed to go for those last hugs n such before disappearing behind the gates into CM land.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to wait through all of those picture loads  I know I tend to shoe-horn in quite a few on a page.

As far as the next installment I've just finished editing the pictures and getting them posted on my website. Now I have to go back through my notes and put together the stories for both my/DD8's day and DW/DD11's days :D Hopefully I'll have something up in the next day or so ;)

I didn't comment on most of your updates...but I did read them.

I'm going to make comments on the remaining three pages I still need to read.

------

For some reason, it makes me sad to see the veggies forced into the shape of mickey...haha.

Your family is just adorable. I love that the girls kept getting chosen for things like Turtle Talk and the dolphin show. Priceless!

That stinks that people were feeling sick. Other than my allergies (which always bug me) we lucked out on our trip.

We didn't watch illuminations. Was that around in the early 90's? It seems familiar.

Animal Kingdom time! YAY!

My hubby has been sporting his WDW sweatshirt a lot since we've been home...haha.

The Nemo show looks pretty cool. I've only seen the movie once though.

I just love primeval whirl. I laugh hysterically on that! My husband decided he should only do it once a day though. It gives him a headache if he goes twice.

All these AK photos really make me miss this park. It's just so beautiful and there are so many little details and great things to take photos of.

We have a picture of me pulling the cart too. Haha.

I think EE is the best themed ride in all the Disney parks I've been too. It's just wonderful. We rode it three times each day we went. We asked for the front row all 6 times and it was amazing!

The queue for EE is really great. So much to look at.

Great Yeti photo! We tried but didn't get one. I just showed it to my husband. He said, "is that the guy that takes the really good pictures?" Haha...I've shown him other stuff in your report before.

You got to see a lot of animals on your safari! I'm jealous. We didn't see the lions at all.

Your daugthers smiles during the parade are just priceless!

When were they in a double stroller? I didn't see that in any photos.

Wow...that was a lot of pictures on page 29. took me a long time because for some reason my computer will only load about 50 of them at once. Then I have to right click each red X and click "show picture." but I did see them all!

I have no idea which parks you decided to head to. Personally, I would choose AK! :)

oh yes, it was a blast

Being in front of the camera when you're the only one that really wants to take pictures is hard most of the time. I have the same problem. I make Chris take pictures of me :rotfl: I used to feel dumb shoving the camera at him saying "take a picture of me", but it's no biggie now. I want to remember that I was there too  . As for the sweatshirt, I know what you mean about them being convo starters. Mine is one as well. As are all of my Disney t-shirts. I'll either just get a compliment or people that want to stand there and talk about the parks and stuff. It's great! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to try out EE in September!

I also think the "over the topness" of Rain forest is part of the charm. I love it.

Be at the end of the parade route to get lots of Character hugs. Check! :goodvibes

The hords of pictures do not bother me. I have high speed internet both at work and home so the pictures load right away for me. :3dglasses I love looking at all of them!

Will be on the look out for the next installment. I still have to write one about my Mini trip to MK :rolleyes1

Welcome aboard!

For some reason, it makes me sad to see the veggies forced into the shape of mickey...haha.

It is a bit twised, isn't it?

Your family is just adorable. I love that the girls kept getting chosen for things like Turtle Talk and the dolphin show. Priceless!

Thank you! They were pretty lucky with getting picked that day - wearing the Disney hats seems to make a difference in them being spotted, that's for sure.

That stinks that people were feeling sick. Other than my allergies (which always bug me) we lucked out on our trip.

Good for you, I'm glad you were able to duck the ick. My DW and DD11 have pretty bad allergies too but they have a good regimen of meds and to a certain extent just deal with it like you must have to :)

We didn't watch illuminations. Was that around in the early 90's? It seems familiar.

A more learned DISer will have to answer that one ...no, wait a minute - it'll bug me if I don't find it out ...hehehe. There we go, the wizards of info at wikipedia say that Illuminations premiered in October of 1999 as part of WDW's Millennium Celebration :thumbsup2

Animal Kingdom time! YAY!

Yes indeed!

My hubby has been sporting his WDW sweatshirt a lot since we've been home...haha.

They are very stylish :cool2:

The Nemo show looks pretty cool. I've only seen the movie once though.

It was very a very cool and fun show. We had it on "heavy rotation" on the DVD player when DD8 was younger :D

I just love primeval whirl. I laugh hysterically on that! My husband decided he should only do it once a day though. It gives him a headache if he goes twice.

It seems to have that laughing effect on quite a few people :rotfl2: I can understand your hubbie's point of view on that - I can't ride most carnival rides for the same reason.

All these AK photos really make me miss this park. It's just so beautiful and there are so many little details and great things to take photos of.

We have a picture of me pulling the cart too. Haha.

It is an amazingly detailed and immersive environment at AK for sure. The Imagineers really outdid themselves. I want to be able to really just stroll around for a day there without worrying about ride times or anything the next time I'm there but I know it would bore the rest of the family to tears :lmao:

Gotta love the cart pics - they are campy but always bring a smile to look back on.

I agree with that one, EE is amazingly well-themed. 3 times each day? Wow, you're lucky. And I know if we go again we'll have to take turns riding in the front car.

We didn't ride up front either time and from what I've heard it really makes a difference. And yes the queue is amazing with the amount of good stuff to look at and really bring you into the world of the Himalayas and the Yeti.

Aw shucks, thank you for the great compliment from both of you about my picture taking. I'm very much and ameteur but I get a lot of joy from being able to come up with a good shot of something :) The funny thing about the yeti shot is that I had no clue if I'd get him and if I did that he'd be clear at all. Just like everything else it was a little bit of skill and a LOT of luck :thumbsup2

You got to see a lot of animals on your safari! I'm jealous. We didn't see the lions at all.

The only two things I went into the park with that day was 1) eat lunch at Flame Tree, and 2) do the Safari either first thing or towards the end of the day. I was just lucky that both panned out well ;)

Your daugthers smiles during the parade are just priceless!

When were they in a double stroller? I didn't see that in any photos.

Yeah, they are my smiling angels and I was just so happy that it worked out since they initially didn't have an interest in seeing the parade at all.

Hmmmm, there is one shot of them in the double-stroller on our way to EE ...here it is
Dis08_877.JPG

They got chauffeured around quite a bit from that day forward. It worked okay for me too since it gave us another place to put stuff rather than carrying it.

Wow...that was a lot of pictures on page 29. took me a long time because for some reason my computer will only load about 50 of them at once. Then I have to right click each red X and click "show picture." but I did see them all!

Sorry about that, I know it was a pretty cumbersome load for some. Even I have issues when my ISP having one of its "slow days". But having to click on them to get them to load, that's a new one. You might try hitting refresh (F5) on your browser to see if that will get the rest of them to load. I'll try and stretch out my posts a bit more so I don't end up with a page full of pics.

AK would probably have been my choice too, but my girls had other plans ;)

Cool - glad to hear it!

Yes, I'll have to get more assertive and have my fam take more pics of me on future adventures. I would be nice to look back and feel more a part of the festivities. And Disney apparel is the way to go - I had a short conversation yesterday getting coffee and a long one today at lunch.

And now that I started going to the management meetings the first thing I noticed was the Director of Business Svcs has a black Mickey mug that is styled exactly like my red ToT mug! I'm looking forward to sporting mine at next week's meeting - lol

Yes, EE is a must for sure - fast-paced with really cool theming.

Over-the-topness is fun when done the Disney way :D

Glad to hear the pics aren't slowing you down cause I've got a bunch of them done up for day 9, which is just about to start!

I'm looking forward to your mini-TR - make sure and send me a link when you get it rolling

Hey There DIS’ers! I got slowed down a bit last week due to the flu bug hitting my family, which I ducked only to have a rib go out and leave me homebound on heavy pain meds for a couple of days – wheee! I’m back in the saddle now as it were and have spent the past couple of days churning through photos to get big Day 9 of 11 posted

As you may remember DW and I sat down with the girls and let them decide where to go on our “extra” WDW day. The envelope please!

Bean (DD8) wanted to go back to MGM and Pumpkin Girl (DD11) wanted to go back to Epcot and hit the World Showcase (which we completely missed the first day due to bad planning and sickies). Bean wanted me to go with her …she’s like that if we’re doing something different or daunting. Makes my dad mojo shoot up a notch when she says only daddy will do …Hehehe. DD11 was fine with going with DW, so it was settled.

We all piled in the van and I offered to DW that she keep the rig in case they finished their day first. So I drove us all to MGM and Bean and I gathered our stuff and gave big hugs n kisses to DW and sis and waved goodbye to them as they went off in search of Epcot and their adventure.

I’m going to start off with DW and DD11’s day at Epcot because it is always “ladies first” …one learns this lesson pretty quickly when surrounded by them – lol

wow! you broke a rib on top of everything else!? That stinks! Glad you are feeling better though. :thumbsup2

:woohoo: I'm excited to read about the girls' split days. Good park choices on both for sure!!

:rotfl: I love what you said about the ladies first thing. Good man. You must have had to learn that lesson early.

DW and DD11 finished dropping me and Bean off and made tracks to Epcot, found good parking, and hit the turnstiles just as the park opened. They got inside and DD11 already had a list of things to hit/places to go. Their first stop was “Honey I Shrunk the Audience”, which they enjoyed.

Somewhere around that time DD11 realized that she had left her camera on the table back at the resort :( It was the only day that I wasn’t there to take pictures and she was really looking forward to being “in charge” of getting pics as they walked around. Needless to say she was pretty bummed about it. DW bought a couple of disposable cameras from one of the shop and they started snapping pics here and there. Unfortunately most of them did not turn out but a couple are scattered here and there amongst the photopass pics :-]

Somewhere in the early hours they hit the character stop and DD11 met up with some familiar friends

Their next stop was Journey into Imagination with Figment. DD11 really liked Figment and ended up with a Figment snow globe by the end of the trip :D From there it was off to ImageWorks where they did some really fun interactive stuff in there.

Then they hit Soarin’ and took the extra time to do the trivia test and got cool certificates from it. DW was nice enough to say DD8’s name when they asked so she got one too ;) Innoventions East was their next destination for more interactive fun.

By the time they finished with that they were pretty hungry and stopped off at the Electric Umbrella for lunch. Standard counter service fare, but it did a good job to give their legs as rest and refuel them for their next stop which was Spaceship Earth. They thought it was pretty cool …I forgot to ask DW if she noticed any of the changes from when she was there in the 80s.

Innoventions West was their next stop and I believe that is where DD11 made me a cool little gray/green robot that has a proud place amongst my toys in my office at work.

Now it was time to make the big transition and hit World Showcase! DD11 had a grand plan for catching as many characters as she could that afternoon. They started in Canada and buzzed through it pretty quickly. Next stop was UK where they caught up with the White Rabbit

They looked around a bit and then moved on to Japan. Here’s where they hit a bit of a cultural oops and started looking for Mulan there. No Mulan to be found of course so they left Japan and skipped the American Adventure (since they were character hunting and already had the “classics”). They glanced at Italy and made it to Germany, where they stopped to shop.

DD11’s favorite thing to collect is bells and they had a wonderful crystal bell in one of the shops. Unfortunately the one she picked out was cracked. They told her they could find another one and that they did engraving, so she asked for her name and the year (2008) to be engraved on one. It turned out that one of the CMs had to leave the store to go to some other store room to find one and then get it engraved. It was going to take about 30 minutes for the whole thing so they decided to…

…you guessed it, go back to Japan to look for Mulan again. It is a sad truth that I’m the geography person in the family and wasn’t there to save them the extra legwork. At least this time they were told that she was in China. Time for a quick rest stop for Funnel Cakes at American Adventure – yum yum!

They stopped back into the shop in Germany and the bell was ready – yay! From there it was of course on to China …only to find out they had just missed Mulan :( So they headed over to Mexico and rode the 3 Caballeros and got a sig and Pics with Donald (sorry you missed him Dan)
Dis08_1424.JPG

On to Norway and Maelstrom. They were going to see the show but missed it due to a bathroom break. With that they decided they had gotten their fill of world travel and returned to Future World. The line was short for Test Track, so zoom zoom!
Dis08_1403.JPG

From there they did some shopping, largely in Art of Mickey and picked up a framed Mickey & Minnie for DW’s best friend and a couple of posters (which we now have proudly framed at home). They had a very full day and decided to call it a day. They strolled out the gates and DW gave me a call to tell me they were on their way to pick us up.

Next up my DD8 AKA “the whipmaster” tests my endurance for thrill rides and my ability to criss-cross the park as we have our MGM Day! :scared1:

wow! you broke a rib on top of everything else!? That stinks! Glad you are feeling better though. :thumbsup2

:woohoo: I'm excited to read about the girls' split days. Good park choices on both for sure!!

:rotfl: I love what you said about the ladies first thing. Good man. You must have had to learn that lesson early.

No no, didn't break one - it just became separated/came out of place. All I can say is that if it hurts this much to just come out of place I don't want to have anything to do with one breaking :scared1:

Yes, they made some fun choices and ta-da :wizard: I already have the ladies portion of it up for your viewing pleasure!

Oh yes, raised in a house full of women ...live in a house full of women. You either learn some chivalry or you don't last long ;) :worship: :lmao:

wow looks like your DW and DD11 had a great day at EPCOT!! Those character pictures are awesome!! :thumbsup2 Is there a times sheet telling you when all the characters will be out? I can never seem to time that stuff right!

that stinks that the bell DD11 liked was cracked. But you had to know Disney could make it right :thumbsup2 Go Disney!!

I think the character pictures I like the best that your DD11 got is the one of beauty and the beast and aladin, jasmin and the jenie. Good work DD11!!

Now can't wait to hear about the "whipmaster"

oh man! total bummer. At least you didn't break it though. That would be a longer healing time. My MIL has broken some ribs just sneezing. I'm sure she could tell you what it feels like.

I read the update and already replied. :thumbsup2 I'm good.

:rotfl: :rotfl: ain't that the truth!

I was expecting to get both sides of the day at once....No worries though.

Are you still on the meds? How are you feeling now? Are you back at work? Is your family healthy again?

What a great day at Epcot:thumbsup2 They got alot done.....and it must not have been that busy for them to get a car to themselves at Test Track.

Funnel Cake, did someone say funnel cake? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Cute character photos. Too bad your daughter forgot her camera.

Can't wait to read more! :)

Sorry about your rib.

So we waved good-bye to DW and DD11 and headed for the turnstiles. It was a pretty nice day with a decent amount of sunshine and a high expected to be in the low 70s. We had a great spot in line …maybe 5 people back in our queue. The CMs were milling around and talking to each other as they got ready to open. Right before they were going to start letting people in Bean had to have a potty break. Good old bladderus interruptus.

So we went off to the left of the entrance to the bathrooms just past customer relations. While she was in there I finally remembered to pick up “1st Timer” buttons. Yeah, 9 days into the trip and I remember the buttons :P I was able to get one for me and Bean, plus and extra for DD11. They were the last 3 the CM working the window had – Whoohoo!

She came out and I gave her the button and we were on our way in. We made a quick stop at the stroller rental and picked up her “ride”. By this time the good people at InTheCan Pictures were doing their thing

I asked Bean if she wanted to watch the show and she answered quick as a shot that she wanted to get down to RnRC and ToT while everyone else was watching this. Oh yes, she was coming to the ways of the DIS just fine – Hehehe.

We ran into another lively character at the end of the road
Dis08_1079.JPG

She was quite talkative but we had other things in mind:
Dis08_1080.JPG

We had gotten to ride RnRC once on our first MGM day and ToT 3 times. Bean wanted to at least match her 5 times of riding ToT in DL when she was five. So I snapped a quick pic of her in front of the guitar
Dis08_1081.JPG

Then we grabbed FPs and headed down the standby lane, which had a 10 minute wait posted. Before we went in the door I I grabbed a shot of ToT
Dis08_1082.JPG

And on we went inside. The line actually didn’t form until right about here
Dis08_1083.JPG

So we were quickly in to see the guys
Dis08_1084.JPG

We get the invite and head “around back” to wait for our limo. The club across the way was rockin’
Dis08_1085.JPG

We rode the in the second car that time and it was fun, but a bit crowded with my long legs and camera backpack. Soooo away we went back around – FIVE MORE TIMES before getting to a point where the line was getting longer …meaning it was just starting to go out the door – lol. We waited through that last line for our 5th line and low and behold it was FP time! Yup, you got it – six times in a row!!!

After the first time we decided we would wait to ride in the first car – more leg room for me and a much better view for Bean :D The CM running the ‘first car’ queue got to know us very well. He was very fun and talked to us while we waited. After the first couple of times we wouldn’t even have to ask, he’d just immediately wave us into the waiting area when we came up.

We were actually kind of bummed that he wasn’t there for ride number six. It was fun talking to the other people – especially since we were next to first time riders almost every time and Bean got to boast about her riding prowess. Anyways, here’s a shot of us “flooring it” down the entrance tunnel. I was driving of course ;-]

With all that under our belts do you think she would give ole dad a break? No way Jose! We were off to ride ToT!

We grabbed FPs and strolled up the standby line, which was at 15 minutes. I was interested in seeing what I could capture this time around so I went into geeky camera guy mode. The first time in I didn’t take any shots of the gardens or lobby, instead tweaking settings for low light inside the ride. I caught these on the first go of it:

And yes, you got it – Bean going full tilt and me on another thrill ride playing with my camera

The next time around I get some obligatory lobby shots

I even ran over and got a quick pic of the directory

And then it was back into the ride!

And then I test my manual dexterity to switch to auto/high-speed settings and catch a beauty shot out the open doors at the top!

And with that I’ve hit my pic posting limit and it be time for beddie-bye. We’ll catch up with more adventures as my dear daughter puts me through my paces trying to keep up with her high-energy plans for us.

great update and pics.

the ones on TOT are really nice.

yay you started to tell about your adventure with Bean! :woohoo:

She really is getting smart on how to avoid crowds at the parks. :thumbsup2 She will be a full fledged Diser before you know it

That's AWESOME that you got to ride RnRC 6 times!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: (one for each time you rode) The Redneck picture you got of you "driving" cracked me up. :rotfl:

And oh my, the pictures you got on ToT are amazing!! I'm so jealous. I always try to get dark pictures but they NEVER come out. I guess I just need to break down and finally buy an SLR. The picture of you fiddling with your camera while everyone else enjoyed the ride cracked me up too. I'd probably be doing the same thing :rotfl:

Great start to what seems to be a fun filled day with you and your DD8! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read more!

Wonderful updates!!!

The photo pass pics from Epcot are great ~ they had such a fun day and did so much!

Six times on RRC?!? Sounds wonderful to me but did you have a headache? That's alot of jostling!

The pic of you on the TOT playing with your camera is too funny:lmao:

I can't wait to hear about the rest of your day!

Yup! I sat on the laptop in the living room while DW rocked out to Guitar Hero Encore - Rock the 80s :cool1:

Whoohoo indeed! It was a great time and I didn't even get sick ...although by the end of ride #6 I was ready to take a break from it ;) Yeah, I had seen pics of myself every time I got off and thought the driving thing would be better for a chuckle than me just having my arms up in the air.

Thank you! :) I just hope the whirr/click sound of my lens and camera didn't take away from the atmosphere for the others on the ride. I know it didn't bug DD - she's very used to it :lmao:

THe dSLR is a good investment and you can get the "older-style" 8Megapixel Rebel XT that I use for around $450 on Amazon with the basic lens (18-55MM). The camera itself does everything you need at entry level and like I've said - it's all about the lenses.

Most of my action/low-light stuff is taken with one lens that ran me about another $500, but you can still get REALLY good shots with the basic lens. Okay, dSLR recruiting pitch over ...hehehe.

Yup, lets hear it for the camera geeks fiddling with their cameras :rotfl:

I'll see if I can get some more of the day posted in an hour or so.

The photopass pics were a lifesaver as far as documenting their day there. DD11 is still bummed about forgetting her camera :( They still had a really fun day and did a LOT of stuff!

The DHS day was a lot of fun - just having the daddy/daughter time was very cool. Yeah, 6 times back to back. My head was ok but my stomach was giving me signals that it was going to get unhappy if we kept it up.

Well, I take good pictures but tend to not be ready for being in them - lol. I was really happy that some of those inside shots came out. For some reason I thought it would be hard to get the characters in the hallway ...that whole "catching ghosts on camera" thing :lmao:

More to be posted today! :woohoo:
