Hi,
I'm new to this forum. Looks like fun!! I started Atkins at the beginning of this month and have lost 13lbs so far. I really like the Atkins diet a lot!! :teeth: My goal is to lose 100lbs, so I'm 13% there, hee hee!

I hate traditional exercise, other than walking, but am trying a couple of different things this time around. I have some bellydance fitness tapes that are a hoot but are also a pretty good workout (for my pathetic fitness level at least). I also bought Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) for my computer and the dance mats and just started playing with that last night. It was definitely fun. Might not be a pretty sight  (I'm 35 and quite overweight), but I'm keeping the blinds closed and having a blast anyway!! I never even thought about DDR (it is that dancing game a lot of teens like to play in the arcade) as being potential exercise, then saw a video game countdown my 11yo was watching, and there was a young woman who lost 95lbs playing DDR without even dieting!! Worth a try I figure. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Looking forward to getting to know some of you better. I'm serious about making this change in my lifestyle so I'm planning to be around for the long-haul. And I'm Disney crazy like the rest of you, so I think I've found the right place! :earsgirl:

I'm going on the 3 day cruise on the Wonder next week (holy cow that's close!), and I am not going to Atkins on it. The food on the ship is too much of the experience to limit myself that much, at least in my opinion. I am staying on on the way down and the way back though. I'm planning on going right back into induction the Sunday we get off the ship though and try to get back into ketosis as soon as possible. I'm also not going to go absolutely crazy while I'm on there. I'll be eating more carbs but not excessive amounts of food (I hope!).

You guys on Atkins may already know this, but if not I just wanted to tell you that if you eat out much, Ruby Tuesday's has a great low-carb menu now! Really great! Also, for something fast, the Subway Atkins-friendly wrap is really, really yummy! I actualy like it better than their subs!

Well, I better get back to work. ;) Looking forward to hanging out more with you guys later! I'm also interested in the W.I.S.H walk, so will have to check out some info on that later!!

Hi Lori:wave2: and welcome to WISH! We're so glad you've decided to join us! Congratulations and a big WOO HOO! to you on your 13 pound loss! What a great job you're doing! I didn't lose my weight (110 pounds, now maintaining) on Atkins, but there are many here who are following it and getting excellent results! I know they'll have a lot of great info. and opinions for you on how to get the most out of your Atkins plan! Please feel free to ask away whether you need advice on Atkins, exercise or just need some motivation or a hug! This is a great board where you'll find so much support and caring from people who are doing all different kinds of weight loss plans. We're all here for each other and you! Please stop by often--I'll be looking forward to your posts, and can't wait to see how you progress!:grouphug:

YEAH! You're off to an AWESOME start! Enjoy the cruise and come back planning another one with your new self! And I highly encourage the walking (along with all the dancing/aerobics) but I've made walking 90% of my workouts- and have gone from 236 to 177 in 8 months- I've signed up to walk the 1/2 marathon with a large group of WISH'ers- the goal alone is helping me hit my weight goal of 140's! It can be done and walking is the least abusive form of exercise to help you lose weight without a high risk of injury when you're carrying more (and it nicely trims your waist, too!) Keep up the GREAT work- you're well on your way to being a GREAT LOSER!!!

Tara

Thanks Tara! I went ahead and checked out the W.I.S.H. walk information and I'm really excited by the idea! I went ahead and checked out one of the marathon walker links and found a training schedule that looks really reasonable. I'm not going to sign up for the 1/2 marathon quite yet, but I want to train for two months and see how I'm progressing and feeling and will hopefully sign up around the end of March.

Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss!! :jumping1: You must be feeling so great! I haven't been below 200lbs in almost 12 years. I keep thinking about how awesome that is going to feel!!! You're quite a bit below that now, but was it a huge deal to you when you got below 200?

Thanks again for the welcome and the encouragement!!

lbrat4: welcome to WISH and congrats on getting rid of the first 13%!

I'm doing Atkins also. I had great success with this plan in 1999 (lost 30 lbs easily in about 2 1/2 months! then put it back on when our Dr. told us eating that way would harm our health. Needless to say - the 30 lbs came back with "friends"). The weight and inches are much slower to move away this time but I'm not giving up.

I know that food is a great part of any vacation, especially a cruise. But in order to keep losing and maintain your hard-earned loss, you have to make changes to your eating and exercise habits for life. So I think that the first thing you should do is let your servers know that you are on a low-carb diet. They should assist you in making slight changes to your meals that keep you on plan and make sure you don't feel deprived in any way. You may not be able to hit 20 carbs per day - but staying under 60 (which is much better than the American norm of over 300) is completely doable.

My DH and I have found that most restaurants will bendover backwards to put together meals that are completely within the Atkins plan (no extra charge). Many restaurants have a sugar-free desert offering is you just ask.

You can meet your health goals. Have a wonderful time on your vacation.

Hi Lori:wave2: I'm not on Atkins but I just wanted to say welcome and congratulations on your amazing weight loss!!

Hi Lori! :wave2: Welcome to WISH!! Congratulations on the first 13 pounds!! It's pretty good to be able to say you've met 13% of your goal in under a month!! Way to go! :bounce: I also think it's great that you've found a way to make exercise fun! It'll be so much easier to get into the exercise habit that way!!

Congratulations on a super beginning! Have fun and enjoy your vacation and then get right back down to business. With a great attitude like yours, you're sure to be a big loser!! :D

Welcome to the WISH Board!! We are glad you are here! Congratulations on your 13 pound loss!! That is wonderful!! We have a great group of people on this board who are always so supporting and helpful, so jump right in if you have any questions! :)

Thanks you guys! You're great!!

Laurie, you are right about the cruise. I am making plans to avoid a lot of carbs including not eating any bread, sticking to sugar free desserts, etc. I'm also hoping there won't be any problem if I ask for a smaller portion of some of the dishes I want to try but don't want to eat much of. I definitely don't want to go "overboard" (ha ha!) on carbs while I'm there, but this is also my vacation and something I've been looking forward to so long (and paying a lot of money for), so I'm consciously making a decision to step out of induction for those 3 days. I'm working extra hard this week! I've kept my carbs between 15-17g daily and have really been exercising! So hopefully, the cruise will only cause a small stall from me being out of ketosis. Thanks for looking out for me though!!

Hi Lori and welcome,

Congrats on loosing the 13 lbs so far! I am glad you found us, WISH is just the best tool for helping you stay focused and ontrack. I don't think I would be as successful without all these wonderful people. I hope you decide to join us for the 1/2 marathon. It's going to be so much fun. I look forward to getting fit in 2004, and what better way to do it with a trip to DISNEY to celebrate and do something I never thought I would, or could do!

Again Welcome!
