I'm losing 231 points

I am aware that I can pay cash. My hope was to pay for one person with the points so that we could afford to go. And get use out of those points.

As for booking somewhere else - I have no interest in booking a resort until I know that parks are open. Why book a vacation for August when I will likely just be in the same position in just a few months? Also - I have two adult children that travel with us. One is a college student and one is a teacher so our travel dates are limited. As this point, I just plan to take the loss and move on.

I understand you’re upset- I would be too, but take these suggestions. You have many options to still use your points for a great vacation. Call member services and book a moderate or value hotel in August. Do it soon- resorts will fill up with people itching to get back to Disney. You’ll have an amazing trip

How are you losing them if they are good until 2021.
It turns out if you do nothing you lose them. Seriously, I wish this person the best but they only get ‘screwed’ if they want that to happen. The dream vacation can’t be booked, but there are several options way better than losing them that require little effort. I imagine they will figure this out eventually.

We will all lose points if we don't do something about it. I have 2019 points banked into 2020 that we probably won't be able to use at WDW because the banking restrictions mean we can't borrow enough points for a 2021trip so we will push to 2022. Last night I found at least 3 good options I can do at home in Scotland in 2021 through RCI so they won't go to waste. Where there is a will there is a way. WDW will be there later once this is all done.

So frustrated. We need to cancel our Aulani vacation for this May. Because I'm a March use year and not April, those points have to be used by March 2021. Can't use them to pay for the 2021 member cruise. Can't book a vacation because nothing is open. I'm getting penalized for nothing. Not a happy camper right now. That's a crap load of money.

I've got 129 from a canceled Polynesian Resort Reservation that I should have checked into today. With an August use year I have until 7/31/20 to use or lose them. Since they aren't opening tomorrow my best guess is they won't open until June which will give me roughly 60 days in the middle of an unknown and possible second wave of corona so I won't feel comfortable using them. At least you've got almost an entire year and the likelihood that there will be a working plan in place by then.

Are these points banked 2018? Or your 2019? They have said that if a reservation is canceled due to the closure, and it includes Aug UY 2019 points, they will now allow them to be banked late.

If they are 2018 that you had already banked, then those will have to be used.

2019- I must have missed that announcement - THANKYOU! Do I need to call?

I am not sure you have to call, but you might want to confirm that it will happen.

From what being reported, it won’t happen until around June 5th, and there are inconsistent reports as to whether you will be able to book with them online.

Thanks I did just call. My 2019 points were all banked. The 129 points are 2018. She said that August is the next use year (after June) and they have not yet determined whether or not they will allow 6 months to use those points, but that will likely be decided soon.

The other option is that we can bank them into RCI by 6/17 and then we will have up to 2 years to use them. We may take that option as we live in Central FL and have been using RCI to visit NH in the summer for the past 3 years.

Our reservation for May 14th was just cancelled by MS. Last night the reservation was there, this morning the reservation is gone and the points are back. The 128 banked points from 2018 now show as 2019 points on the member website.
We did not get an email informing us of the cancellation, I just saw it when I logged into the member website. Is that typical?

Hopefully DVC will make a decision on whether to extend those points before the June 17th RCI deadline.

Is this a new announcement regarding August UY? I haven't seen that added to the statement on the DVC website page.

this was part of the last announcement:

  • Members with later Use Years should follow normal banking guidelines to bank their current Use Year Vacation Points. If a reservation was cancelled due to the Resort closure after the Member’s banking window, an exception will be made to bank the allotted Points associated with that reservation.

Thank you, had to go back and clearly missed it when I read it when it was released.

You could rent them and recoup some $. There are openings for the WDW resorts.

We rented out our Aulani points within DAYS of listing them with the DVC Store. You might get equally as lucky!

We had to cancel our Aulani trip also and have points expiring in March 2021 as well - we rebooked at Aulani for September but have no idea if it will happen. We are new owners of a resale contract and this was to be our first trip. Talk about a whirlwind and no clue what I am doing. Just hoping I don’t mess up and lose the points. Can someone tell me if we can do the RCI thing as a last resort if we have resale points? And who do we contact to do that - RCI? I can’t even imagine trying to sell my points since I am new to the game! I hope you can find a way to utilize yours because I know it will suck to lose them altogether!

Yes, as resale you are still eligible for RCI. However, with March 2020 points that don’t expire until the last day of Feb 2021, you have time to cancel and bank those points. RCI would be a last resort IMO.

The window for RCI is 45 days prior to expiration so you have a ways to go,

If you decide you can use them prior to expiration, then you call MS and they will do it for you.

Thanks - we have 150 that were banked into 2020 so we can’t bank those again. We have a total of 300 right now sitting in our MARCH 2020 use year. Worse case I was thinking about banking the 150 that can be and then doing something with the 2019 banked points that would expire- just wanted to know all my options! I am sure I am getting my lingo wrong! sad part is if we can’t make Aulani work this use year it may not happen for awhile with limits on borrow as we need 300 points to go for our family!

Someone else mentioned Hawaii locations that worked for them through RCI? Might be worth checking into as a back-up plan? Good Luck!
