We knew we wanted to go somewhere for Christmas Day, but we were open to anywhere Southwest goes. I looked at the cost for pretty much every city and found MCO was pretty low for our getaway dates. I was still kinda uncertain about it with the high room rates and the major crowds, but then I got to poking around on here.

NOW I'M SO EXCITED!!!

We're flying in early Christmas Eve - so the entire day will be spent exploring Fort Wilderness. I hear there may be a golf cart parade that day! Chip and Dale! Fishing! Swimming! Oh my!

Christmas Day at the Magic Kingdom - I know it will be beyond packed. We'll arrive early and really just want to see the parade, castle lighting and fireworks. We are going in knowing that rides will not be doable and hopefully we'll get to meet a few characters during the day. The expectations will be all about enjoying Christmas at Disney!

The next day will be a field trip around on the monorail - I must see that gingerbread house and some more fun at the campground. Then we'll take ME to the airport about 3:30 to head back to reality.

We have tickets for three of us so we'll only need to buy one park ticket. The airfare was on points and the campsite was a bit over $200 for the two nights. I think we're going to pull this off for under $500 even after food and snacks!

Did I mention that I'm SO EXCITED?!?!?!

I'm so excited for you and your family and fun exploring and all the Christmas decorations.pixiedust:

Even a little bit of the Fort and Disney is wonderful. Christmas is 10X the fun. Enjoy and have a safe trip.

For the OP:

I see you've been a member of the DIS for over 5 years and have over 400 posts. Have you stayed primarily in the resort hotels?

We love the Fort and try to help each other out. So welcome to the Camping Board! :welcome: :disrocks:

PS - I love Southwest Airlines. It's my favorite....

1) You might have had it right the first time.
2) Once you "get into" The Fort, it is hard to go elsewhere.
3) Either way . . . . . WELCOME TO "THE CLUB" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been a Pop Century girl for almost a decade. I haven't really ever even looked on this board. You all have a passion for FW. I hope we love it! Your excitement is contagious!

Sidenote - This is even my second username because I locked myself out of my first one and I couldn't figure out how to get back into it.

@IndianaPrincess I think you may be more excited than me and I've been waiting for 2 years for my trip back!

I'm arriving in the evening on Christmas Eve, after the possible parade I found about long after booking. Darn my "let's book my flight at not 6 am for once" thinking. My folks will be there already in their camper.

Last time I was at the fort there were turkeys everywhere and it was snowing in Tallahassee. It was a little weird and chilly! Definitely looking forward to absorbing the atmosphere at Christmas and New Years.

(Wondering if there still turkeys roaming around...)

The turkeys still roam. We were in loop 1500 back in March 2012 and they came thru there every afternoon.
