I'm hearing lyrics in my head - Ally McBeal style

You know like on Ally McBeal where she'd have a strong emotion and then a song would pop in her head and the lyrics would always be EXACTLY the words she was thinking?

Well, I have had this for at least the past 4-5 years and it's driving me CRAZY! Everytime I have a strong emotion (usually anger) I get a song dropped into the jukebox. At first, I dismissed it and really didn't get it. Then I started listening to the song playing in my head and realize the lyrics matched what had just happened. As in, to a tee!!

Sometimes, I don't even get to hear the lyrics with the song in my head, and a lot of times I don't know the name of the song right away either. But finally when I figure out the song name and hit the internet to get the lyrics, they are SPOT on. Yes, you read that right... It's sometimes songs I barely know or don't know the words to (at least cognitively, I can't recall them) so I have to search the web to get the lyrics. The song won't go away until I figure out the message of the lyrics.

It's so WEIRD to have this. Like I said, it started when my marriage turned bad and we fight all the time. Most of the songs are about leaving or about starting a new life. They stay in my head until I figure out the words to the song.

I've only told a few people about it. One thinks it's an AWESOME talent and is jealous (:rotfl2: ) Another dear friend thinks it's angels giving me messages. This freaked me out because it started right after I lost a baby at 22 weeks, and she is a metaphysical 'healer' as a side job. She's convinced it's the angel of my lost baby trying to guide me.:sad1:

Can anyone relate to this? Did it ever go away? Does it drive you NUTS?!?

I love Ally McBeal!

And I think you just have a lot of songs in your head, even though you might not always remember exactly the song, your brain remembers the lyrics. :) Our entire family is very musical and the joke in our family is that Grandmom can sing a line from a song to fit any moment...and often does. :)

Not the same, but may be kind of like you feel. I have been reading alot more than usual. After I finish reading I walk around like I am an author in my head. Telling commentary about my surroundings or how I feel, and I can't shut it off, it is sorta annoying.

OMG I know exactly what you mean. That intuition we often ignore and should totally listen to. One of the biggest mistakes of my life "There is no Arizona" was on repeat in my head!

I've prone to this too, only I sometimes get a song that's completely unrelated to that emotion. The mind works in mysterious ways. And when you mentioned Ally McBeal, I thought of this and immediately heard "Hooked on a Feeling":
