I'm having a Yard Sale This Weekend...Anyone Else?

what's the best way to deter stealing?? It's all gonna wind up gone and i'm prepared for bargaining. So if people need to go that low, then they must've needed it a lot more than me.

i found some painters tape which i think will work great for pricing items. And i might try to find some paper bags. I threw a whole bunch in the recycling bin from the old apartment, and now i wish i had hung onto them. But i'd like to set it up so it's not a big problem. It might only be me out there, i'm hoping my cousin will help out, she's a great yard seller.

I'm thinking a couple different sodas, water chugs, and capri sun. I'll have to watch myself, and not drink all of the capri suns. Is there any other popular drink for yard sales? That i can sell at 50-75cents and still make a profit?

We made about 500.00 Yesterday - Very happy lots went! We are having it again today, most most of our bigger items went like 2 bikes...hoping to get rid of the kids books i have SO many..also the cloths i want to go!

We were supposed to have one today but canceled it because of the thunder. They are predicting thunderstorms here pretty much all day. :sad1: Now we need to sit down and pick a new date. It's 3 families and it was hard enough picking this one! I may have to do it myself because I'd like the money to go towards Disney in July.

My son made a big jug of lemonade (lemon juice, sugar, water plus cups & ice) which he sold for .50 a cup and it sold out 2 times. He also sold cookies at .50 each and had a variety of flavors.

our small complex had one this weekend... i was out for 4 hours on friday and 5 hours on saturday. didn't have a whole bunch to put out, but i made $275. i was gonna be happy with $75, lol. it is going toward our flights for november :)

:woohoo:

We did really well. We only had the garage sale from 8-12 and made over 600.00. All of our big stuff sold, I packed the trunk with the small stuff and donated what was left. I am glad... it will be less to unpack when we move in 3 weeks!:cool1:

wow, you all are making me envious. I hope i can make that much. This has to make up for 3 weeks of not working.

Good thing you didn't have your yard sale this weekend, Sandra. I'm in Dallas too and the temps were brutal! Next weekend looks to be at least a few degrees cooler. Good luck :thumbsup2

ETA: The city of Dallas does have an ordinance that states that signs aren't allowed except on your own private property:

A sign advertising the sale can only be placed on the property were the sale is occurring. Garage sale signs may not be placed on property other than where the garage sale is occurring. No signs are permitted in the right-of-way or in the median. Signs placed other than on the property where the sale is occurring may be removed and/or ticketed.

But I know this rule is ignored quite a bit. I see signs all the time in the medians or on the side of the road.

If you're in a suburb of Dallas, it's possible their laws are different.
