now the kids are telling on each other - "my brother hit me in the leg" so what does that have to do with a library? Ahhhhh
and the family from h--- just arrived - they all scream for my attention at once - i finally told them that i cant listen to all of them - what happened to kids manners these days?

Sounds like you have a fun time ahead of you these next few weeks before school starts. Need some advil now?

thank you
well at least it's a shorter day today cos I have to work 3hrs tomorrow so at 130 Im outta here

Again, I blame large day care centers. I think these kids learn to yell and scream to get attention, and thier parents don't know how to stop it. We comment about that kind of behaviour a lot these days. We can't honestly remember our kids EVER shrieking about anything! I just don't remember it ever being an issue at all! I also know that the kids who have a stay at home parent are not likely to do this.

Sounds to me like they got too many rewards during the school year. :D

Sounds like you are having a "Calgon, take me away" type day!:)

How about wearing a clown costume to work?? When DS was younger he was so scared of clowns he wouldn't say a word when they were around. And not the Bozo type either. You need to get one that looks ike the clown from the Stephen King movie...can't think of it's name..pennywhistle??

Have a great day! :) My 2 are driving me nuts (it's yucky here too) so we're off to Toys R Us (looking - no buying!), the pet store (looking - no buying!) and then to the i party to find something for the Jimmy Buffet concert next weekend. Ah my life is full... :)

Oh - It can't be that busy!

You seem to have lots of time to post on the DIS. :p :p

That's pretty funny, because most of the kids I know that exhibit this kind of behavior ARE kids with a SAHM.

Most of the kids that act like this have parents who haven't done a good job teaching manners or considerate behavior whether they are SAHM, SAHD, or day care.

Perhaps the children have developmental issues that aren't apparent. A friend of mine has a daughter with such issues--- her little mind can't handle certain stimuli and she starts screaming in frustration. It is very sad. She needs to be comforted when this happens and not scared or yelled at.

It was 10:15 am when IGTD posted about these kids. Since when do daycare workers bring all the kids to the library? Looks to me like all those screaming kids are at the library with their SAHM's. Screaming has nothing to do with whether or not a parent stays at home vs. daycare; it has to do with discipline, which can be accomplished by working parents, believe it or not.

I guess I'll accept that reason. Do you think it has to do with permisivness or lack of time with them?

I certainly hope your day got better, sweetie. {{{HUGS}}}

Permissiveness? Yes. I know it's not the PC thing and that in this day and age, I'll get slammed for it, but I still believe in a good whack across the butt every now and then if needed, to get the point across. Most parents I see with screaming kids scream right back at their kids, or they threaten them with ridiculous things that the child *knows* they will never do (If you don't shut up, I'll cut your tongue out!). Yes, I actually heard someone say that to her child in the grocery store.

Lack of time? Maybe not lack of quantity time; more a lack of quality time with each child.

I was a divorced mom and sometimes worked two jobs; once I worked three at one time. My child was never a screamer nor did he run around in public. He was well behaved because he knew I meant business when I told him to get in line. I spent alot of one on one time with him whenever possible. I read to him alot, and as often as possible we sat at the table together to eat our meals and talked.

I think it also has something to do with lack of respect and the teaching thereof. Many children aren't taught respect of others or themselves!
