I'm gonna go out on a limb and ask...

For me it's just the little things done by either CM or other guests. I've had other guests help me walk when I broke a toe on my son's shoe, I had a CM on the same trip run and get me a wheel chair when I was standing in line because I just looked uncomfortable. Last trip we were on the special safari at AKL and they give you a little gift bag at the end with some chocolate and a pin. I was with DS and DIL, the couple we were sitting across from at dinner had three kids and the couple only got two bags so a kid would have to go without a pin, DIL gave them hers, I'm sure they felt a little dust. I've been solo and at TS had chef's send out an ap. just because and not charge for it.

I have 2 examples. Both could be seen as Pixie Dust, or because of other circumstances.

First is at POR, our assigned room was in the Bayou area. We ideally wanted to stay in Magnolia Bend and had made a Checkin Request for one, and asked if there was a chance to be moved. The CM made a call, and we were assigned a Royal Room which the CM mentioned was an upgrade for free. - It was more than likely that there were no non-Royal rooms left, and they had space to be able to move us to Magnolia Bend and were avoiding a complaint. At the time we didn't complain (obviously), we were delighted, and it did make us feel good to get 'more' for our money.

The Second is a ASMo, we had some spare spending money and only had one night booked. At checkin we asked if we were able to upgrade to a Mod or Deluxe for the night. The CM again made a call, and they were able to move us to CBR with no extra charge. Again, we were delighted, but if I think back, we paid full rack rate for ASMo and it could well have been that was the same as that day's price at CBR.

I think there are often genuine Pixie Dust situations, but sometimes they are able to do things that are within policy but it makes the guest feel good and didn't cost the company any more money.

Also the days when someone would give you a FP they couldn't use was nice. At DLR we were outside BTM when a lady and her daughter asked us if we wanted to use their disability pass with them as there was only the two of them out of 4 that had APs. That was really nice of them and I'll not forget it.

Towel animals on my bed after returning from the parks. If I don't see them, I immediately run out in the hallways and scream and stomp my feet slowly making my way to the Beach Club lobby. Then I fall to ground and re-enact Marlon Brando's scene "Stellaaaaaaaaaaaa" (except I scream Towel Animalllllllllllllllllllllls).

Disney Pixie Dust and Disney Magic are all those things (and its not the same for everyone) that Walt put into all his projects, cartons, TV, movies and Parks, that bring those smiles and tear of delight to the kids, the joy that make them feel magic and joy meeting the characters, the Disney stories and attractions. It also is what happens to adults, when we discover we all have that bit of a child in us and the joy comes out when at Disney.

Disney Pixie Dust and Magic can only be found at Disney and it far out shines anything anywhere else.

Thanks Uncle Walt

When the adults at the rope for parade offer to let my kids squeeze in next to them so they can see better and interact with characters.

When my kid is one of the kids handed a Goofy Candy Co sucker during a parade... And then AGAIN aNd he gives it to the deer kid next to him who is empty handed.

A room upgrade.

A family tapping our shoulder saying they're gettivg up to leave in a busy QS place while we are searching high and low for a table we will all fit at.

Coming home with approximately a million Mickey stickers for free.

The other possibility, as I've learned from the other thread, is that something happened to make your studio unavailable, and the cast member was hoping to avoid an argument by just quietly upgrading you without your knowledge.

Because it's entirely possible you might have really, really wanted that studio. :)

Kind of like how my husband and I always try to get a standard room at Pop, so we can request a lake view in the 60s building. An upgrade to pool view would not be appreciated, as that would possibly stick us out in the 90s, staring at a pool instead of a lovely lake.

I'm really glad your upgrade turned out to be as magical as the cast member no doubt prayed it would! :)

I didn't know that. Do you think I can get them to put on my file "always happy to be moved to a "better" room if you need me to"??! ;) I'd never complain about being given more space!! The view worries me less as I spend so little time looking at it, but having more room to unpack and not feel cramped in is always welcome!!

Different things matter to different people. In a recent thread a gentleman was offered an upgrade at the Grand Floridian from a club level king to a club level suite. But he was just there to celebrate his anniversary with his wife. Having an extra bedroom sitting empty would have just been a constant reminder that they'd left the kids at home. So he asked the cm to pass the pixie dust on to some other couple.

Hey, it could very well be that the room you got was offered to someone else before you! :)

Resort staff try hard to fill as many rooms as they can each night. Smaller rooms are more easily sold to walk-ins, which is why sometimes you get upgraded at check-in.

Something that happens to you that is totally unexpected and makes you feel special.....can be anything from big to small.

At DL we were selected as the Family of the Day in Toon Town and got to participate in the opening ceremony...and once DW was selected to open the park at DL when she was on a solo trip.

Those things were pretty cool and were magical for us.pixiedust:

I've read posts where people claim 'pixie dust' but I'm like 'huh?' To me, finding an empty table is not pixie dust. Getting the last seat on 7DMT is not pixie dust. Having a CM do something beyond the general job description is pixie dust in my household.

See... to me anything that makes the trip a bit more special, fun, relaxing, enjoyable, or magical can be considered pixie dust.
