I don't recall ever seeing anything on the Dis about this.

On one of my visits to the Fort in the mid-nineties, I recall that Clementine's Beach was all set up for the filming of a television show. BTW, Clementine's Beach is the name of the large beach area on Bay Lake closest to the River Country entrance.

The show that they were filming was called Sandblast. It was a show on MTV in 1994-1996. This is during the time that MTV started to morph from a TV channel that played music videos into what we know it as today.

This was also before Disney owned ABC, and CBS owned MTV. I don't think MTV would be permitted to tape anything on Disney property now.

So, using my rudimentary sleuthing skills, I have scoured the world wide web trying to find information about this show. I found a single photo, which was actually on the web-site of a company that apparently built a piece of the television camera equipment for the show. Here is the photo:

I think that is Discovery Island in the background.

Here is some of the text that was on that website:

Orlando, Fl. Chapman's new ATB (All Terrain Base), along with the Lenny Arm III, is currently being used on MTV'S Sandblast. The new show is being filmed at Walt Disney World's "Fort Wilderness." Fifty episodes are scheduled to be filmed there. The theme is on outdoor sports activities and competition with a MTV twist. Teams are male and female competing in various water and beach sporting events.

Here is a description of the show from another website:

An MTV "fun-in-the-sun" show with two-person teams competing in events such as freestyle swimming, sand bike races, hose hockey, beach soccer and other games, all dressed in skimpy swimsuits. Surfer Peter King hosted with Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders until she was replaced by actress Kari Wuhrer.

There are also some video clips of the show at various sites. I don't know if posting links to these is permitted, but you can find a clip of the opening sequence. It shows some quick flashes of the Ft. Wilderness beach.

So, do any of you old timers remember anything about this?

That was before my Fort Wilderness camping times but I have to say I would not be a happy camper to see that mess on the beach. Do they still play music on 'M'TV?

Another show that was filmed at Fort Wilderness was the 70's version of the Mickey Mouse Club (one episode). I should go look and see if they have that on Netflix.

I 100% REMEMBER this show, I used to watch it all the time on MTV and loved the fact that it took place at Fort Wilderness.

Quite a few times when we were at the Fort we would see it being setup, it actually was a pretty decent show, it was all fun in the sun. They would hav big slides, rope slides, they had some really cool challenges.

Man, I haven't thought about that show in ages, but to be honest, not that many people used that area of the beach anyways, and it was kind of cool seeing the setup when you would walk by. It was all done very professionally, and it only took up about probably half of the beach area.

So yea, I remember that show definitely, that was back when I used to watch a lot more MTV though. The show was actually really popular with the younger crowd back than, I was surprised when it was cancelled, some minor "reality TV" stars came out of that show at the time.

Anything that allows me to view the Fort on TV I'm always happy to see....lol

My wife and I loved that show. I do remember that Summer Sanders was one of the hosts as well. Cool info.

Wasn't there another tv show filmed on Bay Lake?..Now don't think I'm crazy but I'm thinking Hulk Hogan was in it..back in the 90's:happytv: ...and you always saw the Grand Floridian in the background.

You might be thinking of Thunder in Paradise, a TV show he was on that was probably his longest running ( I think it did 17 episodes or something like that). It was filmed in the Florida area for quite a few of the episodes (he lives in Florida), so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some Disney stuff in there.

The first episode was filmed in Tampa after that it was filmed at Discover Islnad and Epcot and MGM and around Magic Kingdom. It ran from 93-94 only 1 season and it was canned after that.

ahhhh - the hidious thunder in paradise perhaps????

Ya I provided a lin ka couple posts up and if you scroll halfway down the page you will find a clip you can play it shows Epcot the Grand Floridian and Poly and a small tidbit of Discovery Island at teh very beginning.

I used to watch that show from time to time, it wasn't ALL that bad, for what it was.

It's amazing that some of us actually can remember that show (sorry F4Disney, I had posted before your post became active so I didn't see you had already answered the question :P).

And yea, I remember now some Disney stuff appearing in the background.

Only one season, but 17 episodes of THE HULK!!!! lol ;)

Ahh...so I'm not crazy..! I remember because the wrestling thing was starting back then and my older son had those crazy rubber wrestlers and the ring. We also started going to Disney back in 91 with the entire family. (Although we had visits with just my older son back in '86) I remember seeing the GF in the background!
Thanks for the links:thumbsup2

Ok...I'll be the minority here...I used to love Thunder in Paradise!!! It could be because we watched it being filmed at FW once, and we also watched them film at Epcot on that same trip. :happytv:

I loved the boat they had, that thing was just so cool, it's was like the boat version of Knight Riders KIT....lol

Hey, no cracking on the Hulkster! We were practically neighbors (well, at least we were in the same county), until he moved to South Florida.

Bringing up Thunder in Paradise reminded me of another 90's TV show that was partially filmed at WDW: Seaquest DSV. Anyone remember that one? I remember that one of the exterior shots used the Contemporary hotel as a backdrop, complete with the monorail going through. This was supposed to depict the future, and I think that the Contemporary was supposed to be a government building of some type. I remember thinking it was pretty lame that they were using a building that was then about 20 years old as a futuristic backdrop! I don't remember much else about the show, except that it was really weird- you know UFO's, talking dolphins, that kind of 90's TV stuff.

Yep I remember this show I didn't watch it often but I did see it now and then.

Yep, remember that show as well, that one lasted a lot longer and was more popular than the Hulk show. Didn't the kid who starred in that die a few years ago? At least I thought I had heard something about that.

Colson- I really don't even remember any of the actors from the show, but you are correct about one of the young stars passing on. Found this on the CNN website with a dateline of 11/24/03:

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Jonathan Brandis, who from an early age appeared in a string of roles on television, commercials and film, including the starring role in 1991's "The Neverending Story 2: The Next Chapter" and two seasons on Steven Spielberg's "SeaQuest DSV," has died. He was 27.

The county coroner's office is investigating the November 12 death, which was reported by the Los Angeles Police Department as a possible suicide, Lt. Ed Winter of the coroner's Investigations Bureau said Thursday.

The coroner performed an autopsy but the cause of death will not be announced until the results of blood and toxicology tests are returned. The investigation could take as long as four to six weeks.

Police said a friend of Brandis called 911 from the actor's apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report Brandis had attempted suicide. Paramedics transported Brandis to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he died the next day, police Detective Gene Parshall said.

The office of Brandis' agent at Innovative Artists refused to comment.

Brandis started his career in commercials and on television, landing a recurring role on the soap "One Life to Live" at age six. After moving with his family to Los Angeles at age nine, he made guest appearances on such shows as "L.A. Law," "Who's the Boss?" and "Murder, She Wrote."

Other film credits included the Rodney Dangerfield comedy "Ladybugs," and the martial arts comedy "Sidekicks" with Chuck Norris, and a small part in the 2002 film "Hart's War," starring Bruce Willis.

Brandis also starred as crew member Lucas Wolenczek in the underwater sci-fi series "SeaQuest DSV," a role that garnered him a Young Artists Award in 1993 and helped turn him into a teen idol.

You don't think in was one of the amoebas from the lake that did this, do you?
