I have yet to hear a firm date on completion. But keep this in mind as with any project it could go longer.........
or could go shorter depending on a lot of variables I'm betting it opens before july because of the simple fact that they always budget more time for a project then it should actually take........
Siince this is not a NEW ride there is no reason to wait for a certain date to "OPEN" or reveal...LOL

who knows could be open in june you never know!

This is what we are hoping. We will be there June 2006 and would miss going on POTC

Hey everyone!

I'm a CP and know a lot of people at MK since that's where I work, on Splash to be specific, and I'll definitely check it out to get the correct info.

Any ride rehabs I thought were on the official website 6 months in advance. I know that for a fact since Splash was down almost 2 weeks ago and I had to talk to the upset Guests who didn't see it online, see the huge poster outside MK, and fail to notice that there was NO WATER at all in the flume - we drained it all out. I just don't understand some Guests.

Oh, and just to let you know...

Get your cameras ready because there's going to be a Captain Jack Sparrow face character! I went to face auditions (I had to decline an Aurora/Cindy role... I was upset about Aurora since she's my favorite but I could care less about Cindy) and the lady who taught me the short dance told me about the addition of a CJS character to get pictures with. Goodie!!!

My 8 yr old dd will be so happy to see Jack!! She loves him!!

Ironic! The movie was created after the ride, and now the ride will change to be created more like the movie. :confused3

Initially I was going to whine about the PoC renovations. I love that ride, have loved it since I was a kid, and don't particularly like change. New attractions, yes. Changing old attractions, no. But, the Intercot article makes it seem as if the essence of PoC will remain the same and since the new characters will be woven into some of what is already there and the special effects improved, even I must admit that it sounds like it could be really great! :thumbsup2 We were going to go to MK on March 1, but now we'll go one day early so that we can ride the old PoC one last time...

I am going to miss it my next trip too :( I love POTC, I love that they are changing it, but wish they would wait till after my trip lol.

Pirates is a great ride, and I'm sort of sad and anxious that they are changing it....I like the one that's there now....they should just add onto it to update for the new movie, not change what's there already....

From what I understand they are just adding to what is already there, just incorporating some new animatronics and effects into what is already there.

Now THERE'S a character meal I would enjoy - dinner with Captain Jack Sparrow (but it has to be Johnny Depp). :lovestruc

Heard it on our local news Friday. POC will be closed this spring and reopen along with the POC 2 movie opening. They said that it is going to resemble the movie. Yes, with Jack Sparrow.

I am so disappointed they are re-furbishing POC! I read on allears that they are refurbishing to coinside (man I wish this had spellcheck) with the release of the new Pirates on July 7. We leave WDW on the 5th so I'm hoping for a sneak preview or a 'soft' opening. Sounds like it should be great. Any attraction that is adding Captain Jack Sparrow can't be bad. pirate:

I'm not sure if the OP is happy or unhappy with the change. The post begins with "I am so disappointed ...", but a few sentences later says "it should be great" and "Any attraction that is adding Captain Jack Sparrow can't be bad." :scratchin

I'm sad that i'm going to miss going on the ride also. But if they are adding new stuff than I can wait. That was my favorite ride in Adventureland.

I have been on ALL of the websites so now I can't remember where I read what, but I THOUGHT I saw somewhere that the official dates for the WDW Pirates rehab were March 1 - June 30, reopening on July 1. Did anybody else see that? Does anybody happen to remember WHERE that might have been posted? :confused3
I dunno about THAT, but I saw this thread and screamed, as we will be in WDW the first week in May, so I ran to check the official WDW website. There are no mentionings of Pirates being closed for any rehab at all, anytime.

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...ng/index?id=CalendarRefurbishmentsListingPage <--just click on any month, and it will show you what refurbishments are going on in MK. I clicked on May, which is when we're going, and there were no refurbishments scheduled at all.

Ok, am I missing something? I've been on the website and there's still no info about POC being in Rehab at WDW. I'm going in April/May with four 1st timers, so I'm really hoping the info is wrong. Also, it is kinda a shame that they are changing it...much as I LOVED the movie ....because this was Walt's last ride.

On our Keys to the Kingdom tour a week ago, our guide told us there are many rumors floating around about POTC and adding a Jack Sparrow and so forth, but he 'couldn't confirm anything'. :confused3

He also said he thought management was in a quandry because adding a Johnny Depp Sparrow would mean re-doing the old animitronics....which is sentimental for many guests. He also said that after the first movie, attendance for that ride went up, but then dropped as soon as the movie ran its course.

Personally I'd love to see a Depp Sparrow character added to the mix.

Let me clarify for you. I am disappointed it will be down while I am there THIS YEAR. I think it will be a great addition and I look forward to riding it in the FUTURE. I just wish it wasn't down during summer!

I understand change is good, but I can't help being a little sad-I rode Pirates for the first time in 1966 at Disneyland. I have loved it ever since.
