This trip falls right after my hip replacement...19 days to be exact. The problem is I'm going to have to get INR/PT blood draws twice a week for the 2 weeks I'm there.....So, 4 round trips to Quest at $25 approx. per ride....OUCH!!! So, an extra $200 :scared1::scared1: into my budget. I can't figure out any easier/cheaper way to get the 8 miles to Quest....

We aren't renting a car....so taxi is about it....

Ugh:(

Well, that's no fun...my first suggestion was going to be rent a vehicle.

I can tell you that recently experiencing Disney from a wheelchair made me wish we had booked the ECV.
I wouldn't have worried so much about DH pushing, folks darting in front, and that I could take myself to the first aid centre for a rest, or to the restroom myself.

Despite all that, it was wonderful, and the slower pace we went at, made us all enjoy it that much more:)

Wishes for successful surgery, quick healing, and a wonderful trip!

:)

Definitely have an ECV booked. I realize I have no other option and I'll just put up with it.......

Has your doctor mentioned Lovenox? It's a lot more common now than warfarin after joint replacement and doesn't require blood tests. It is more expensive to start with, but it's covered (or it's generic is) by most insurances, it's an easy injection into your stomach once a day usually for 10-14 days after surgery. Worth talking about anyway.

Our experience with Lovenox was that it was very expensive (no generic, this was a couple of years ago though). Even with insurance, it was ridiculous. DD did not inject in stomach, she used her upper arm or thigh, and it was 2X in 24 hours. It is more stable than the Coumadin, and lasted 12 hours. She switched to the Coumadin, despite the frequent labwork needed, but she had to use Lovenox before and after surgeries for a short time.

(she had a PE after hip surgeries at age 15).

DD is 19 now and getting knee replacements (!!!) next month.

Expensive for me too...the coumdin is only a temporary thing. I just didn't think I was going to have to have 2 tests a week....I'll survive....

Good luck Kimball - I know how much FFL means to you guys. I hope you can enjoy it anyway.

Thanks Michelle....We are counting the days. We are spending a few days at Disney before heading to the conference....FFL Rocks:cheer2::cheer2:

Fwiw there is a generic now- but whatever you choose, enjoy your trip - make sure you check with your md the precautions he/she wants you to follow while there
