I'm going for 10 days in October with 2 first timers.

I've never gone to WDW without the Dining Plan also never had to comsider a budget. We have Dining reservations for each non travel days in the parks and several for dinners at Disney Springs. Is $400-$450/day a reasonable budget for 2 adults & 1 child for 10 days of eating well and shiopping?

That should be plenty even if you want to do a character meal each day.

You may be pleasantly surprised that you save money from being on the dining plan. You won't be trying to get your money's worth out of a DP that you've paid for already. You'll be able to go all out one day and then have a less expensive experience with no feeling of suffering on another day. I don't think we've spent $450 a day for 2 adults and 2 children... even when we went to Shulas for dinner... and we weren't looking to spend or save money at any given meal or snack.

You can run some "what if" scenarios with the menu prices. I think your budget will be OK.

We budget 100 day for each adult a little less on the kids depending on age. So yes you should be great.
Tip: you can order kids meals at QS for adults .

We plan on 100.00 to 150.00 per person for food and drinks, if you are going to enjoy adult beverages then on the higher end for sure... As well if you order appetizers, and desserts... If you mix it up with QS options, and some TS meals you should be right in line with what you are budgeting...

As for souvenir's, that so much harder to budget... some people get a T-shirt and that's good for them, with the kiddo's they will see and want everything... Then there's people like me, I might have a Disney shopping problem.... LOL ... Disney Pandora charms, Disney Dooney and Burke purses, as well I am working on finishing my Mickey dishes, and flatware/Serving utensils... As well Christmas Ornaments... and with Christmas coming, my family likes certain stocking stuffers from Disney... I will say, If you see something get it... because not all the parks or Disney Spring has all the same merchandise...
