This is my first ever post, but I have been lurking on these boards since I started planning my last trip in August 2006. I found so much valuable information, especially about our resort where we stayed last November, Coronado Springs, and about where we are going this May, Ft. Wilderness Cabins, and thoughts for our November trip as well! Yes, I am a new Disney fanatic. I used to go often when we lived in FL, but just took our children for the first time last November for Thanksgiving with family who live in or near Orlando. It was so magical that I started dreaming of our next trip as soon as we got back! I love the planning!!! And I see I am not alone in this from other posts I have read.
So I talked Dh into another trip this May. He got to make a big purchase for his hobby (new camera), and I got to start planning our next visit. I figure I won both ways as we will take the camera on the trip!!
About us, we've been married for 15 yrs. and have twin boys who will turn 6 while we are at Disney in May, as well as a 2 yr. daughter. I am fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom, and I am a power seller on ebay. I list my kids clothes, and stuff for friends and family. Its a nice side job that I can do in my spare time.
Anyway, with a family of 5, the Wilderness cabins seemed like a great fit for this coming trip. Plus there is so much to do there!! The campfires, movies, petting zoo, fishing (reminds me I need to get to Wal-mart to get fishing poles for the boys!), golf carts (yes, we rented one already), and the boat to MK! All just too much fun.
I am really looking forward to seeing the fireworks over the lake there one night, watching the kids play outside the cabin looking for bugs and bunnies, and zooming around in that golf cart! (must remember to pack a towel in case it gets wet...) Not to mention the fact that we will have a separate room for Dh and Ds who both get up at an insanely early hour every morning. Other ds, dd, and I will sleep in while they hang out in the living room or on the porch. Only economical way for us to have a suite like this. Its just a great alternative for a family of 5 or more.
My only complaint is the double bed. We had this at the Coronado in November, and it was rather small. I may kick Dh out to the Murphy bed! (shh! don't tell him!) I would offer, but he's the early riser!
The Coronado was a lovely hotel, but all five of us (baby was in portable crib) made for cramped quarters. I think we will miss the themed pool a bit. But not too much. The kids are really little still and just like water. Any water. The slides and pyramid were neat, but they were too little to enjoy them. So, we will be fine with the pool and playgrounds at the campground. The petting zoo will more than make up for any shortcomings on theming! I hope that they have those brushes like they do at the AK. My dd had the best time chasing goats around there with a brush. She would brush them all day long.
Its too bad they are too young to ride the horses. I would like to go for a ride. Maybe some of our family will watch the kids while we go for a leisure ride. The carriages sound great too, but they are a little pricey since we are renting a golf cart.
So I am thinking about packing now that we are less than 3 weeks out. I have wardrobe plans. I need some more shirts for the boys though. I want Pirates of the Carribean shirts for them. We have one Mickey, Stars and Power Rangers for our MGM visit. The girl will wear a smocked Cinderella dress one day, a Pooh bear dress another, and I got a smocked Ariel shorts set for an insanely high price on ebay (but hey, I can turn around and sell it back, you know?) I have more smocked dresses for her, but I'll move on. I need ponchos for rain days. Sticks and marshmallows for the campfire. I want to pack coffee and filters. Boxes of snacks and breakfast foods. My mil will go to the store for me and bring essentials like milk and water.
I bought Pirates of the Carribean lanyards on clearance at Target for starting a pin collection. I still need autograph books. We didn't get them last time, but I think we should start. One more thing to cram into our backpack! But we have the stroller too. DD took nice naps in it in November, and I am hoping she will again. Especially since we got a really late dinner reservation one night with Cindrella at 1900 Park Fare.
We are eating at Kona, Crystal Palace (pooh characters), Akershaus (princesses), Hollywood & Vine (playhouse disney characters), and 1900 Park Fare. These are our character meal plans. I had a reservations for all 3 meals each day in November, and we made it to almost all of them, but it was hard (and EXPENSIVE). We had our car then, so we could drive to the hotels for dinner; but we are flying down this time ($59 one way direct flight! woohoo!)
So we will try to eat in our cabin some to take advantage of the kitchen and save some money for the golf cart rental (notice the running golf cart theme here; trying to justify the added expense to hubby (really just want to drive one for the first time...))
So that's the plans for now. Where my crazy head is at ALL day EVERY day. No wonder I keep forgetting important stuff like my purse and to pay a bill - I'm busy planning my trip!
Plus I am thinking ahead to November when we plan to go back again for Thanksgiving with family. We hope this will be our new Thanksgiving tradition (I'm just sneaking this May trip in since they had a great May room only offer and the kids had a day off of school and the airfare was so cheap and I want to drive one of those golf carts...)!
This November, I want to stay at the Contemporary or the WL if I can get a good rate. The baby turns 3 in December, so it will be our last trip where we can all stay in one room and not buy her a ticket, so let's do it big with a Deluxe! Woohoo!
So that's all for tonight, folks. I am sorry if I was long-winded or boring. I appreciate anybody who has made it this far. I am just really excited that I am going so soon -- May 3rd is so close!!!
Best wishes to my fellow Disney dreamers and fanatics!
