I'm getting worried

We just bought into the DVC through Disney, and just closed a few days ago. Since my use year is Sept. I banked the retro points they gave us for next year. We plan on going June of 09, but I;m getting nervous about availabilty. I keep reading posts that it is hard to get what you want. I hope I didn't make a huge mistake by buying into the DVC. I understand peak times, and it may be hard. But if I'm trying for my home resort, is it always going to be hard to get something?

Since you are trying for your home resort, you can begin booking in July 2008. Truly, the most difficult times to book DVC is Spring Break, Christmas to New Years, and Early December (reasonable points/ Holiday decorations are up). I would not have any expectation of you having a difficult time booking for June at your home resort, and it would probably be pretty easy to book at your non-home resort for that time period at 7 months.

You really should not have difficulty booking at your home resort at 11 months out, except for the peak December holiday period. If you've bought SSR or AKV, I would suspect you'll have few problems, as both are/will be large resorts. (Kidani is not yet completed). You may have some difficulty this year at AKV for June 2009, as the resort may not be finished.

Hi,

I just this week booked one bedroom villa for a week at Saratoga Springs for June 15-20th of this year. So that was with less than 50 days to go when
I booked it.

-- This short notice is because I ended up with Developer Points that we couldn't apply to our November trip -- so they had to be used and we can't go in the fall because of the kids schedule/activities.

June 2009 with lots of notice should be fine for you.

Mary

If you book your home resort at the 11 month window, you are not going to have a problem.

The posts you read about "having trouble getting what you want" are about booking non home resorts using the 7 month window.

There are only a few times of the year and a few specific room types at specific resorts that are difficult to get if you use the 11 month window.

For example:

Conceirge category at AKV
Standard view category at BWV
Boardwalk view Category at BWV
Grand Villa/Beach Cottage all resorts
Dedicated 2 bedrm at BCV with 2 queen beds in the second bedroom

Even if you want/need one of those, you can still almost always get what you want if you call day by day. And day by day isn't necessary for all times of the year, even to get one of the above. Believe it or not, the summer months are easier to get at the WDW DVC resorts than many other times of the year.

Please don't worry - you're not going to have trouble getting what you want at your home resort if you use the 11 month window.

I booked 5 mths out for the end of June--a very busy time. I had my choice of SSR, OKW, and VWL-and studios are hard to get. I would not worry at all for June for your home resort and you'd be fine at 7 mths out for most other places, as well. Have fun! Elaine

Since we travel at Thanksgiving, I was up early on the day our 11 month window opened and had no problem. I did do the day-by-day call but had no problems. I think you will be ok. SSR is a large resort so it will be one of the last to fill up. Now, as far as the 7 month window, I can't speak for that since I haven't tried to book at 7 months at another resort. I will tell you that if you plan to travel at peak times, it's important to plan ahead. We had no luck with a last minute ressie at SSR but called just three weeks before our trip (Jersey week).

Will not be disappointed with your decision! Welcome home! :dance3:
