First, they charged us for a book we never received (nor rec'd shipping confirmation for). It was going to arrive so late (Chegg delay) that my dd just bought the book at the campus bookstore. While the book never showed up, it is listed as due on her account. When I called to get it straightened out the customer service rep was less than helpful. Asked for a supervisor but she refused to put one through.

Then, the two books we did return (on time, mailed before the deadline, 1 day after finals ended)---I just rec'd a notice that we are being charged for them since "we are buying them" according to the email. $169. being charged to my card, which will be refunded when they books arrive, as long as they arrive before the 25th. Ugh. Never had this problem before----printed the label, dropped off at UPS by the deadline, the deed is done (and I have the receipt to prove it). While I don't mind the $169. (we pay our balance in full each month), it's a little annoying and indicative that something has gone wrong at Chegg.

Will be looking into a different textbook rental company for the spring semester.

They can't put you through to a supervisor because they work from home. :rolleyes1

Call back and see if you get a more experienced agent. If they can't help you, ask that they put in a ticket - meaning someone will contact you back directly from Chegg w/i 1 business day.

OMG, thank you!!!

The girl I spoke with was pretty ditzy. First she told me she had to consult with the person next to her to find out how to help me (wonder where she went for that???). Then after we went back and forth with the supervisor thing she claimed she WAS a supervisor. Yeah, right. To top it off, before the call ended she said she had worked for Chegg for 3 months (guess they promote quickly there :rotfl:).

For a company that keeps touting its customer service I was less than impressed with their inability to give a resolution or put someone through who could. Never had the ticket thing mentioned even though I asked specifically what else I could do to get help. Thanks for the tip!!!

My daughter was never re-imbursed for a book that did not arrive last semester, or for the shipping Chegg said they would refund due to books not arriving. Long story short, they were never shipped out to begin with, so we canceled the one book she HAD to have that day, but she ended up paying Chegg for it anyway. I shipped her books back last week, and asked for a receipt from the UPS store. This was our first time using Chegg and will probably be our last. We now have 3 kids in college, and I don't have time for bad customer service.

Try Valorebooks.com. They were started by a bunch of college kids at my college (SUNY Fredonia). They were sick of the bookstore prices so started their own online marketplace/store fronts to buy and sell books. My husband works for their tech dept. They just started rentals this fall to compete with Chegg. DH tells me they're now undercutting a lot of Chegg's rentals. Worth a look.

This past semester I rented my son books from Chegg and CampusBookRentals. I just sent the Chegg book back today via UPS using their free shipping label. I have sold books to Chegg without any problems and the check arrived on time. I will let you know if I have any problems with this return.
