I was hired by a former teacher to work on a project. His company is being contracted by a company (let's call it ABC) to help with a project. ABC told him that they need someone ASAP. The understanding was that I'd hit the ground running & be working like a madman. The initial meeting was on January 9th & I bought a $3000 laptop (which they said I needed) to work on this after they we were good to go. I also quit my job to get this done & everything looked great.
Then the heel dragging began...
ABC then started telling us that late February was when we'd start. My teacher/boss felt bad, so he said he'd advance me the money. He then said I wouldn't have to pay it back & that he'd buy my laptop in a few weeks if this doesn't pan out. He also told me that "Ken" another former student had a great job but jumped on board (on the teacher's word) with ABC because they initially told him that they'd give him $15k more a year. They then turned around & told him they'd like to hire him for $15k less than he was making & $30k than they initailly told him he'd make.
We went to another meeting & my boss said that they'd have to come up with some work for me since this is my only source of income & because I'd be working a ton on their say so. It sounded like at the least I'd be working on this project from mid/late Feb to mid-June. It was also my understanding that once I started working I'd go from module to module (3 total in this project) with no lag time.
Then I get the project schedule today...
Here's what they're expecting:
March 17th-April9th (module 1)
May 7th-22nd (module 2)
July 7th-25th (module 3)
So I'm stuck for 6 weeks with no work or income! Then another 4 weeks without work. Then another 6 weeks including all of June!

This sucks! My teacher/boss is pretty upset about the whole deal. He's been making some contacts trying to get me work with someone else, so hopefully that will pan out.
