I've been looking at air fare for Feb 17th through 25th and was on right at 331 day mark and the flights for Song came in at $299.00 each way and have yet to go down, I know Jet Blue and Southwest are not yet out. What is the hope of these going down in price?
Thanks for any help

I'm right there with you Shelby.

I booked our outbound flight on February 14th BOS to MCO for $74 one way. (I'm VERY happy with that). The flights home are still quite astronomical. If you happen to go to the 'check seats' option on the flights, you will see that the majority of all the flights, they are still pretty empty. When playing the game for last year, the flights started out fairly inexpensively, went WAYYY up, came down for a bit, and then went back up.

I'm checking every day or so, and keeping an eye on SWA, AirTran and Jet Blue.

Good Luck!

I'm going a few weeks after you and I booked airfare last weekend. My fear is that fuel costs are going to jack up ticket prices so I decided not to play my waiting game. I got mine on Sat., for the first morning flight out of PHL for $218, near the lowest I've paid for a non-stop recently, and it will have us on the ground at MCO before 9am, a requirement for me if we're to capture the first day. On Sun. I foolishly looked again and found my flights for $181. Do I wish I waited a day? Of course. Am I happy I have my flights for a price near my all time lows? Yes. I'm not going to beat myself up over this and I'll be vindicated further if in Oct., when I'd normally I'd buy, the fares are nearer to $300. I hope for the sake of others that they're not.

Add one more to that boat. Got a 75 seat on 2/16 from JFK to FLL. Return flight are all 249 +. It is going to be a very short trip unless the rates come down :badpc:

Nahhhh-I just told my parents (who we are staying with after Disney) that we're just not going back home...... :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I think they will come down some. I guarantee you we will not be able to fly home for the same $74 we are flying down for. I also think it will be up and down a few times, and we are going to really have to be paying attention.

Hi Shelby,

I am leaving from NYC feb 18th To Feb 25

If you see a fare you can live with, by all means grab it. And, I've been the first person to say that fares aren't going anywhere but up, at least in the near term. But, miracles do sometimes happen.

For example, I've been watching prices for a roundtrip DTW-ORF in late August (beach vacation.) NWA direct on days/times we could live with were $225, then $235, then $245, then $260, but with plenty of K-class buckets still available--the tickets weren't selling, but the bottom-end fare kept creeping up. Over the weekend, I decided to bite the bullet and grab tickets at $225, for connecting flights on AirTran between FNT-PHF (not optimal, but close enough), but hadn't gotten around to it, 'cause I needed to check times and airport choices with my wife.

Lo and behold, I get an Orbitz fare notification this evening that my stop-limit price of $230 for the original flight had been beaten. However, it hadn't been beaten; it had been crushed. Direct flights NWA, ideal time down, the next day back, for $175 pp. Praise the lord and pass the credit card!

Grabbed four of the last six K-class seats, too!

Bill - What airline are the $218 flights on? I'm not seeing anything that low for November from PHL.

Thanks

When I book NWA, I always check for a price drop so I can use the funds on future flights. I fly between San Diego and Mason City (or Minneapolis if I feel the need to stop at Mall of America) several times a year. I booked my tickets for the July 4th holiday last month for about $390 round-trip, which is a good $125 more than I normally pay. Tonight when I checked the fares for the identical flight, it had gone to $771. No credit voucher, but it did make me feel better about paying $390 :rotfl:

We fly out of BDL and have gone Pres week the last couple years. Unless I missed it by seconds, SWA never offered discounted seats for Fri, Sat Sun of those two weekends. The fares came out on 9/18 and by 10/11 almost all the flights were sold out - at $183 OW. This year we're hoping to have free tickets. Both last year and the year before, we flew down on Mon Pres day and returned on the Tues or Wed of the following week (missing a couple days of school) By not flying the peak weekends, our tickets were around $200 RT.

I am a big fan of waiting till about 3 months before to purchase... Flying out of BOS, MCH or PVD I can usually get it to between $150 and $180 ... sometimes lower.. (we went last September for $99 round trip with a month to spare) I would not do that with a large group but it works for us!! I am even thinking about a B-day trip for my boyfriend in may for a weekend as SW just went down to $125 out of Manchester.... He will kill me but we will see!!

I think this is probably true for anytime BUT peak vacation times (Christmas, Pres Week, April vacation)

Except for these holiday times, we've paid as low as $75 RT and about $170 at the most (and that was our first trip in 1999)

Be prepared for your rental car rate to be higher during Presidents week also. Because of this and the higher air fare, we took our vacation the week before. Good Luck.

I GOT MY RENT A CAR FOR PRESDIENT'S WEEK FOR 130.00 FOR INTERMEDATE CAR FROM NATIONAL.

THEY WERE HAVING A GREAT SALE LAST WEEK :cool1:

HOPE THIS HELPS

If you are renting a car you may want to try Tampa. We booked Song into Tampa and out of Orlando for $82.75 including taxes and fees for NH vaca week. They only have a few flights a day into Tampa though.

We had to take an early Sun flight to get the $74 rate out and are doing the park and fly at the Sheraton for $145, which is as cheap as parking at Logan.

Last year we booked on Song for about $100 plus tax each way and the flights went down when SW and JetBlue released, so I wouldn't give up hope for something cheaper.

Boy am I jealous! :earseek: I was looking at rental rates last week and I didn't see that! What codes or specials did you use?

I am also frustrated by the outrageously high fares and limited nonstop flights during President's week in 2006. I began searching on March 31st for NY to Florida/Orlando/Tampa flights and have checked almost every day on all the airlines websites and the various expedias, sidesteps, etc. I have yet to find a roundtrip airfare that was close to reasonable, especially on a "full size" airplane. The weeks before and the weeks after President's week have a lot of very cheap nonstop flights from NY to FL. In fact, fares from Florida to New York during President's week are also cheap (not surprising!). I guess its just supply and demand at work. I plan to continue searching, though I may cut back my searching to every other day :) I'll let you know if I find any deals out there. Good luck!
