I'm getting a Ragdoll Kitten!!!

We pick her up to bring home at the end of October! I'm so excited, as I've always wanted one :)

We have 2 daughters and a 12 year old calico (who grew up with our other kitty who sadly passed 2 years ago).

Any tips about owning a Ragdoll kitty? Please feel free to share pics of your own Ragdoll cat!!!
congrats- they're so pretty! One thing I've noticed, how they look can vary widely...I don't know why as I don't pay too much attention to breed types in cats.... I have one I found last year that is at least a partial ragdoll, blue eyes, tabby striped points, whitish buff fur.... she looks like all the shorthair ones I've seen in many cat ads (for catfood and stuff) My sister has the fluffy version that she got from a breeder, with thick fluffy whitish long fur,and gorgeous blue eyes etc etc... I have another friend who got one at a breeder that is short hair, with very dark points, and a couple of white spots on it's face.....they look totally different:confused3
Another thing I'd heard about them is they're super friendly? Well, my little rescue is not. She's beautiful, but standoffish like an ordinary cat.

love all the pics! They are a pretty cat..... I guess mine must be only partial ragdoll lol b/c she thinks she's queen of the universe also! :rotfl2: def. doesn't have that classic personality lol

Rag dolls are very sweet and loyal. My cat, Noelle, won’t go anywhere unless I’m with her. If she is not sleeping, she will literally sit my side in whichever room I’m in. She is not as affectionate as my male tabby cat, Kylo Ren, though!! (Go figure, with a name like that! 😂) But she will still cuddle on my lap if I have a blanket on in the winter. Here are recent pics.

I will warn you--our Florence is TROUBLE! But, a great breed! And obviously, we didn't find any papers or anything with her, out in the hurricane debris. She is also very affectionate--loves sleeping on my shoulder.

I love how they're all so gorgeous, but each one looks different.

My little one is very standoffish. But she does follow my hubby around the house like a little puppy dog. It's so cute to watch her run after him....

Congrats. I love rag dolls. I had a mixed cat that had rag doll in her and she was the sweetest cat I ever had. I would always love how limp she would get when I picked her up and held her like a baby. My only advice is brush often. Like another poster said they don't shed but molt large clumps of fur.

Loving all the pics!! Thanks to everyone who shared, and congrats to the OP on the new addition. :cat:

I am so excited for you! We got our kittens in July and they've made my summer. What will yours look like? Ours are blue mitted, and are about 5 months old now. I used to think they were identical, but they're really not. Ginger is more shy, but has really come out of her shell and loves to play. She will fetch a ball if she's in the mood for it. Wasabi is a rascal who has fallen in the tub 3x so far (THREE TIMES!!!!). Both have that ragdoll temperament, and we're constantly having to watch our feet and where we roll over in bed. Don't know where the cats are? Probably right by your feet waiting to be stepped on. Both feel the need to follow us into the bathroom. Wasabi even entered the shower with my husband once, but didn't get in the spray (she seems to love water, at least for playing with).

Have fun with your kitty! If you've ever considered getting two, I highly recommend it. My kittens have been a real comfort to each other, and they exhaust a lot of kitten energy playing together. If your kitten drives your older cat crazy wanting to play all the time, you might consider getting a second kitten (litter mate or a rescue).

Ragdolls are the best, most affectionate cats ever! They typically take up with one person, but are sweet to everyone else. You can always tell who the cat's person is though!

Both Eskimo and my childhood Ragdoll were taught to fetch craft balls. Eskimo sometimes sits in my lap when I'm in the bathtub!

Brush often, pay special attention to their under arms. The fur tends to mat there.

Awh yay!! My Mia was a ragdoll - we had to put her down back in May due to old age. She was such a sweetheart and such a great cat! The only advice I can give it to keep up on the grooming. Start early to create a habit of brushing every day or every other day. I made the mistake of not keeping up with the brushing and I ended up having to give her a lion cut because she was so matted.

Oh my.... you're in for a treat. We adopted a couple of stray kittens that were running around the neighborhood and one turned out to be a flamepoint ragdoll (his sister is a typical short-hair Siamese). Butterscotch is huge! His paws are huge. He has a double coat of hair and loves to eat his own hair if he finds it laying on the floor.... which is all the time because as the previous poster said.... they molt! But, he's super sweet! We call him the ambassador of our cats because he's always trying to take care of them. He's very playful but you can also find him hiding in odd spots to take his catnaps. He goes limp when picked up and loves to cuddle... as long as he's in the mood. Snooze.JPG

Thank you to the many, many people who mentioned the need for brushing. I've only been doing it once a week, because my kittens are still relatively short haired. I have been playing with their paws so I can do their nail clips. I didn't realize they would get coats that could mat. I've read that they're not that prone to matting compared to other longhaired cats, but of course they still need grooming. Somehow I missed that. :cat:

I have a rag doll cat! She's 19 and THE bEST FURRY FLOOFER on the planet. They are VERY calm, you can pick them up and flop them around, hence the name 'rag doll'. Sweet and curious disposition. She is always at the door waiting for me as I walk in from wherever. Mine doesn't she terribly, either- but I think that's just a luck of the draw. Every night she will perk up come over to me and give me 'the stare' of: WHEN ARE WE GOING TO BED? And then I pick her up, put her in bed, I wash up, and we go to sleep together. She always sleeps next to my head. Sometimes she puts her fluffy tush on my head. HAHA. Enjoy your kitty!!!

My Ragdoll actually doesn't need hardly any brushing. Once a year, MAYYYBE she gets a small mat around her back and tush where the hair is longer and harder for her to reach. She doesn't shed too terribly, and definitely molts when the seasons change. A good brushing and she's good to go. I like the one that is a glove, it's awesome. And the other one that's got a rectangular head and tiny thin bristles. I start with that one and finish with the glove. I think all cats shed different- at least from my experience.
