Oddly enough I am getting very excited about an add on at SSR!
When we first bought our BLT points last year I would have never given SSR a second thought.

While we haven't stayed at SSR yet, I like the grounds and the idea of parking our car near the room. I hear so many good things about it, and wouldn't mind getting "stuck" here. And we have our original BLT contract so I will have that for my must have stays there.

What I don't like is that the number of points to stay at SSR is only slightly lower than BLT. Why is SSR so point heavy?

Has anybody else discovered a new love for SSR, which they didn't think they would have?

Like you, I own at BLT and never saw SSR before our last trip, in November. We were riding the water taxi at DTD and looked over and saw the nicest resort overlooking DTD. When the boat driver told me it was SSR, I was floored. I always thought of SSR as the unwanted step-sibling of all other DVC resorts. The grounds and the views are stunning and when our kids get older, we definitely want to stay there.

Congrats on your addition!!

I love SSR.

It is my second fav resort, second only to BC (due 90% to pool and 10% to due to kids club there n fav rest too.) If SSR had a kids club, or my kid grows out of the kiddie pool, it would move to to #1. No Question.

Things I love

Walking to DTD For ressies at other hotels this is priceless. .. IE Dinner at Jumbo, or Mickey's BBQ. I stop no 2-3 bus transfers.
QS rest Artists Pallet for coffee in the AM is fantastic. Kid colors while I wake up. So much to keep her busy. Bagles, mini mart for sandwich stuff.
Parking near car
Bus stop near every room, no never ending hallways, or a mile walk to room.
Nice play ground (not AKV nice but close, who knows with paddoc change though.)
Zero walk in pool
Baby water slide for DD6
Big kid water slide for DH
In the middle of all parks. 15 mins or less every park day. (Unlike AKV from nearly everything except AK, or WL from everything except MK.
Haven't stayed at THV yet, but will someday. :) n look forward to it.
LONG experation compared to BC, BW, WL ect
Low maintence comparitivly.
I cannot afford per point night at BLT : ( I can travel more days with SSR than I can with BLT.

I LOVE SSR.

We added on at SSR after adding on at BLT mainly because of the low price per point. We're excited about the Paddok Pool project and we never visited it until we added on. We feel that it's a nice change of pace & like the proximity to DTD.

My family stayed in the Springs section at SSR over Christmas. Once the bus picked us up at our stop, it was exactly 12 minutes later when we arrived at the park. It takes the monorail that long from BLT to the Magic Kingdom. The only inconvenience for my family is having to take the kids out of the stroller and break it down before boarding the bus. Travel time on the SSR bus system is probably quicker than any of the other DVC resorts with the exception of Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom. SSR buses also do not share a route with any other resorts so that's another plus in travel time.

I love the Treehouses @ SSR
I second this! We have our second stay at the THV's coming up in less than two weeks!:cool1: And planning on staying there again for Christmas if there are still openings when I call on Tuesday morning!

I've noticed that SSR is getting more respect in these forums than it has in the past. It's been a year and a half since I've been home, but even then the maturation of the landscaping and the addition of the Grandstand were rounding out the resort. I can only assume that this is continuing, and the new Paddock area pool will further enhance SSR's reputation.

I'm not sure I understand the OP point about SSR being "point heavy.". SSR is I think one of the cheaper options for staying on points. If memory serves, only OKW, and maybe AKV and BV standard views are cheaper. Also, the Treehouses are a great value -- a three- bedroom villa for about the same point value as a one-bedroom at BLT! It was a terrific value before the points reallocation, but I think it's still a good one now.

I love the Treehouses @ SSR

We do too. We added on at SSR because of the resale prices, and I thought these would be "extra" points that we would use at 7 months out. Not so, from now on those points are being earmarked for Treehouse stays with the extended family. Just being there felt like "Fun!"
