I decided that since I wanted to splurge this summer and stay CR TPV, I better book now and be sure to get a room, then if a summer discount comes out I can apply it. THEN, i went through Ebates to Orbitz and using a 20% off code of DISCOVER I got an even better deal. Guess I will wait to see if summer discount is better:confused3

Congrats on the discount through Ebates/Orbitz :).

It sounds like you also booked rack rate through Disney and will apply a discount if one is released through Disney and is better than 20% :confused3. If that is the case, you would be better off not having that reservation through Disney as there has to be availability under the discount in order to have it applied. Since Disney releases discounts to fill rooms, not every resort and/or room type is offered with a discount. If you book now in hopes of applying a discount later, that is one less room Disney has to fill. With that said, having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied.

Lets ALL book September for free dining !!! :thumbsup2

Disney says "look the reservations are strong for September"!
Looks like we don't need to offer DINING !!!! :drive:

I had no idea you could get such good deals on Orbitz. I will have to check them out. Is there a cancellation fee with either? Sorry - new here! :)

Yup, on the other hand joke will be on them when everyone calls to cancel when they figure out no FD. I know when I pre-book september, its only on hopes of FD. If it wasn't announced, I'd re-book in a heartbeat for October/November. That's the risk for Disney, they have to know that this is the reason September attendance has been so high, and that people will cancel if they decide not to.

Don't forget to check out Ebates to Orbitz/Travelocity/Cheaptickets once Disney does release its discounts for your dates. Last year I was able to book WL by going Ebates (5.5%) to Travelocity (extra 15%) which was also offering Disney's discounted rates (30%). In the end I wound up saving close to 47%. Now that I've done that, nothing I'm seeing for my dates looks like a good deal, but I don't want to miss out on getting any deal in hopes for a better one. It sounds like you have your bases covered!

Booking early gives you zero percent better chance of getting a discount. You still have to call first thing when the promo is released. If it's not showing availability for your resort or room type, then you can't get it without changing your entire reservation. So what's the advantage?

I've been recommending in all my articles, blogs, and posts that people should avoid doing this if they are booking to get a discount. It gives you no advantage whatsoever over someone calling for a new reservation that morning.

In fact, during the last free dining release, the website opened up at midnight but the phones didn't open until 7am. Since you can't modify online, everyone who had a reservation had to wait 7 hours past everyone else...and essentially got last dibs. Everyone booking a new reservation had an advantage over those who already had one.

So wait to book, you'll be far better off.

So true. I used to book early in the year (room only) and then had to call anyhow when the discounts came out. DUHHH on my part. Since we won't go without a discount, there wasn't much point in me doing that. So last time I booked, I just get on the website after midnight, took about 5 minutes to book, and I was done. No waiting on the phone. Looking forward to August so I can book our fall trip.
