I'm confused, why are there fast passes for a parade?

When I went two years ago you just lined the streets for the parades. Is that not the practice now? Has Disney changed that much? I guess I am pretty clueless to the "new" Disney.

Some people don't want to stake out a spot early. We watch all parades in Frontierland. We would never use a FP for a parade. Lol

I'm a MS CM who sometimes helps out with the FP areas for the parade and fireworks, so I can tell you that the idea is to have a reserved spot on Main Street without having to stake out a place an hour or two ahead of time. But yeah, you can still watch from the streets- the only FP viewing area is the center circle in Town Square. You can still grab a spot anywhere else :)

Thank you, we are taking our three year old granddaughter Saturday for a one day trip to MK, her first. I want to be able to make sure she can see the parades but didn't want to necessarily FP them.

You get a fast pass because even if you stake out a spot early people will sit or stand right in front of you, push you, crowd your personal space, put iPads in your face, etc. I could go on. I have personally experienced the worst in humanity during fireworks and parades. For me, they are the best fastpasses to get.

We used a FP for the parade in December and it was wonderful, but you definitely don't HAVE to. We have just had really bad experiences with crowds at parades, and I am short so unless I can be in the front, there is no point at all. Being in a space that was not crowded, no pushing or elbows in your face, etc. was really a treat!

My understanding is that FP+ is not necessary to watch the parades and nighttime shows. We have FP+ booked for FoF and MSEP because 3 (/7) in our party really don't like crowds and would probably be very grouchy if they had to stake out spots early, just to have strangers push and shove them. Also, I'm pregnant (our trip is when I'm early 3rd trimester), and would rather not be crowded.

I so agree with this! I totally stopped watching the parades and fireworks prior to being able to get a FP+ for them.

No matter how long I waited, someone would come up and shove their kid in front of me or between my legs (!), or even try to argue with me that they should be able to walk up five minutes before a parade and get in front of me because they have a small child and "it's for the children."

I so love the parade and fireworks FP+!

DO NOT follow this advise. Frontierland is the WORST spot to watch parades from.....unless of course you will be there when we aren't :rotfl2:. But seriously, we love watching the parades from there also. You can almost always find a good spot just minutes before the parades, it never gets really crowded around you and when it's over there are a lot less people to get around.

Frontierland is definitely the place to be! But really, imo, Main Street USA is a more magical area. Too bad the unruly, entitled crowds of today have ruined it. But in the '60s (for Disneyland), '70s and '80s pure Walt Disney magic!

Hey hey hey don't be giving away trade secrets.

Don't listen. Grab a seat on Main Street 2 hrs early and u will be just fine.

I'm kidding. Liberty square and frontier land is a great place. U can always get a front row if you know where the ropes go up.

But seriously. 2hrs early for Main Street. It's nuts anymore. My personal favorite was Halloween this year. 6 pm. Sitting at flag pole in front of Main Street for the parade. They weren't restng. They were posting up already. Just sad. All that lost candy.....
