I'm Brave, I'm Bold..i Have An Adr At San Angel Inn!!!

We Love SAI. We managed to get a River view seat this last trip and it was fabulous!

We have three tiers of Restaurants. The 'WE must eat here every trip" place, like Le Cellier, Crystal Palace, Casey's Corner, Donald's Breakfastosaurs and 50's Prime Time (but we are missing it this trip in December. Go figure?)
l
Second Tier: "The place we must eat in during our two week trip" Like SAI, Mama Melrose, and the sadly lamented Alfredos.

Third Tier: " We try to eat here at least once a year" like Tangerene Cafe, Rose and Crown, Liberty Tree Tavern, and FlameTree BBQ.

The rest we hit occationally, but, won't cry if we miss.

We ate there in September and the atmosphere is pretty neat. If you are expecting the best Mexican food on the planet, you might be a little disappointed. It was worth the trip!

Please let us know what YOU think! Hope you enjoy...

I'm really pleased to see this thread, me and DBf are going for a romantic meal here when we go in 27 days :cool1: Now all the reviews I've read, specially on AllEars review boards have frightened me to death-bad service, bad food, etc. Its so good to see people who can say they enjoy the place. We are Brits so our mexican food experiences are limited (Apart from Fajitas I make out of a box at home;) ) although I have tried Taco bell and love it! I'm very curious to try the chicken mole dish-can someone tell me do you taste the chocolate, cos I really DON'T like the idea of meat and chocolate in the same mouthful!

I've been debating on whether or not to keep my SAI ADR or the Boma ADR. We're not really soup and salad people and that's what everybody always raves about at Boma. And we're always going to our local Mexican restaurant, and love it there. It's not authentic or anything, but we still like it. I guess we'll just see when we get there.

Just an opinion but I wouldn't give up Boma for San Angel, we use to love San Angel but the last two times the service was bad. Maybe we just hit it on a bad night, but not twice. After the first time we emailed management, gave it a second try and no better, it's not that it was slow, just rude and unaccommodating, and believe me we weren't asking for the world. We love Boma and it is one of our must do restaurants each trip. Again, just an opinion.

We ate at San Angel Inn last Sunday 10/21. We all were very pleased.
I was very skeptical about this meal after all of the negative reviews I had read, but DH and DS wanted to eat here.
Our food was Very Good, our service was excellent, I did not think it was too dark in the restaurant.
I had the Nachos which were good - not great and the Plato Mexicano. My tenderlon was great and the rest of the dish very good. I was too full for dessert. DH and DS both had the Ensalada de la Casa which was big and very fresh. The both enjoyed it. The also each had the Cominacaion Cozumel. They too commented on how tasty and tender their beef was and they enjoyed the meal. Both had Flan for dessert.
Our waiter was friendly and attentive, but not hovering. We were very pleased and left him an extra tip.
This was the surprise meal of our trip in that I truly enjoyed it here, and I was not expecting to.
Enjoy!

Thanks again to everyone for all of the positive vibes!!!!!! Now I am actually excited to eat there - so we'll see:thumbsup2 . Thanks to everyone who let me know what they ordered - that will be helpful.

Just don't order the steak and you'll be fine. We didn't have a great experience, but I did enjoy the atmosphere of it all. I hope it's a great meal for you and your family!

What are the less spicy things on the menu? I'm a bit of a wuss so don't want anything too fiery!

My husband and I ate here the last weekend in September. We did not have an ADR, but walked up around 2 p.m. on a Sunday and were seated right away, at a "riverside" table no less! The atmosphere was wonderful! The food? Nothing to write home about. It wasn't bad, it's just that we are used to eating at authentic Mexican restaurants and SAI just didn't seem up to par along those lines. We did finish everything on our plates, though. ;)

The last time we ate there was last September. Our son's girlfriend is Colombian and this was her favorite place to eat in all of WDW. We ate at 12 different places that trip including Jikos, LeCellier and Chefs de. She loved the food and atmosphere and loved talking to the wait staff in Spanish. It was her first trip to WDW. Have fun -- you'll have a great time.

We went in September. We gave up our Concourse Steakhouse ADR.
My Tacos Al Pastor and the soup was fantastic. Probably my second best meal behind Le Cellier.
DH got the steak and enchilada and it was not good at all. He was disappointed in his meal.

This is DH's "must eat" Epcot restaurant. I really like the atmosphere, but have never thought the food or service was especially great. Still, I can't say I've had a bad meal there, and so I go along for the sake of true love. Enjoy it!

I love san angel. We've been twice, most recently last December. The first time we both had steak and left so stuffed and happy we could barely walk. This past year my mole got into trouble in the kitchen, so we were given soup to keep us busy and free dessert as well in compensation. Combine that with a good margarita, and it was a sweet if prolonged meal. The mole was exceptional. And they totally sold me on their tortilla soup, so when I return in Jan I'll order a bowl!

We tried this on our trip in Aug 06 & our entire family loved it! I know we are in the minority but we loved the food, service & ambiance of SAI. We requested a riverside table & will do so again - next week!! :cool1:

I know this place gets trashed all of the time but I feel that you should always try a restuarant if it appeals to you & make your own opinion. I was seriously doubting this ADR before we left & it, along with Nine Dragons, were our two best meals of the trip!! Go figure, the two restaurants that are always getting bad reviews on here!! :confused3

SAI & Nine Dragons were the two places that my DD14 & DD11 said we had to do again this trip!!

I had the Chicken Mole last December and enjoyed it. It did not taste sweet at all, but did taste like chocolate...lol...I do not know how to explain it, really, but I liked it.

It's been a few years since we ate there, but at the time the mole was fabulous. The chocolate wasn't overpowering in the least.

We went a couple years ago and enjoyed it. I can't remember what we ordered but I do remember thinking it was good and enjoying our dinner.

Thanks for the replies about choccie chicken

Still not sure, I'll probably order it then if I don't like it I'll make DBf swap!

San Angel Inn is our family's MUST DO the first night we arrive at DW.
It's our tradition. Every trip starts with San Angel Inn.
We always have a great time.
We always order Pollo ala Rajas. My kids favorite. I make it at home now.
It's chicken with peppers, onions, sausage and cheese.

Enjoy...

How spicy is this? At the moment I'm dithering between this and the Plato mexicano, but trying to work out which is the milder of the two (Yes I'm a baby!)
