After several years of going back and forth on going to DL, I used my DVC points and I'm staying at the DLH for 3 nights this August. I finally found a good deal on airfare but had to arrive a day earlier, well at 3 pm, and I figured it will allow me to make the most out out of my stay. I'm flying into SNA and was going to stay off site for the night and move over the next morning. I called the DL resort line to ask a few questions and inquired about possibly adding on a night to my stay. I didn't want to use up any more of my points do to a big trip to WDW next year, so I'm going to pay cash. The CM on the phone told me about the 5 for the price of 3 ticket deal and I figured why not? DL is open to midnight and why not do some a little bit of the park on arrival afternoon.

I think I might have done a foolish thing though in booking a stay at the GC for my arrival day. I have always been interested in staying at the GC and I guess my desire got the best of me. Since I'm at the DLH for 3 nights, I wanted to try something a little different. I paid for the room and the ticket deal, so there's no worries there and I have the money. I was just thinking, am I crazy for spending the money on a standard room at the GC, when I could just stay at the HOJO for one night? Should I call back and modify the reservation to a cheaper hotel? I like the fact that I'm right there and this will give a chance to explore the resort some and see what all the hype is about. I guess I need some reassurance that I haven't gone completely insane.:rotfl2:

Honestly, if you don't plan on going into the park your first day then I think getting a nice hotel is the best idea. It's when you barely care about being at the hotel because you're at the parks all day that it shouldn't matter. I think you'll have a fantastic time relaxing in a nice hotel and being an elevator trip away from DTD.

If money is not an issue, why not stay at the Grand. You never know you may not get another opportunity. ;) Have a great trip!

When I check in at 4pm, I'll get settled in the room and I'll bet good money I don't have, that my kids will want to go swimming. Which is fine of course and I want to check out the pools too. I'm thinking after relaxing for awhile, I may go to DL at later that night and do a little walking around. I figure I have the 5 for 3 ticket deal so why not use it a little? I'm still up in the air about what to do later that night, but I think I'm really going to like staying at the GC. Part of me thinks that I'm crazy for doing this and it must be something Disney puts in the water. I just laugh how a simple trip gets a little bigger and more expensive.:rotfl:
