Please BeverlyLynn... HELP!

Here is our situation...We purchased tickets way back when on Delta for Flt# 2495 on 10/27.
That flight cancelled. Fine. We were rebooked on Flt# 2373 still direct, same day, got seat assignments. Fine. Yesterday, I received a message that they are over booked and they need to reschedule us for a flight seven hours later. I called back and explained that we have 9 people total traveling together on three separate reservations and we'd really appreciate sticking to the original plan as accomodating 9 people is not easy. She said that would be fine and confirmed that we had seats and should be all set. I then recommended to the others to call as well. When they did, they were told that they don't have seats and the later flight is overbooked TOO!

The other person traveling with us works in baggage for USAir and was at BDL today so she figured that she'd call up to the Delta desk and see what they showed. Again, no seats, no confirmation for any of us!!!

What should we do?????

Jennifer

P.S. Just another note. If I check my itinerary on-line it still shows that we are confirmed with seat assignments and the flight that they wanted us on was gone. Yesterday, all three were showing.

I'd show up at the airport for the originally planned flight...and hope that you get bumped....

They will usually ask for volunteers to be bumped, with varying amounts of compensation. You will then get assigned seats if you do not already have them by then...or you can volunteer and get your flight for free or even make money.
If there are no volunteers and you are involuntarily denied boarding, Delta Air Lines must confirm you on their next flight on which space is available, regardless of the class of service...meaning you can request first class.
If the alternate Delta Air Lines flight is not acceptable to you, Delta Air Lines must confirm you on the flight of another airline. If there is a flight on another airline that will arrive at your destination earlier than the alternate flight you have been offered, Delta Air Lines must confirm you on this flight - even if first class is all that is available to alternate transportation, Delta Air Lines must reimburse you as follows:

If Delta Air Lines arranges for alternate transportation that will arrive at your stopover or destination within one hour of your originally scheduled arrival timethere will be no compensation.
If Delta Air Lines arranges for alternate transportation that will arrive at your stopover or destination within 2 hours of your originally scheduled arrival time, you will receive 100% of the value of your flight coupons (for this portion of your trip). Maximum $200.00.
If Delta Air Lines can not arrange for alternate transportation that will arrive at your stopover or destination within 2 hours of your originally scheduled arrivaltime, you will receive 200% of the value of your flight coupons (for this portion of your trip). Maximum $400.00
On flights operated as Delta Connection, maximum $200.00. No compensation is due if you are denied boarding because of substitution of a smaller plane due to operational or safety reasons.

Thank you so much for your response!!!!!!

I was thinking the same way. The only problem is... in our party of nine, there is one elderly man and 4 children under the age of 5! I can't image having to spend 10 hours at the airport with this crew and then sit through another three hours of flight time. We're looking into the cost of going the day before like they are offering, but this all just seems so unfair!

I would LOVE to get bumped and take the compensation, but the kids are just too young to put through all that.

Thanks again Travelcoupons... you've helped alot of people here on these boards.

Assuming you have a reservation (but no seat assignment) I wouldn't worry. There are usually more than enough volunteers willing to accept the compensation.

sorry until my hand heals I am limited on my computer time. go with what TC says. personally I would take hte bump and free flight.but I would ask for the voucher in a dollar amount so as to be able to get frequent traveler miles.

I am with BL and TC. Show up! Tell them you want your seats, be polite but firm. They rebooked you so this is there mess not yours. However as I am sure BL can verify sometimes flights that look overbooked on the computer turn out not to be overbooked so you might wind up with no problems. I am not sure why this happens, I assume it is business travelers who change their minds (or miss their flights!) If they are asking for volunteers to bump and you don't want to spend 10 hours in the airport just don't volunteer. However, for that long of a wait I bet they wind up offering a good amount of money! Delta does not normally give cash, just Delta dollars for voluntary bumping so if you don't plan to travel in the next year don't accept the voluntary bump.
