SO I just called CRO and asked about my reservations and how the tax increase would effect me. I'm obsessive about keeping track of what I pay and what I owe so that this trip will be paid off before I get there.

I have three reservations for a three way split stay. They are all room only as I have APs.

One is for a mod with a AAA rate paid in full.

The other two are at WL and BWI and these are not paid in full since I'm waiting to see if AP rates come out before I pay them off, as I'd rather have the final price and not have to deal with refunds from CRO.

The guy I spoke to told me the same per night rates I already had and told me that my paid in full, room only, would not be affected at all. He said that was paid in full and thus grandfathered in.

He said that the rates had already all been changed in the system and did not know why mine had not changed. :confused3

This contradicts some of what I've read here. I'm really confused. Was he just wrong?

I believe that the resort or room tax and/or the general sales tax (two separate taxes in Florida) would be recomputed at check out time and you would pay the difference. The latest tax increase is about one percent of the room rate.

Also the All Stars have a different tax rate from the other Disney resorts because they are in the next county where the tax differs.

So there is no way for me to find out what my per night room rate would be, or to pay it off before I go? I'm a little upset that the CM just told me I was all set... :guilty:

Your room rate not counting the tax stays the same. I don't remember what the tax rates are for today. Even if you did compute the tax rates for tomorrow, there could be another tax increase by the time you get there.

Same deal when you buy something at a store. In Massachusetts there is a sales tax "holiday" for today (Aug. 12) and tomorrow on most small and medium ticket (under $2500.) purchases so if you shopped then, the final amount you pay would be about 5% less.

I hope Sue Ellen does not mind me quoting her from another tax thread. I think she just explained it so well. :thumbsup2
You will not pay an increase if your PACKAGE reservation was already paid in full and you make no changes to it. If you make changes, or if your reservation was NOT paid in full (packages) then the 1% increase will be added to your package total. If you have a room only reservation the increase will be added and will be paid at check in.

Don't mind you quoting me at all and I was just about to post as well on this...

Your room rate has not changed, but your tax rate has. So when you check in at the resort, even if you have paid in full prior to your arrival, you will have to pay that additional 1% tax increase. So if you want to know how much more you will have to pay, take your nightly room rate and figure 1% of that and you will have your additional cost.

The CM you spoke with was incorrect to advise you that you would be "grandfathered" in since the reservation was paid in full. That only applies to packages that were paid in full at the time of the change, because packages are pre-paid with the taxes calculated into your final balance. Those that are paid in full at the time the new taxes are programmed into Disney's package booking system do not incur the increase in the tax as long as changes are not made, but as soon as that package is opened and changed the taxes go to the current rate.

Taxes are calculated differently on room reservations. Any room only reservation is subject to the current taxes at the time of check in at the resort, and all resort taxes are actually calculated at the resort when you check in and added to your room cost at that time (so your billing statement when you check out will reflect your nightly rate, and then have the taxes broken down below it as well to show the total cost for each night.)

I hope this helps explain that a little for you.

So, we have a package MYW w/dining at the Pop for 6 nights the end of September. The package is paid in full. BUT DH and I Have park tickets left over from a previous trip. So, when we get there we have to upgrade our grandsons 1 day tickets (included in the package) to 5 day tickets. Will we have to pay the additional room tax as well as the increase in ticket prices? It sure isn't a deal breaker but I'm curious as I try to keep track of each penny so that we can save for the next trip.
