Hello all,
Well after officially retiring from the DIS several weeks ago I am back.
As ever with me it’s a long winded story…..I initially left as many of you will know because of health problems Joshua suffered on our flight last August – this meant a return to Florida seemed impossible.
Hence I guess I just lost that buzz of logging on to the Trip Planning Forum as we were about to cancel this year’s July holiday, there were other minor reasons too but this was the main one.
Apologies if anyone was wondering where I was - didn't seem right posting a 'I am leaving' type thread as I am not one for normally making a fuss.
I have been busy doing other things, new car on the way next Month, have been playing a bit of online virtual pool and naturally been busy at work plus looking after Josh too, have also been playing more snooker – I am a fairly decent player and used to play in a couple of leagues.
The pool thing was going really well, I found it relaxing and was having a lot of success too – however, it went pear shaped recently when I started for no reason getting terrible verbal abuse from people….I guess then it made me realise that the DIS was a much more friendly place to socialise etc
In addition we did not actually cancel the holiday after all, and decided to move it till March next year, when the weather will suit us a bit more.
We have looked at ways of dealing with the problems of the long flight, bearing in mind Josh is Autistic and unable to talk, plus the problem we had with his Epilepsy brought on by extreme tiredness on the flight last year(the first problem we have had for over 3 years).
The drug he takes to control this is given twice a day, however we feel by taking the second dose earlier we can hopefully avoid a re-occurrence.
We have also decided to fly PE both ways too, the extra comfort should help us a lot plus the vital factor of at least an extra hour in bed before we set off – flying PE means we can arrive at the airport later. A new Portable DVD player with 9 hours of battery life is coming with us too.
We were actually a bit crafty, by going on the 14th March 2008 we actually saved £300 each , as the prices go up on the 15th.
No real plans on accommodation yet, first night will definitely be at the Hyatt Airport hotel with possibly a few nights at Beach Club villas, a few days in Miami/Fort Lauderdale and a Kissimmee villa too.
I would just like to say special thanks to – Carolfoy, Florida Sun, Kristieuk, Isla Bonita, Mrs Doubtfire, julieannbabe, pootle, paul sheps, acr4bbe but not least pesky Pokemon_master for all the pm’s whilst I have been ‘away’.
Hopefully this will be the last time I need to write a speech like this again.
NB - if the 'tag fairy' could return my tag to the orange colour I would be grateful.
