Hope all of you other Buffalo area DISers are hanging in there! We finally got our power back last night after 6 long days of living like pioneers. ;)

This place is truly a disaster area. Many of our beautiful old stately trees are gone now. Sad, because Buffalo is a city rich in history - and the trees themselves are pretty darned historical.

But all in all, we fared well. DH drove to Pittsburgh to buy generators for us and some friends - couldn't find them anywhere else in the state or Canada. At least there, he didn't get price gouged. :)

Had a little carbon monoxide scare when our neighbor's generator fumes seeped in through our bedroom window - the dope put it practically right under our window. Had CO readings of 350 and a headache to end all headaches. Thankfully, opening the windows cleared it up quickly. The CO, not my headache - that thing lasted and lasted.

So, if you were planning a trip to our fair city - bring a truck with you - you can have all the free firewood you can handle. :teeth:

Welcome back. Glad you are ok. Looking for a generator -- sounds like what Floridians go through scrambling for one after a hurricane. I hope things get back to normal quickly.

Glad to hear all is well.

70% of people living in the city of Buffalo lost their power! We were so blessed to be part of the 30% that didn't. But we've had plenty of company for the past few days.

Did you hear the bad rap FEMA is getting for how they're dealing with our situation? Echoes of Katrina.

I'm off of work all week due to the storm so I'm widdling my time away on the DIS.

Joy, how lucky you were! I didn't know anyone personally who had power all along, and now I do! :teeth:

Yes, this FEMA thing is starting to get ugly. You would think after Katrina, they would have worked the bugs out - but I can see they haven't changed much at all.

Welcome back Patti sorry you were without power for so long. I posted my pictures of my back yard after the storm. Considering how bad we got it I was one of the lucky ones to get my power back on Sat. Guess it pays to be on the same street and the town hall and police department. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1252746

Yes you are lucky all you got was a headache. Those generators already took some lives this week. This was a storm of all storms hopefully that is our only bad one for the year. Our poor trees!!!!!

Glad to see you back. I'll save my FEMA comments for another time.

Sorry to hear about the old trees. What a terrible loss for your city.

Anyway, I'm happy to hear you and yours made it through that terrible storm OK. :thumbsup2

Wow!! I had no idea any of you were from there. Glad power is back for you GH and the rest of you faried well. Stay safe Disers :grouphug:

Welcome back Patti and others from the Buffalo area. I'm glad you're all doing ok.

My Football team was supposed to go up there Friday to play Erie CC in Orchard Park on Saturday...when I woke up to the news of that snowstorm, I knew we wouldn't be going and would have to cancel everything.

Big WOW when I saw those pictures. I've been in snowstorms before, but WOW!!!!! I'm glad everyone is getting their power back on and back to as normal as normal can be.

JoyG - I didn't even realize you were from the Buffalo area. Another WNYer here.

We were without power for about 60 hours. The worst part was when the sun went down & all was dark in the house. It's was so depressing.

poochie - great pics. They really tell the "story" of this storn. So destructive.

I sure hope power is restored to everyone very soon.

Have to add - we were commiserating at my house with the neighbors on Friday evening & I had about 20-25 scented candles burning. The neighbors son came out with the comment, "Wow, you could really mask a fart quite well right now!!!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: It kind of made light of the whole situation at that point.
