Thank you Sherry, for the very nice reception of my tiny tale. I appreciate it.
The material just comes into my head, and I roll with it.
I like the Planet of the Apes too. However, the quote " I am not an animal" is in reference to Joseph Carey Merrick, he lived and died in 19th century England.
It was in David Lynch's film, "The Elephant Man" that his (Joseph Carey Merrick's character) makes that statement in one of the scenes. Now if he (JCM) had actually made that statement in real life, I cannot say for certain. However, it is very possible that he had. For he had been treated like an animal, for many years, until being rescued by the British physician, a one Dr. Frederick Treves that took him in,treated him as best as possible, and was instrumental to bringing some semblance of normalcy to Joseph's life.
In 1979 it had been suggested that Joseph Merrick had Proteus syndrome or "Elephant Man's Disease", which causes abnormal, unchecked growth of bones, skin, and other systems.
My reference in my tiny tale, is by no means meant as an affront to Joseph Carey Merrick. For I feel so very sorry for him. So many years, of being misunderstood, abused, and treated like a circus freak. That was all just so wrong, so unjust.
