I'm Back! I'm Back! I'm Back!

Sherry,

~~~ ~~~ WELCOME BACK! ~~~ ~~~
It sounds like you and your friends did have a really wonderful time! I am glad to read that. For sometimes, no matter how much one attempts to plan anything, things might not always go so smoothly.
I hope that all of your photographs will turn out, and very nicely at that.
I like the idea of various nice scents wafting across one's nose. I might just visit IASW, next trip. The last time that I had done so, was many years ago. I have not gone on it since, because the theme music can become a bit much sometimes to hear. Maybe I save that ride for the last day? he he!
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Merry Christmas!~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happy Hanukkah! ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aww, Sherry. I didn't mean long in a bad way, I'm sorry ! :goodvibes I can't wait for it :)
I'm glad you liked the musical. I'm not sure if you had the same Jafar as I did, but the guy who did play him when I went was AWESOME. But then again, I did musical theater for 4 years so I'm a little biased when it comes to musicals. I LOVE 'EM.
You have so much work to do with the holidays and developing/scanning film. Take your time !
Oh, don't worry, I knew what you meant about the long TR!:goodvibes I knew you didn't mean anything negative by it. My TR seemed long to me too! And that is whan I was realizing that it is much better to do the TR's and include the pictures up front, rather than add them later as I did, because it does help break up the text and hold one's interest throughout! I was trying to use up the rest of this pesky 35 mm film I had for a long time before I retire that camera forever (which died in the rain, anyway!), so I don't know how those pictures will come out, but it seemed like I took a lot of them! When I get those developed as well as my other 'avant garde' black and white shots, I will get a CD with them, so at least I won't have to worry about scanning. I can just save them from the CD to my computer and then do the Photobucket process. I want to get a move on with the TR, though, while it is all still fresh in my memory! And I have to catch any PhotoPass pictures that may be missing while I can still recall the details of when and where they were taken to be able to identify them to a PP person if need be!
The Jafar we saw in the musical was an African-American gentleman. He was good too! I would imagine that the Genie's material changes as current events happen, too. My friend was noticing that Abu the monkey was missing. Where was he? Why did they leave him out? Anyway, I like Aladdin and probably would see it again whenever I happen to be at DCA next, but I am curious to see what kind of Toy Story musical they come up with. I don't know if they can top the Genie's material!
Sherry,
Yes, you're right, the song in IASW can get very irritating!:goodvibes Of course, during the holiday version they also sing "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls" so it kind of breaks up the annoying IASW song! And the smells are a nice touch! Plus, it is so pretty to look at inside of the ride and outside of the building. I like how DLR is starting to put more aromas into their rides/attractions now. That is a cool touch.
We did have a pretty wonderful time overall. There were a couple of things I didn't get to do that I would have liked to, but it was mainly just that we ran out of time. It couldn't really be helped. Usually, I feel like I have to give up certain things because other people don't want to do them and we waste a lot of time sitting while we could be doing something. We didn't do that this time, and I pretty much got to do what I wanted to do minus a small handful of things that were not THAT important. I made sure to hit a couple of goals, whether I was alone or with friends. For example, we missed the carolers on the first night we were there. So on Sunday night, when I was by myself, I made a point of going to the GCH lobby and catching the carolers. When my friends were with me, we were not able to find a PhotoPass photographer by the Castle at night. Bad timing. So when I was alone, I marched over to the Castle and found a PP photographer and had my picture taken. Same thing with the beautiful IASW facade - we couldn't get over to IASW on Saturday night to see the lights because all routes were either blocked off for the parade or they were jam packed with people. So, on Sunday night, when I was by myself, I took the long way to Fantasyland, going through Tomorrowland and all the way around, to get to IASW - just so I could find a PhotoPass photographer and have my picture taken! I was bound and determined to get these little goals accomplished with or without companions! When I was with my friends, we didn't have time to squeeze in a meal at Taste Pilots Grill, which I wanted to try. So yesterday, before we went home, I went to TPG by myself and ate a yummy BBQ chicken sandwich and those delicious fries! Plus, we used the MM option on Saturday and rode a lot of those Fantasyland rides we normally skip. I wanted to look in the China Closet and World of Disney, so I did that when I was by myself!
So I may not have gotten EVERYTHING I planned on my list accomplished, but I got a lot of it done, so it was more satisfying and rewarding all the way around! And our table at Wine Country Trattoria was great, so we had a prime view of the Pixar Play Parade, which was an added bonus.:thumbsup2
Oh I knowwww !!!
Sorry Sherry to hijack your thread, buttttttttt..
Kerri you guys driving ?
Worried about I-5 by then ?
Yes, we are driving. Not too worried about I5 but a little bit. The Grapevine is what worries us. Jan 08 we drove to DL twice though and both times it was no problem at all. They normally have it open during the day, if anything they have CHP doing traffic breaks and making sure people aren't flying down the hill, if it's closed it usually at night (after dark) and it's snowing so the roads are slick and icy. We are leaving on Saturday morning so we will hit the Grapevine in the daylight. At least that's the current plan. Down to 12 days now...... :goodvibes :rotfl:
Sherry, not getting everything done just means you have a reason to come back when we are there. LOL Can you tell I really want you to get there??
I'll see what smells I can smells on those rides........lol
Remember that blasted valley fog too. That ugly stuff. But most of all have blast.
Sorry for the interuption. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.
I'm keeping a level head right now, but I'm slightly freaking out because I don't want anything to go wrong on our trip. Sigh. We'll just have to wait, right Kerri ? I can't believe our trip is coming up. Its so crazy !
Oh and I'm totally going to pay attention to the ginger smell when the ride hits Harryhausen's on Monster's Inc. I'm TOTALLY stoked for that, but I'm sure you're not surprised about that Sherry ;)
As I mentioned in the dining thread I thought of you many times on my trip! Each time I saw anything gingerbread men or smelled it or saw those cookies lol I am glad you had a good time and made it home safely. I like long TR's...the longer and more detailed the better! :)
Abu is currently under contract negotiations, and per advice from his long time entertainment attorney, he cannot appear in any of the shows, until his contract is settled. So when everything is said and done, and to his (Abu's) liking, then he shall return to the show, hopefully.
An inside source was good enough to let me know the above, and that Abu is very sorry for not being able to appear in his show. That is, the show. Abu is very dedicated to it. It is like his second home.
It was heard stated by Abu at a recent private party, in the Hollywood Hills, after one too many bananna shooters. "I am not an animal!" Then after he was politely reminded of the simple fact that he actually is a monkey, he then mooned the entire party (TMZ photos will soon be published) then he emphaticly stated "So what!" "What is your point?" He then continued to pontificate..."I am sick to death of working for peanuts! I can see how well the show does! And it is mainly because of me! I tell you! Me,me me!" then he pulled his Versace dressy casual silk pants back up, and swung from the chandelier. It is a good thing that he was the host of this party, and that it took place at his recently redecorated estate. Otherwise, there is no telling what may have happened.
Yup, just play it by ear and hope we are good to go. :) That's the only place we will need to worry. I think Micah and I are going to take the minivan, even tho it's just us, that way we will have chains in case we need them. LOL We don't think we wil need them but it's better to safe.....
I'm so excited, I can't wait to BE there!!!!! :)
YAY Gisele is back!!!!
Hey guys! I finally have time to have some internet access at the hotel - here we are celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary sitting at the GCH in our hotel room with 2 sleeping children hanging out on separate laptops doing our own thing quietly! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
We got offered a bounceback with our checkout envelope under the door this morning - to stay one more night and check out tomorrow for only $150. Talk about cheap!
We are really looking forward to meeting up with your, Kerri, Jazz, and the crew on Jan 3. In fact - we could totally turn this thread into the "what are we going to do" thread!
We had a lot of fun this week. Candy Canes and chatting with Guy, riding in the nose of Monorail Blue and hearing that Monorail Orange is in the stable and ready to go soon, watching my kids enjoy the holiday stuff, walking on to almost all attractions in the rain, buying Christmas stuff at 505 off, seeing all the other stuff at 40% off, talking to a Character Lead about the new Celebration parade details that she knew, doing the Holiday scavenger hunt for GCH guests, Having an upgrade to a GRR view room and then getting the bounceback to a standard room right on the lobby atrium, you name it. lots of fun.
What started out with my oldest puking in our bed on Sunday night, became a really magical trip!
How cool is that offer ? ! ? !
I'm so glad you guys are having a great time Nancy :)
OH and I'm excited to see you all too :) WOO !
I tell you - I'm pooped and almost ready to pass out!!! The kids are alseep in one bed, we did ELP tonight and then they crashed. I've been trying to catch up on my DIS and wanting to post up some of the fun we had, but it's pretty overwhelming of a thought. I can't wait to actually talk to you guys in person - I just can't type enough - no finger stamina - to say what I'd love to say - writing trip reports isn't my thing anymore - had to do it for legal documents for too long!!!!!
All I can say is the candy canes rock - they are huge and absolutely beautiful. Guy Fieri is a nice guy. His life really took off with winning Food Network Star!!!! I hate that we missed Sherry - she would have loved sitting in the candy cane line.
It stinks that I missed our BB reservation, as I wanted to do a review of it for my podcast team correspondent audition for Pete and them. I was going to call it BB - Magic or Hype?!?! , since we had a bad experience with service and food quality after they reopened from the rehab. Maybe next time. Maybe we could all go and then I could report on it.
Oh wow Nancy!!! That's a GREAT offer!!!!!! I hope you can take it!!
Sorry about DD puking in your bed...ewww!!!!! But I'm really glad the rest of your trip has been so much fun and so very magical!!!
I can't wait to meet you but the 3rd is the day we are driving so I won't be able to do lunch. Maybe dinner.....but the 4th would be a GREAT day because we will be in the parks for lunch that day. :) We will get it figured out though!
Hey Sherry! I'm out of town for Christmas so I haven't had too much time to see what's happening on the DISboards but I saw your thread so I had to stop and see how your trip went. Glad you had a great time! :goodvibes Sounds like you were able to a lot of things you wanted to do and good job dodging the Disney Christmas merchandise snowball! :thumbsup2
Oh and interesting hearing about Guy Fieri being down there because he lives in the town that i grew up in, and am currently visiting. He has 2 restaurants here in town and we went to one the other night called Tex Wasabis. They have sushi and BBQ (i know, strange combo) and they also have a variety of what they call Gringo Sushi which is chicken, pork or beef combined with things like french fries, avacado, sauces etc and then wrapped in rice and rice paper (instead of seaweed). Very good.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi! Hope everyone has a great Christmas and I'll be checking in when I can.
Sherry, can't wait to see your next trip report!
We LOVE Tex Wasabi's!!!! We don't eat there much because it's $$$$ and it's in Sacramento so it's a bit of a drive but we do love it!! We have a friend who always has her birthday dinner there. :) Wait, are you up here for Christmas?
Have fun and Merry Christmas!!!
Whew! Another hectic day! A chunk of the day has been spent editing all the PhotoPass pictures and tryign to get to the bottom of the missing 'dueling with Captain Hook' pictures. I am all ready to order my CD, except I have to wait to see if they can find my lost Hook pictures. Even if the Hook overlay doesn't appear in the shot, I would at least want the picture of me looking ridiculous, posing with the plastic sword! Anyway...
Sherry, not getting everything done just means you have a reason to come back when we are there. LOL Can you tell I really want you to get there??...I'll see what smells I can smells on those rides........lol
Oh, you're so sweet, Kerri!:goodvibes I HOPE I can get there to meet up with everyone! I am seriously going to try. And it is the 4th that's the best day for everybody, right? Yes, there are still a few things I didn't get done, so you are right - that would be a perfect opportunity to do them!
...Oh and I'm totally going to pay attention to the ginger smell when the ride hits Harryhausen's on Monster's Inc. I'm TOTALLY stoked for that, but I'm sure you're not surprised about that Sherry ;)
I would be surprised if you were NOT stoked about going on Monsters, Inc.!!:goodvibes
As I mentioned in the dining thread I thought of you many times on my trip! Each time I saw anything gingerbread men or smelled it or saw those cookies lol I am glad you had a good time and made it home safely. I like long TR's...the longer and more detailed the better! :)
I saw your post in the dining thread, Krissy! I got a good chuckle out of it. I am glad I was thought of on your trip! You were probably thinking, "Why does she keep popping into my head? Why won't she go away?!!":rotfl: I never saw any gingerbread men without the ears, though I hear there are some sold somewhere in DLR. I only saw the ones with ears, and, as previously stated, I was surprised how hearty and heavy they are! Thank goodness they didn't come out with any NEW gingerbread Mickey souvenir items or I would have been in trouble!:lmao: I also saw in your Dining post about the walk-ups at Blue Bayou - you are 100% correct. That NEVER happens. In fact, when I made my PS's for the October trip, the CM on the phone told me that BB is the only restaurant where PS's are required now, and "no walk-ups are accepted." So the fact that they ARE now taking them - or at least they did on that day you witnessed it - is a sure sign of bookings being down. Places like BB and the character meals are probably taking the biggest hits because those are the most expensive places to eat. That has to be why Goofy's did not raise its prices to the peak season rates and kept them as they were in the off-peak season.
Oh, don't you worry - my TR will likely be long and detailed - even with pictures! I just hope to get the pictures in there up front this time rather than insert them later like last time. It helps to have things right away!
Abu is currently under contract negotiations, and per advice from his long time entertainment attorney, he cannot appear in any of the shows, until his contract is settled. Oh my goodness! I laughed out loud, Gisele! That is TOO funny! Where do you come up with this stuff?:lmao: I love the Planet of the Apes reference too (that is where the "I am not an animal" comes from, right, or am I completely off my rocker?!)! Very clever! And now I know exactly why Abu was not in the Aladdin show (which, by the way, I am glad we saw, as it sounds like it is taking a break soon!)! Abu is a diva!
We got offered a bounceback with our checkout envelope under the door this morning - to stay one more night and check out tomorrow for only $150. Talk about cheap!...We had a lot of fun this week. I was hoping for an upgrade at PPH OR a bounceback. I got neither. From what I had heard about the hotel bookings being down, I thought FOR SURE they would have offered me another night's stay at a low price, and this time I could have accepted it...but they didn't!:mad: I could have used that day to do some extra things, but as it happened, I had to leave early on Monday. Anyway, $150 for a 'bonus' ngiht is INSANE for the GCH! That is a crazy low price! I don't blame you for taking it. I would have even taken the PPH for that rate!...And what is this about a holiday scavenger hunt for the GCH guests? What is that all about? Do they do that every year? I don't recall hearing of this last year in December.
All I can say is the candy canes rock - they are huge and absolutely beautiful. Guy Fieri is a nice guy. His life really took off with winning Food Network Star!!!! I hate that we missed Sherry - she would have loved sitting in the candy cane line.
I know, I am so sorry I missed you at DLR, Nancy! You can blame it on my friend for throwing me all off course by showing up extra early on Friday without warning me first! I just plain forgot to save your number into my phone! I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off - I am surprised I remembered to bring my suitcase! And then I had to leave early on Monday (before noon). I am HOPING to go when you and Kerri and Jasmine go, but I can't say for sure yet. t is probably going to have to be a relatively last-minute decision for me.
I would have liked to stand in the candy cane line just to see what they were doing in there, but I would have left the buying of the canes to other folks who really wanted them. I really like Guy Fieri. He has become a major star on the Food Network - he is the only one who has won that Next Food Network Star contest and come out of it with MANY shows on that channel. He is really popular. Every time I turn around, he has another show! He has become like a male Rachael Ray! Guy seems like he would be down to earth and approachable. I hate that we have to wait almost ONE YEAR for his DLR Holiday Food special to air on the Food Network!
Hey Sherry! I'm out of town for Christmas so I haven't had too much time to see what's happening on the DISboards but I saw your thread so I had to stop and see how your trip went. Glad you had a great time! :goodvibes Sounds like you were able to a lot of things you wanted to do and good job dodging the Disney Christmas merchandise snowball! :thumbsup2 ...Oh and interesting hearing about Guy Fieri being down there because he lives in the town that i grew up in, and am currently visiting. Yes, I successfully avoided the Great Snowball in terms of merchandise. I was tempted by the Tinkerbell posing with the peppermint candy ornaments, but not tempted enough!:thumbsup2 I went a little crazy with the PhotoPass pictures and other pictures, though, if that counts as a Snowball Effect! And while I did not count them, I saw a LOT of those 700 Christmas trees! They were everywhere, tucked into all kinds of corners and down hallways and they came in all sizes. Now the 700 number makes sense to me! At first, I couldn't conceive of where DLR could fit all those trees. It made me sad to see Dept. 56 so nicely decorated with all of their trees because they are going to be closing that DTD location soon and I think that is a big mistake! I really think they belong in DTD!
The other restaurant that Guy Fieri has is called Johnny Garlic's, right? I love garlic, so that sounds like my kind of place!:thumbsup2
Oh, and one other thing I noticed - the hidden Mickey snowdrift has returned to the Haunted Mansion Holiday ride.:yay: It was there last year in December, then it was NOT there during this past Halloween season, but I guess they brought it out during the Christmas season this year. It basically looks like a Mickey-shaped, white fluffy bath rug or cotton mass, but it is in the banquet/ballroom scene with the gingerbread coffin. The hidden Mickey snowdrift is on the floor, over to the right, basically against the back wall. Look for it!
Thank you Sherry, for the very nice reception of my tiny tale. I appreciate it.
The material just comes into my head, and I roll with it.
I like the Planet of the Apes too. However, the quote " I am not an animal" is in reference to Joseph Carey Merrick, he lived and died in 19th century England.
It was in David Lynch's film, "The Elephant Man" that his (Joseph Carey Merrick's character) makes that statement in one of the scenes. Now if he (JCM) had actually made that statement in real life, I cannot say for certain. However, it is very possible that he had. For he had been treated like an animal, for many years, until being rescued by the British physician, a one Dr. Frederick Treves that took him in,treated him as best as possible, and was instrumental to bringing some semblance of normalcy to Joseph's life.
In 1979 it had been suggested that Joseph Merrick had Proteus syndrome or "Elephant Man's Disease", which causes abnormal, unchecked growth of bones, skin, and other systems.
My reference in my tiny tale, is by no means meant as an affront to Joseph Carey Merrick. For I feel so very sorry for him. So many years, of being misunderstood, abused, and treated like a circus freak. That was all just so wrong, so unjust.
If one would like to read more about Joseph Carey Merrick click here:
"I am not an Elephant! I am not an animal! I am a human being! I am a man!" - - - -
by Joseph Merrick
In David Lynch's film, this is the exact quote that is referenced. I simply abridged it, for my tiny tale, for artistic reasons.
SherrySherrySherry! I've just remembered something. You know how you had the haunted dresser drawers? We had one too. Every Single Time I walked past it, it had opened. Ack! I watched it, too. Closed it. Wait. Slooooooowly opened.
I think maybe PPH needs some little shims so their drawers would stop opening!
re: ginger smell...it's the smell of pickled ginger like you get, of course, at a sushi place, not ginger like gingerbread men. Figured I really should be clear, just in case, since there's discussion of gingerbread cookies!
Gisele, if you liked that movie, you should find a copy of the play in which David Bowie played Merrick without makeup or prostheses. The still pictures you can find of it don't look like anything, but I remember watching it on TV and it was *amazing*.
