Yes it was a wonderful trip, ask my feet they'll tell you how much we walked.

Beautiful weather every day high 80's, now the problem I'm ready to garden and it freezing. I know this is New England but come-on weather you've got to co-operate. Two days of heavy rain (we did need it) now I need winter clothing. Is that it, a week of spring weather and I missed it.

I did arrive home to find my magnolia and weeping cherry in bloom. Lots of bulbs blooming too. At least some escaped the ravage of the chipmunks and moles which seem to be gone. Funny though I have spring flowers coming up all over my lawn. Guess those rodents replanted a few bulbs.

Back to DC it's been many years since I've visited and was impressed at some of the new monuments. The Korean War Memorial moved me to tears, nineteen larger then life statues (a squard on patrol) along side a polished black granite wall with etchings of over 2,400 veterans. They call this the "Forgotten War" after seeing it you can never forget the images.

We did get a rubbing of DH cousin from the Vietnam Momorial and I will be doing a double page lay-out in my scrapbook on him.

Another moving Momorial was the Holocaust Museum. It's 2 halls, One of Witness, to preserve the memory of those who died, and One of Remembrance with it's eternal flame, to pay homage to the victims. Forces you to confront the horror of the Holocaust, and leaves you wondering "How this could happen and Why?" We had lunch at it's restaurant which is seperate from the museum and we had to go through metal detectors to eat here. Moved me that even in today's world the Jewish Race is still singled out with hatred. To have a quick sandwich you need to go through security.

The "4" outdoor open-air rooms of FDR Memorial were also impressive.

No George, did visit his home though.

Welcome back Mamu  Glad you had a good trip. The weather down in DC sounds like it was beautiful. Did you get to see any cherry blossoms? My sister lives down there and I have yet to time my visits to see them. I understand they're spectacular.
What a surprise to have bulbs popping up in the lawn. Your critters are redecorating your garden. While Mamu's away the mice will play :rotfl:

:wave2: Welcome back. Sounds like your plants are starting to really know that spring is coming.

Mamu - Glad you have a wonderful visit to our Nation's Capital! I'm going there next month. Can I ask, did you have to get in touch with your congressperson ahead of time to get tickets to the White House? I really would like to go there but I think I should have contacted Congressperson months ago for tickets.

Hope the weather has warmed up some in New England since your return and you are out there doing your stuff. Did you ever spruce up that section you unveiled when you took those two big trees down last year?

Gosh, I miss this forum. The warm day this past weekend had me outside messing around and thinking about you guys. So many new people here is great and DixieDee is back. But where is Snowwark???

Hope everyone is well and busy gardening.

BTW - Remember that garden bus? Wait, let me see if I can ressurect that thread....
