I got called "Emo" because i was talking about how i liked Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine! It was by a couple of kids two years below me! How immature! And I hate people who stereotype it isn't fair! And just because i hang with "Goths" and "Emos" doesn't mean I am one right?! To be honest I don't see them as "Goths" or "Emos" etc I just see them as my friends! It isn't fair how people can't go through life without being called one steryotype or another. Who agrees?

Eh, that's life. You win some and you lose some, you can't please everyone. Trust me, you're not the only one who's "fake" or "emo". I'm "fake" because my music taste ranges from Nada Surf to Akon to Blink 182.

Don't sweat it. They won't matter in 10 years.

Psshh.
They are pretty messed in the head for stereotyping youu like that.
My school is pretty much the same.
:confused3
But i dont think there is anything you do..
:[
Sorryy.
Burr if you are an emo.. then i think i am too.
I like all the music you are into :/

x3

ITA people stereotype me because i love the color black and I love all the kind of stuff goths like and I hate how people thinks goths just are like morbid and gloomy when they aren't! Just ignore those people. Hang out with your friends and don't worry about what other people say.

Some people are just silly stereotyping people, I get it all the time ("Goth", "Greebo", "Emo", "Slit your wrists" etc.). The people that feel the need to stereotype won't get to far in life if they can't accept people for who they are. My music taste is extremely varied (classical to pop to metal to industrial) so people can mock me alot for that, but really the only persons comments who matter should be your own :).

The original Goth scene from the late 70's/early 80's were just interested in showing the darker side of life, the black clothing was a stand against the bright new wave style. Alot of the people who call people "Goth" these days think of stuff like Manson (who isn't Goth, even he has stated so, I'm not a fan of him in truth though).

That is so stupid that they would say something like that.

Just ignore them.

ugh.
i get called emo, alot.
And im REALLY not.
Just because of the music i listen to sorta and how i dress.

But just dont let it get to you. keep liking the stuff you do. who seriously cares?

I don't know, nobody really got called stereotypes at my school in that sense. I mean, we had the bad-natured girl names (I don't need to list them), and jerks and whatever, but no "omgz she's so emoz" or whatever. I dunno, I rarely listened to bands that anyone knew so they didn't know how to stereotype me so maybe that's why I didn't hear any of it.

Those bands aren't even emo.
Try the delicious bands such as Moss Icon, Evergreen, Clikatat Ikatowi, or Indian Summer. Or for harder emo, try Heroin, Swing Kids, or Second Story Window (<3 <3 <3).

...I also don't think you can dress "emo"tionally.

Having a variety of tastes in music is NOT a bad thing, and don't let anyone get you down by what music you listen to. The music you listen to has a lot to do with what kind of person you are and never let stupid immature youngins tell you who you are. I mean, I listen to EVERYTHING from mainstream like all time low (pop-punk) and akon (hip-hop) all the way to extremely indie bands like Bunny Rabbit (electrotrash) and Best Fwends (electro-pop). I listen to screamo, post-emo indie rock, emo, hardcore, oldies, rap, hip-hop, pop-punk...pretty much anything that has a nice beat or good lyrics.

So basically tell 'em to shove it since they don't know what they're talking about.

Trivium & Bullet for my Valentine are awesome bands (I have seen them both in concert :teeth:).

They are couple of dumb kids, who obviously have no taste in music. Who cares what they think.

Who cares what they think there 2 years younger you shoulda just laughed at them when they said it.

I agree with you, looks and musical taste shouldn't be seen as a threat as everyone is different. If everyone I knew listened to the same music it would be quite boring (though alot of my friends do share a few musical tastes with me).

@ohdisco:
Very true indeed, a good variety of different music is great as it makes you more open to things and also you can get a wider view of different opinions from genres. Music is indeed a personal thing, I don't know anyone who'd want to listen to a band and not connect with it.

That about sums it up.

Seriously?
I don't mean to be rude, but get over it.
I've been getting called emo since the fifth grade. These guys just tell me to get over it.
And I did.

But good luck with them.
:)
