From past WDW/DVC trips, I dreaded seeing the credit card bill after we returned home. So, in an effort to spread out my bills for our upcoming trip, I purchased our APs a couple of weeks ago. I paid full price for two adult & 2 child tickets.

Now the DVC discount comes out & I can't use it. There goes a few hundred $$$ I could have saved!

The APs are non-refundable so I can't send them back & the new discount only applies to tickets purchased after January 1, 2005. Maybe I can upgrade to PAPs with the discount.

I really hope the discount is long-term and is still around in 2006 so I can use it.

End of vent.

P & P...you're no idiot. Just some bad luck as many others have reported.

I am hoping that the discount is long-term as well. If they institute it, I think they will have to keep it around if they use it in their sales pitch.

I guess the main thing they will monitor is whether we actually do spend more time in the parks and spend more money. I know that we will.

With any luck, this perk will be around for a long time and missing one year will be insignificant over the remaining years of our contracts. :)

I sure hope so.

P&P don't feel bad. I just renewed mine in October. Now I'm looking forward to next Oct.

Same situation here :( We're going in December and will miss this discount. I really hope they keep it around for us long enough to atleast use it when these AP's expire.

Have a great trip anyway! :)

I don't even call it bad luck, just unfortunate timing.

I am hoping to upgrade two vouchers to a PAP, too. If anyone finds out if this is doable, please let us know.

P&P-- Just wanted to say that the girls in your signature picture are too cute!! Hope it all works out for you with upgrading to the PAPs.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Misery enjoys company.

We're going to have to buy our AP's in mid-December since that's when we need them, so we'll miss out on the discount too. We're hoping to be able to upgrade to the PAP's when we go back in the Spring - here's hoping you can at least do that too.

I did the same thing - just bought my AP at TDS last week for short trip in 2 weeks. I called my guide today and he left me a message saying "according to my sources" and "I hope they're right" that AP vouchers purchased before 1/2/05 will be able to be upgraded to discounted PAPs after 1/2/05. Didn't sound too definite to me, so I called MS - they couldn't say for sure, just "you should be able to", so they connected me to Ticket Services (407)566-4985, prompt#1, prompt,#1,prompt #8 (if anyone wants to double check), where I was told that 'yes', it will be doable!!!:)

She did remind me to take along my receipt with my voucher (and my DVC card and photo ID) to assure that I received the full amount of credit towards the upgrade. It will be worth it to me to use a few days off old passhoppers and then have a PAP for my trips next year for only a few $$ more.

The same thing applies to my family and we plan to up grade in June.

Charlotte who is still thrilled

bjakmom,
Thanks for the info. Maybe we'll try a water park for the first time!

Oh please don't call yourself an idiot! Either that or we are all idiots!

:-) My friend just bought to APs for our trip in 11 days. Rats. And I already had a voucher for my DH to start using, but at least I got a CM discount so it was only $30 more than this new discount.

So the boat you are in is very full indeed!!!!!

Don't feel bad! I am not going to the parks again until next fall (unless DVCitis sets in<g>) and I ordered a pass and received it to stash away. Could have saved a hundred bucks! But, in January, I am going to order 3 more and save $300, so it's not a huge loss. Kind of like a buy 3 get one free deal. Sooner or later you will get some savings, and the annual without a discount is a good deal in itself.

After wading through the ton of posts regarding the new AP discount, I haven't seen a clear answer yet to whether we can upgrade an already active AP to a PAP (after Jan 2).

Timing is everything...we had gone on a trip to WDW in October and decided to take the plunge into an AP for 5 of us. Wish we could have saved the $500, but we are still thrilled to see a discount nonetheless.

Now we're hoping to upgrade to a PAP. I've seen posts regarding upgrading an unactivated AP /voucher, but so far I haven't seen any confirmation on whether it can be done with already active AP. I'm going to call my rep on Monday, but thought someone may already have a answer to this. Does anyone know?? Thanks!

you are not an idiot, there was no way you would have known that DVC would finally come out with a great discount.......

enjoy your trip and dont think about it

Have you considered selling the vouchers on ebay for somewhat less than the $100 loss and buying new AP in 2005? That way, you'd be helping someone else out and feel like you're hurting yourself less.
